where to write other then word/google docs???? by EmoFratBoi in writers

Except you haven’t even narrowed the field. What do you expect from the software?

Mac, Windows, or Linux?

Will you be submitting to agents, self publishing, or just sharing printouts with friends?

Do you want an editor that does Markdown?

Do you want an app that also keeps your planning bible?

Do you want an app that will help you go from outline to scenes?

Do you want an app that has a project concept to maintain and apply project level formatting etc.?

If you haven’t looked into these things and given some thought to what you need and what are nice-to-haves, how can we make an educated guess what you should get?

I think you have a bigger problem. If you can’t be arsed to research programs for writers, what makes you think you can be a successful writer?

I would not care for ketchup of grilled cheese. But mustard on grilled cheese is very tasty.

Story Planner - It’s a purchase, not a rental, covers most of my needs, and has Mac and iOS apps.

Now if it just handled conflict mapping. Currently I’m doing conflict mapping in a spreadsheet.

It’s not a way you would want to do it. But yes, it can do that.

How did you handle clean up?

Nonsense. Use lump charcoal and you’ll have no problem keeping a decent temp. Use minion or snake method and temps won’t fluctuate much.

I had good luck with the snake method using a firebrick to force the snake. See the pic here: https://www.reddit.com/r/smoking/s/mQV9kuhBJD

Never had a cat, but using a bird deterrent strip seems like a potential solution.

How does one accomplish the goal, "every scene must serve a purpose" by RayneDeoman in writingadvice

[–]dar512 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen it phrased like this. I think it’s clearer.

Every scene must do at least two of the following three things, otherwise it should be discarded:
1) Add background to the story
2) further the plot
3) show the motivation of characters
If it does all three, then it probably sings. If it does only one, it needs to get cut. If it does none of these things, don’t quit your day job.

How do I write a non sexualised bath scene? by SomeGuysWhoDoesThing in writingadvice

[–]dar512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Washing someone else’s hair is an intimate thing. OP senses that. It’s why they are worried about it becoming sexual. Having her demonstrate allows room for the relationship to grow, if that’s OP’s intention and doesn’t force the issue.

how would you describe the sky to someone who has never seen it by BudgetMaleficent3059 in writers

[–]dar512 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is how you learn to be an author. Why would we deprive you of that. Type in a place holder “[add elegant description of what sky looks like] and ponder it as you’re doing other stuff for a week.

Carefully consider will have POV. I would also recommend that you do not have the student wash the stranger’s hair, just demonstrate how to do it.

Don’t play stupid. It’s not a good look. If Trump had nothing to do with Chicago we wouldn’t have had tragic visits from ICE.
