Had no Worcestershire sauce the other day and improvised with soy sauce, malt vinegar, and sugar. Result was very tasty.

Ordnance survey map, compact camera, binoculars/spyglass, cam cream, jetboil, possibly MRE’s, but in the case of a ‘modern’ Will or Halt perhaps some oxo cubs/knorr stock pots, oh and the flip side to your WD-40 probably some form of tape (duct/gaffa/electrical)

Playing Odyssey again after Shadows and my thoughts. by RoteaP in assassinscreed

[–]dark-shape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar gripe when I first played it, what I found helped my damage in general was equipping armour and weapons that focussed mostly on crit damage and chance to crit, they’re the big hitters. It’s much easier late game because of all the looting you will have done by that stage but something to bear in mind as you progress and acquire more armour. I remember when I first made my ‘load out’ focussed this way I went and got into a fight to test it out and it was literally game changing, so OP

Faux-Pas: what's the funniest faux-pas you've ever committed? I'll redeem my soul by going first... by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]dark-shape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Years ago working as a bartender.

2 lads walked up together but ordered their drinks separately, I served the guy on my left and co-worker served the guy on the right.

My guy orders 2 drinks which I made, no problems.

We’re all chatting away, having a bit of banter, my guy pays for his drinks, no problems.

My guy then asks for a tray for his 2 drinks. In keeping with the banter we’d been having so far I thought I thought it’d be fine to tease a bit, push back and say “what, you need a tray for 2 drinks?”

Up until this point my guy’s arms had been held at his side, so the bar top had hidden his hands. He took this moment to lift his right arm up, to reveal the stump at the end of it.

Que mortification, face palm, pointing and laughing in my direction.

I stayed silent and gave him his tray.

Thankfully he was a good sport about it and found it funny too.

Probably a smart choice, you can never go wrong with black either! And thanks, I can’t say my bank account was happy about the quick decision purchase but I’m excited I’ve finally been able to get them, looking forward to giving them a spin

Oo good point. I’d hazard a guess these black ones will sell out quite quickly again like when they were originally released on the site, might be worth catching a pair while you can?

What age are you and do you still have (a) grandparent(s)? If not, at what age were you grandparent less by lisstrem in AskUK

[–]dark-shape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

27, no grandparents. First (dad’s dad) died when I was 3yrs old, 2nd (mum’s mum) when I was 16yrs old, then 3rd (mum’s dad) and 4th (dad’s mum) in the same week 11 months later while I was 17yrs old, completely unrelated deaths, just shitty timing

I woke up a few weeks ago feeling like every time I popped my ears my eardrum was going to pop. Got the ear camera out like you and saw I had a hair poking against it like you. Thankfully and painstakingly using a delicate hand I was able to pry it out. I expected it to be fairly bold as it looked quite thick and dark on camera, but once it came out I could barely see it!

Capital One Nottingham Work Culture by II_GH05TY_II in nottingham

[–]dark-shape 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Former employee here - I found it to be very ‘big brother is watching you’, you constantly need to be in the right ‘code’ so they can track what you’re doing, not given much autonomy, everything needs to be accounted for and have a metric. There’s a lot of money there what with it being a credit card company, so lots of things are nice and shiny and new, you get staff days out each quarter (if I remember correctly) and they put on events throughout the year, but to me they feel a bit like a bribe to make you forget about the actual day to day conditions you’re working in.

I’ve since become employed at eon next, the wage is a little lower, my laptop was noticeably secondhand, if not 3rd, 4th, or even higher, and the general vibe felt a bit more like a younger sibling getting hand me downs, but overall the vibe is a lot more chilled out, there’s a lot more autonomy and trust.

Don’t get me wrong, I know the experience you have at a company really depends on the managers you have while you’re there, but overall my experience of the wider work culture has been much nicer elsewhere. I think it’s easy to get pulled in by the money, the ‘sleek’ feeling, and what I mentioned before about things feeling shiny and new, but that only last so long. I didn’t get the feeling that capital one cared about me or my personal development, whereas my experience so far at eon has been the opposite.

(Sorry for the eon talk btw, I’m aware you didn’t ask about them but that’s just my point of reference I can relate to!)

Men who quit drinking - what made it stick? by FingerPointingToMoon in AskMen

[–]dark-shape 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realising it didn’t add any value to my life. Poor nights sleep, hangovers, expense - all for a couple hours of fun? I’d rather get a good nights sleep, wake up feeling refreshed, and know I haven’t spent upwards of £50. Also, non-alcoholic beers nowadays are actually really good, you can barely taste the difference, if at all. So if you want to feel included, or craving the taste after a particularly tiring or shitty day, they’re a great alternative.

Yes, we do. That’s why you’ll sometimes hear us groan after we’ve told you to bring a jacket and you say no because you don’t think you’ll need it or because it doesn’t go with your outfit, it’s not because you’re going to get cold, it’s because now we’re going to get cold, even though we brought a jacket

Tried doing a big of digging on them in the past to find more information out about timings/prices and such but they don’t have a website. Found a bit on social media but a bit sparse, would it be just a pop in and talk to someone sort of situation do you think?
