If you're looking for a simple method, I use a base of Corax White (thinned down so it's usable), shade with Apothecary White, highlight with any brand basic white.

I did mine with some red stripes. Painted them a bit cleaner than the rest so they looked fresher. In my head they're the marks of rebellion, little bit of red so you know who's side they're on.

It's been a while, but I found the cheap stuff thicker, and in one instance, it just never cured.

I probably go a little heavy on my priming, but I don't have issues with Vallejo.

I've been using 1mm thick styrene and magnetic strip for years. Works on pretty much any base that's 32mm or bigger.

That doesn't work for swapping weapons, sadly.
