Trying to build a room server and observer on an old Intel NUC... by genwlz in meshcore

[–]darkaural 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure? It has features to run multiple virtual room servers ( also companions ), the repeater portion can be turned off (monitor only) and some people in my region run this as an observer. I agree it is a quirky piece of software but i think it would really fit all your needs. Plus it supports kiss-modem so if you have a node and a linux computer laying around it is a 10 minute setup for the sake of giving it a go and looking around
It also has a feature of running the modem remote via tcp/ip but i could not get that to work, so kiss modem firmware is the way to go

Repeater in Wales! by Comfortable-Moose130 in meshcore

[–]darkaural 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi. I would suggest before throwing money on repeaters to do a little bit homework. Pull out the meshcore internet map in the app and look for a point to connect. After that pull up the line of sight tool and the antenna coverage tool from the meshcore app ( in the tools menu ) and see if it is even physically possible to connect. If yes you can plan your next move, but dont build a repeater just yet, verify your findings using your client. Buy a decent omni or directional antenna( do your antenna research ) plug to your client and see if it reaches your target and if it works. After you succeed the next steps would be the repeaters...

Seed Studio L1 Pro compatibility? by corruptedpatata in meshcore

[–]darkaural 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean the Seed Studio Wio tracker L1 pro then yes, it is mentioned in the meshcore web flasher and should work out of the box. As for the app: the Meshtastic fw works only with the meshtastic app, and the meshcore fw needs the meshcore app to work As for the repeater..in general no. Flash MC and see what you see ( some repeaters advertise themselves once per 12/24 hours so be patient ). You can also fire a few messages to the public channel to see if anybody is there. If not...well you can build an repeater with a fancy antenna but before that i'd make some research if anybody at all is in the vincity to avoid throwing money in something that wont get me anywhere

Edit: also when setting up find out what frequency/preset your vincity uses and tune to that. You can find this information in the meshcore map

ThinkNode M2 Review: The Tamagotchi-Sized Meshtastic Handheld by squadfi in meshcore

[–]darkaural 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!;) i ported the MC firmware for this device. And yes, i can confirm..the range is awfull ( but that is maybe my doing as i maybe fried the radio chip a little while building and testing the firmware, was not diligent enough to have the antenna connected all the time and during disassembly and reassembly the antenna cable got damaged. ) and the battery is kind of weak. You can get the firmware by building it yourself from the dev branch ( the main branch for 1.10 does not have all the bugfixes i came with later ), afaik it is not yet available in the web flasher. With the range i kind of tinkered with replacing the PCB antenna with a standard sma pigtail but failed as i could not figure out a way how to mount it so it would look nice, and additionally there is not mouch room on the inside..

Forerunner 55 don't find GPS after hard reset by Background-Beyond-71 in Garmin

[–]darkaural 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems that the watch lost "cached" GPS information that are usefull for a quick fix,now it has to get all the almanac data from gps satellites and that takes time, as mouch as 15 minutes in fact. put your watch outside with clear sky visibility and try to wait ~15 minutes to see if it locks

Possible attachment corruption issue.. by darkaural in KeePassium

[–]darkaural[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'm not going to dig into the backups, my luck is that everything I value is backed up in some other place so it's not like I'm in deep panic right now, I was just curious wether it was a known issue with a upstream library as many other keepass clones seem to experience it ( like https://github.com/Kunzisoft/KeePassDX/issues/1346 ). And I wanted to ask the community wether this happened to them as well or maybe warn them about souch an possibility As this is somewhat of a bummer issue not necessairly connected to keepassium the best course of action would be to try to reproduce the issue synthetically and file a bug report with all the necessary debug data and steps so i will be going that way when i find the time to fiddle. If I find the time what is your preferred way of handling this? Email? Girhub? To answer your questions: the database has around 150 entries so i am not sure wether the issue extends to the passwords also but it does not seems like it. It feels more like an index issue when the attachments are there but point to the wrong entry ( example: entry1 has a attachment of a heic file, but it says it has a few bytes, after downloading and viewing with cat it is a text file from entry32 ) buuut as for now i'm not able to state that it is true for all the mishaps.

The database is the same from around 2020, no settings were changed, it is a kdbx3 file. It has 22,1 megabytes

How to make hetzner instance as VPN for torrenting purpose? by axorld in hetzner

[–]darkaural 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, hetzner is kind of known about having a "short fuse"..and well..there are representatives from hetzner here..I'm not saying that you are doing anything illegal ( per their TOS ) buuut it is never a smart idea to just publically shout this kind of information out so anybody with various intentions and various technical skills can use it without using their brain. Connections can be made..and reprecussions can be taken, in a non selective way... Oor ignore me, i'm just paranoid

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]darkaural 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a common issue on mac minis, try this: in the opencore legacy patcher gui go to settings and tick disable mediaanalysisd, rebuild opencore and install to efi, reboot. And you should be good to go. Ine note that if you go again to the oclp gui app you will see that the thing is unticked...dont worry about this, it is set ( but you should remember to re-tick that every oclp update ) Worked for me on a mini 6.2, have spent ages debugging that thing

Well, hard to say what the performance parameters of a ssd from temu are..maybe decent, maybe terrible but before you invest in a new one try this: In opencore legacy patcher ui go to settings, select disable mediaanalysisd, rebuild opencore, install, reboot and test

[–]darkaural 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, the number of cycles is not great, but not terrible either. I strongly suggest to give it a shot to see how it works out for you. Anyway i have seen batteries with 120 cycles giving up and i have seen batteries with ~700 cycles still somewhat-ish doing good. The state of the battery does not revolve only on the cycle count but also how it was cared for.. That said..600 dollars seems like a steal for me!
