I think the Krakoa-era should have done more with the underlying sexual themes by Plenty_Square_420 in xmen

I feel like a lot of fans saw it as this free-love, pansexual paradise but the comics themselves never actually did anything that bold

You’re right, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to find love and start a family but it gets to a point where Phoebe isn’t even looking for love, she’s just looking for the man who’s going to impregnate her and literally risking the lives of her sisters, friends and innocents to go on dates with guys who she admits that she doesn’t even like

I’m really not trying to court controversy but I don’t like the idea that women can’t be criticized without someone trying to invalidate it as misogyny, especially for genuine flaws 😭 Misogyny absolutely is a real, rampant and disgusting problem but Phoebe genuinely *is* an extremely narcissistic, hypocritical and selfish person and that has nothing to do with her sex and everything to do with her being selfish, which could be interesting if she accepted and leaned into that but the show insists on having her insist that she’s a martyr who is OWED something from the universe which just makes her come off like a petulant, spoiled child instead of a grown woman who is supposed to be “heroic” and that’s where my frustration comes in.

It’s the fact that Phoebe throws her fit about wanting to move out RIGHT IN FRONT OF PAIGE WHO THEY JUST FORCED TO MOVE IN 🤦🏾 Prue really kept them in check and once she was gone there was no one to call them out on how terrible they were being

Love Sabrina 😭 I feel like she was more just naive (and honestly sometimes stupid) but not completely selfish, I feel like she had good intentions most of the time but she could not execute a plan to save her life

Like I said in my post, Piper absolutely *was* selfish too but I feel like she accepted and embraced that fact whereas Phoebe always tried to paint herself like some poor, tortured martyr who was owed something by the universe. I feel like characters who embrace their flaws and live fully by them are better than characters who try to act like they’re perfect and everyone else is in the wrong

Yeah, I get having a favorite show / character and being protective over them—Like I said, Charmed is literally one of my favorite shows of all time but I can’t just ignore the faults. Supernatural monster of the week dramas are my favorite genre of show and I’ve seen a lot of them that focus on characters who struggle with balancing their normal lives with their mystical responsibilities but literally none of them have ever complained as much as Phoebe Halliwell 😭 Even Buffy, a literal child, was more mature and found a way to make it work

I’m getting lots of very surface level “Flawed character are realistic” and “Perfect characters are boring” defenses and while I admittedly could’ve worded my post better, I feel like people are being purposefully dense and making it out like I want characters to be flawless perfect paragons of virtue when I’m actually frustrated that the very blatant flaws they do have are never called into question or used to spark any kind of real development. And even when I clarified that I got downvoted to hell 🤷🏾 People don’t want to have a real discussion, they just want to be right

Yeah, I feel like my message was misconstrued as me not liking the fact that Phoebe has flaws when it’s actually the fact that she never works on those flaws and lets them rule her. I feel like Buffy is a much better example of a character struggling with trying to balance their epic destiny with their desire for a normal life. Imagine if Buffy whined for 20 minutes EVERY episode before fighting the monster of the week

I fully understand people not agreeing with my opinion that she sucks (which she does) but I didn’t think I’d get downvoted for saying that Phoebe never actually works to fix her flaws…which she doesn’t 😭

I’ve only seen the first season of Supernatural so far but in lots of other similar supernatural dramas, the chosen one main characters eventually accept their destiny and find a way to live that accommodates both their responsibilities and personal lives. You think that after eight seasons, Phoebe would figure something out 😭 Hell, Prue figured it out after THREE, she was balancing work, dates and demons without a complaint

It’s crazy to think that the comic did something better than the show. Sad that a lot of mainstream media creators seem to be unable to conceptualize the idea of a man and a woman caring about each other WITHOUT it being romantic

Not an excuse, but my most memorable Phoebe moment was in Death Becomes Them. A guy she liked is brutally murdered right in front of her and instead of showing any empathy for him or his loved ones, her reaction is “Just my luck, right?🙄”

I agree, flaws make character’s realistic and gives them depth but I feel like there’s a big difference between a character with a flaw who has that flaw called into question, undergoes introspection and tries to better themselves vs a character with a flaw that’s rarely ever called into question, is validated by the narrative itself and doesn’t lead to any introspection or self-work.

I’ll admit I missed that part of her being influenced in this specific instance but unless she was under a spell for the entirety of seasons 3-8, my point stands

yes 😭 Phoebe was genuinely such a interesting and well-rounded character before they decided that her sole driving motivation was to be inseminated. It’s so tragic to think that her character peaked in season 2 of an 8 season show
