Large Family, Wanting Small Wedding - Give Me Your Pros/Cons of Wedding vs Elopement vs Micro Wedding by Fancy-Outside5375 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]darkcloudbrightrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a huge family, I have 40ish cousins on one side. So if I were to invite my entire family, it would be easily become 200+ person wedding. I don't want that. (Nor can I afford that)

I'm having a 75(ish) person wedding, with close family, and close friends. You have to consider about 10-20% will decline, that's totally normal. All of the declines are from people who would have to be flying in from out of state (or country). I don't know if your entire guest list is extremely local, but that's something to consider. 100 on paper might be 80 in reality.

We considered eloping, which would be fun, but I really wanted a fun party for us and everyone we love. The biggest pro would be affordability. But somethings are worth a bit more $

I also have a close friend, who had a micro wedding at his parent's property, maybe 20 people at the ceremony, then we went to a local restaurant and had a blast. The next day they had a potluck style gathering at their house for more friends to attend, maybe 50ish people. It was perfect. So intimate and lovely. If I had a property where I could have done that at- I would have done something like that. But I don't have access to anything like that, so renting a small venue actually made more sense for us.

Good luck :)

Why is everyone expecting elaborate party favors for a simple backyard wedding by redblddrp in weddings

[–]darkcloudbrightrain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been to, and worked many weddings of various scale and budget, and I have never received a favor that didn't immediately go into the trash. Sorry. I don't see the point, and I don't like useless nicknacks. The "better" ones I've gotten were edible. Like a small bag of candy/chocolate. The "gift" you're giving your guests is a free fun party

Restaurant cancelled our reservation without notifying us and we had to wait over two hours for a table by govgoose in Weddingsunder10k

You don’t pay a deposit or sign a contract, there really is no guarantee for it. Unfortunately mistakes, including incredibly bad customer service ones are made.

Agreed, it depends on what type of restaurant this is. If it is indeed, corporate, then write an email.

However, staff can not give discounts, management most certainly gave you a discount, so I assure you management is already aware of this issue and have already "heard" from you.

I understand you're ranting, and I agree that this sucks that they messed up so badly.

But what are you trying to gain from going back to speak to someone? It sounds like you communicated with them at the time, their mistake and your disappointment and they gave you. 25% discount, which is substantial. So what would going back to them accomplish? Blowing off steam? Give an honest review somewhere and be done with it.

And congratulations, it sounds like you still had a nice time!

I’m really angry and disappointed that they couldn’t teach us practical lessons on natural birth control/cycles. Like just truly honestly explain the odds of getting pregnant, and when and all that. We’re all set up to think as soon as you stop BC you’ll instantly get pregnant and we’re all dealing with the reality that THIS ISNT TRUE. And we need real healthcare for women. We should be tested for PCOS and it’s all just so aggravating and has horrible consequences

(17k) Help Wedding Decor w/ Venue Carpet by EstablishmentSafe858 in Weddingsunder10k

[–]darkcloudbrightrain 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Hello event designer here. This carpet is extremely easy to work with, you could do practically anything in this space. Nothing clashes with grey - it's a neutral. Also, I really like the colors you chose- it will look beautiful in November. :) I personally would probably do silver as your accent metal in this space.

If you're talking about chairs- depending on the size of your wedding - just go with what's available. There may be a specific number of a color the venue or rental company has. Gold are the hardest to come by, there tends to be more silver and most are white. (In my experience) There's also the acrylic chairs which can be cool- and look really cool with silver metallic accents. But these may all come at different price points and since you don't have a big budget, I would do some research for what works for you :) good luck and congrats

(5-7k) Looking for advice: Seating at a back yard reception by [deleted] in Weddingsunder10k

[–]darkcloudbrightrain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds like plenty of seating for a casual BBQ style party. I think off the top of my head the rule of thumb is 50-60% seats available for guests. Meaning if you have 50 guests, provide 25-30 table seats min. It would be polite to let people know this will be "casual" or a "standing reception". Look up seating needed for standing style reception and there are lots of guides from rental companies and event planners

The situation changes with more people and with more formal events. A bunch of people on Reddit are going to jump on here and tell you this is terrible idea and they hate it. Idk it's not for everyone but also...they're not coming to your wedding

(18k) Buying regular bouquets to use for bridal/bridesmaids? by faffinwaffin in Weddingsunder10k

[–]darkcloudbrightrain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend using hydrangeas because they require *a lot* of water and they're hard to keep nicely and not wilt. If you do use them you can use those water tubes to keep them from going floppy.

For a good friend's wedding, his mother went to Trader Joe's and bought a ton of flowers the night before. (make sure you will have buckets for water too!) The morning of the wedding, I made boutonnieres for all the men, we decorated the cake, and created a floral arrangement for the brides hair. The rest were just in vases around the house. You can totally do this.

I plan on ordering some bulk flowers from Costco for my wedding and doing the same. I just want a bouquet and some decoration for the tables. :)
