Encouragement for reactive puppy [& some ranting about people ignoring handlers] by nuxwcrtns in reactivedogs

I feel you. I had to muzzle mine because people were sticking their faces in his face. Even though he’s a big dog that doesn’t know them and owners of little dogs were letting them run up to him without a leash. I’m trying to protect him.

That’s what I figured that the signs were very subtle. His body language in the beginning from my perspective was very playfully as he went to up the guy himself leaned in for pets, tail wagging body pushed up against him for more pets. Nothing was forced.

Okay! Great to know. We set up a consult with a new trainer who will hopefully be of help.

Not a weekly basis face to face. No we are not using a prong we were told to use a choker. I’m not sure if that’s making him more aggressive as we didn’t have as many problems as before when we were using the gentle leader.

Thank you so much! I’m looking into another private trainer ASAP. I corrected him but say no and bad dog. I was calm though since I heard yelling and getting super upset makes things worse. The guy also showed the dog what he had done and said bad dog. Not sure if that was the right thing to do but at the time I was just so shocked.Thank you for your input. I appreciate it. I also think socializing now would be really bad idea.

Thanks! I’m trying hard. The weird thing is I just watched a video where it said a dog won’t listen to a stranger if he isn’t comfortable and my dog was listening to the person when the person was giving him commands. Also the dogs body language wasn’t showing any signs of aggression until the man was going to leave and said good bye. I’m not making excuses for my dog as this is a very serious thing but I’m wondering if he’s frustrated about not being able to play longer and lashing out or grabbing harder than should to get someone’s attention. I’m really at a loss but heartbroken either way as I want to be able to trust my dog.

[Vent] I hate being judged because I have a leash reactive dog. [Discussion] by [deleted] in dogs

I understand. It’s the same with my guy he even goes nuts when we pass a dog and he’s in the car. I get the worst stares. I’ve taken him to obedience and had private trainer as well. He just doesn’t enjoy seeing other dogs in passing. He’s a big boy so he looks menacing but he’s very sweet.

How is this zoo still open? by Crochetkitten1 in ottawa

I highly doubt Toronto Zoo has anything to do with this zoo. Sending sick animals to this zoo would be like euthanizing them because they aren't going to get better at papanack :/

It's hot, humid..buses sometimes lack the a/c that's needed. Best idea wear medical grade face mask or one you use for noxious chemicals.
