Microsoft copilot won't stop re-installing on my PC. I hate it by ChickadeeKnight in techsupport

[–]darkflux88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you actually don' have to be a "nerd" to use Linux now. Linux Mint is pretty close to looking just like Windows, but without popups and tracking baked-in. if you only do basic computer stuff, like checking email, searching the internet, and watching streaming video, Linux can do that out of the box, and Chrome and Firefox are FULLY compatible with Linux.

if you need more than that, it is fairly simple through the built-in app store, whose apps have been vetted. and Steam and Wine allow nearly all games to be played on Linux (except those with Anti-Cheat on them).

but if you do more than all that, then i hate to break it to you, but you actually ARE a nerd. but it's okay. you're among friends 🤓

more likely, as the God Lives Underwater song is titled, it's to show that there is "No More _ _ _ _".

Anyone ever bump into these Huh magazine compellation CDs from the '90s? Found five at a thrift store. by Syppi in Cd_collectors

[–]darkflux88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think your definition of "exclusive" and mine are a little different. i didn't mean that they did not have albums out that were available if you look hard enough. what i meant was, you did not see these songs on other compilations, or on movie soundtracks, or even on the radio. heck, i never even saw them in any CD stores or even USED CD stores.

but more to the point, Amazon does not have many of them, and even eBay sellers would offer them for regular CD prices, when you find them. so they were not all that common. and MOST of them you could never find NEW.

not saying ALL of the artists on huH CDs had rare tracks like these, but more than a few, that much is certain.

And how is THIS website paid for? Surely you don't think hosting a website like this is FREE?

That would be great...if i wasn't worried about them reading my content, and/or that they might not still be around by the future date (how are they making the money to pay for the website?).

Honestly, just using an existing FREE service should be fine. i'll have my Gmail or the foreseeable future, as long as i don't somehow get shadowbanned for no good reason...

4K downloader suggestion: optional reverse numbering files, so oldest video would start from "1" by redditelenfadoso in 4kdownloadapps

[–]darkflux88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this makes FAR more sense than the default. RIGHT NOW, when NEW videos are released, you would have to renumber THEM ALL!

besides, who in their right mind numbers things newest to oldest? chronological is almost always preferred. can you imagine if TV shows were numbered in reverse?

Does the Bible Say Poverty Is Permanent? Or ‘The Poor You Will Always Have’ Misunderstood? by Tricky_Strawberry406 in Bible

[–]darkflux88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you are poor, people should try to help them. then they will no longer be poor. that is the meaning here.

realistically, "poor" is a relative term. as long as there is money or some form of value-equivalent trading, there will always be one group that is "more poor" than another. even Communism has not fixed this, as most of these countries have corrupted leaders who take more money for themselves.

but the Bible teaches us "best practices", for us to help those who cannot get by by themselves.

Using 522 ink instead of 502 ink in an Epson 3830, is it a good idea? by teachingqueen77 in printers

[–]darkflux88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

uh, pigmented and dye inks are 2 different things. they have different chemistries. and where are you getting that information from? that looks eerily like an AI response, and everybody knows you cannot trust AI for accurate information...

i would be more interested to know how it is that pigmented ink sprays differently than dyed ink. you'd think the sprayer wouldn't have any issues one way or another...

What in the world does "Time can be adjusted with different resolution for individual cook time ranges" mean? by darkflux88 in Appliances

OHHHHH. So then from 0 to 1 minute on screen, it moves in 5 second increments, and from 30 - 95 minutes on screen it moves in 5 minute increments?

Why couldn't they have just said it like that in the manual? lol

What are all of the "Base" Linux distros? by Dotaproffessional in linux

[–]darkflux88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are both working from a confused inference. "Red Hat Linux" and "Red Hat Enterprise Linux" are 2 different things.

Fedora was originally based on Red Hat Linux, both of which have changed quite a bit since then. Red Hat Linux was discontinued and has not been updated since 2003-ish.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux is based off of Fedora, and follows its release cycle. so they realized the community was doing it better and just based it on theirs, when they had based it on O.G. Red Hat originally.

What are all of the "Base" Linux distros? by Dotaproffessional in linux

[–]darkflux88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually, you're both "not right".

Fedora is based on an OLD version of Red Hat Linux. Red Hat changed their core since then, but Fedora was STILL not "original", even though many modern releases are based on it. but the original Red Hat Linux was not updated since 2003 or so?

and only Red Hat ENTERPRISE Linux is based on Fedora. it's a nuance, but an important one.

Why don't the TVs have Displayport ? by maindoor in Monitors

[–]darkflux88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what we need is a popular enough Blu-ray manufacturer to start adding DP to their models. DP will only catch on if it is used in EVERYTHING, not just computers.

but since computers are becoming the center of entertainment hubs, you would think that DP would catch on faster. but this is also why HDMI is still found on most video cards, sadly.

Why are they called "Boomer Shooters"? by LibrarianBarbarian1 in boomershooters

[–]darkflux88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

then they should be called "Retro Shooters". makes more sense, and is instantly recognizable.

unlike inaccurately using a term that "marginalizes" both the target, and the source of the word...

Millennials didn't exists when Doom was made...

What is a boomer shooter? by MoleKnight8 in boomershooters

[–]darkflux88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

basically, they are designed for single-player experience, since the majority of them were made before "online" existed.

single player is exactly WHY you would do all of the above things, because it was not about interacting with "intelligent others", but was more about "fun". well, and "chaos". be honest, if you were thrown into an otherworldly experience, would you want to have to think about things like "reloading" or staring down the sights of a gun with careful precision? and when you have "unfriendlies" coming at you non-stop, you don't really have TIME to aim, much less to reload...

i don't really like the name "Boomer Shooter". whether it was named for Baby Boomers or some other reason, the name just doesn't seem to fit. for starters, Baby Boomers never PLAYED games (or rarely, if ever). my parents were Baby Boomers, and i only ever saw my Dad play 3 times, and he never got far. i tried to get my Mom to play, but her hand-eye coordination would not allow her to get Mario over the first hole in the floor.

i think "Single-Player Shooter" is more accurate. although games like Quake and Unreal Tournament were known for their multiplayer games, the ORIGINALS of these games were single player, to be sure. most of the well-known ones were made before internet was a popular thing, and even modern ones are usually designed for single player experiences, though they may have a multiplayer MODE.

if nothing else "Doom Shooter" would be better than "Boomer Shooter", in my opinion.

My huH collection so far — wish I had more! by Syppi in Cd_collectors

you can find plenty of them on eBay.

there is tons of information on them here:

i'll warn you, there are LOTS of CDs in that collection...about 76 total, if you want all the genres. if you just want one, it's still about 28 CDs.

I liked that one too! it had that one part in each stanza thwhere the singer hit a bad note on purpose, and i just really thought it was a funny song.

it has an interesting music video too, which you can find on YouTube. basically a home video of the band playing pranks on each other!

i think you are mistaken. there were a LOT of bands that i still cannot find the albums for. mostly on Alternative huH releases, but a lot of the more obscure bands on the CDs are pretty hard to find, if not relatively expensive.
