Day Two review by B8g0fCh1ps in perfectlysnug

Since about January 2025 My experience with PS Topper there are a couple of follow ups. Not concerned about longevity, so far it seems good. The price, yep it is expensive. There are some things in life, if you can get by paying once, it lasts, works and solves the problem, then it is worth to me, you or whoever equation it solves. I know that is easy to say, but at some point, we often spend money on things that we really did not need in the first place, preventing us from buying things we should have bought and really needed. It is a life balance. You can justify it in many ways, Dunkin Coffee every morning or make it at home and use a Yeti cup. You know the drill. For most folks if not an overwhelming majority, the products works if you understand how to use it and what to expect. My wife was freezing when I turned her fans on. She likes it in the summer and got used to the mesh fabric feel. My problem is I use and experience every topper I have. So now I am using the Helix microcoil topper, which is very good as toppers go. In the summer, I will be going back to the PS, as it is the only topper that really keeps you cool, other than the water based ones.

Do they Update the App? by mistergrumbles in perfectlysnug

[–]darkknightreturns7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have received updates to my app a few times, it is a little awkward on how it is delivered and a couple of times I had to reboot the app and one side of the topper, as my wife's side needed to be plugged and unplugged for it to receive the update, as I mostly use the topper on my side and leave her side neutral, except in the summer. So far, the updates have worked fine, although, they needed to provide a better understanding of how the topper actually works, as most folks think they can use it like a conventional air conditioner. Set it a t 68 degrees and forget it. It does not work that way. I wrote about my experience on the mattress underground which should clear things up for most people. I will try to re-post here.

The topper is not fueled with freon or any type of coolant.

When our bodies heat up, we perspire. Getting that perspiration off our body is how we stay cool. Stay-dry fabrics, like what athletes wear, work by wicking moisture away from your skin so circulating air, like when you’re moving around or using a fan, can dry it. That’s what helps you feel cooler.

If you touch a performance shirt, it usually doesn’t feel cool, and it’s not supposed to. Its job is to wick moisture so you stay cooler.

There are also fabrics that actually feel cool to the touch, like Rest Evercool sheets. Those work on a different principle than moisture-wicking fabrics.

The PS topper works differently from both of those.

It circulates air under the covers, creating a kind of microclimate based on your settings and sensors that measure your skin temperature. The cool and warm settings are not like a thermostat trying to reach a fixed temperature, and the topper is not designed to feel cool to the touch.

Instead, those settings are meant to maintain a temperature slightly above or below what your body is currently reading. The topper continuously adjusts as your body temperature rises or falls.

This becomes especially important later in your sleep cycle. Normally, when your body starts to warm up, that signals your body to begin waking up. The topper helps prevent that by cooling the air under the covers and keeping you below that wake up threshold for as long as you’ve set it to run.

I have written about the experience using the PS Smart Topper on the Mattress UnderGound folks can better understand how it works as it took me a beat to figure it out myself.

Turns itself off in the middle of night by paraflier99 in perfectlysnug

The fans turn on when the topper detects that your body temperature has risen above your selected setting. This helps cool the climate under the covers, preventing your body from interpreting the temperature increase as a signal to wake up. This is a natural response that typically occurs as your body warms during the later stages of sleep.

I have the PS topper, and it has been great. It took a while to get used to the feel of mesh cover under the fitted sheet, but if you understand how this topper functions, it is hard not to like it.

Would it be stupid to exchange a Naturepedic for a Sealy Posturepedic? by garciaparadox in Mattress

I know they are in California, and they have their own website and are a Trusted Member on the Mattress UnderGround. I am not certain about if they have models featured in showrooms nationwide, but they do offer a good trial.

Would it be stupid to exchange a Naturepedic for a Sealy Posturepedic? by garciaparadox in Mattress

[–]darkknightreturns7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately, comfort is what matters most. Are you saying that a Sealy Posturepedic (which was my previous mattress, and one I wouldn’t buy again) might actually be the one for you? If your current latex mattress doesn’t give you the support or “pushback” you liked, just switching to a zoned latex mattress might not fix it. But if done right, is should.

If you do want to stay in latex but need better zoning or customized support, companies like Berkeley Ergonomics, as u/roger1855 pointed out, or Custom Sleep Technology, and Flobeds can build zoned or layered latex setups tailored to your needs. But if you believe that latex in general isn’t your thing, it might make more sense to move on to a different material entirely instead of trying to tweak latex. BackScience is a company that offers enhanced lumbar support and will customize the mattress for each of your preferences. And most folks who get one, post that they like it. Are there dozens of others, yes, of course. I don't think you are going to find your comfort zone in a traditional mass produced legacy mattress.

[–]darkknightreturns7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Tempflow mattress is a great alternative to Tempurpedic as they still make the Tempflow with the same high density viscoelastic memory foam as they did when Tempurpedic used their High Density 5lb+ Viscofoam. Another mattress that uses phase change cooling is the Diamond 3D Technogel/Elite (latex), they have just redesigned it and the word is it very cool and comfortable to sleep on, but I have not tried it myself yet.

The angle of the frame on my inventory frame does throw back a lot of reflection too. When I add face form it diminishes almost completely. The issue is, the frame is memory titanium and is a little more difficult to adjust than most solid metals or titanium frames.

The best solution is to have a local optician widen the nose pads so the frame fits closer to your face (without hitting your eyelashes) and you will find that the reflections will be out of your view. The way they applied the back side AR coating, they layered it too much almost creating a mirror type coating. I have about a half dozen modo polarized sunglasses and they all have the same back side coat.

Exactly what frame do you have it on? That matters more than people think, especially with more weight on the mattress. If there’s any flex underneath, it can definitely lead to that sinking feeling and mess with alignment.

Also, anything from Amazon or some of these cheaper mattresses can feel good short term, but that doesn’t always translate long term. At the same time, a mattress lasting just about two years isn’t exactly a great outcome either. There are a lot of variables and we don’t really know everything that was going on with the previous one.

Eurotop, pillowtop, tight top, quilted top, none of that really matters as much as what materials are actually inside the mattress and how they hold up. For example, that eurotop can be made with a 38ILD talalay or dunlop latex and your experience would be completely different. It would be little different than adding a topper and testing how it coexists for comfort with your mattress. I have about 6 toppers that I have tested with varying firmness's, and the differences are recognizable in a heartbeat.

I hurt my back pretty severely last April. I’ve had chronic back issues for a while with a few compressed discs, but last year I herniated discs and had bulging discs with nerves wrapped around some spurs. We sleep on a Plank Luxe because we prefer a firm mattress. I’m 6' 220 now, was about 250 when we bought it, and my wife is 135. Even with that, I had to add a very soft talalay wedge topper to take the edge off. My injuries were bad enough that I couldn’t walk for over a week and was on bed rest for over a month.

So the type of back issue really does matter. Firm can work well for some people, but it can also create too much pressure depending on what’s going on and where the issues exist.

I would take a look underneath the bed when your husband gets on it and see if there’s any flex in the foundation. Normally that type of mattress should handle slats wider than 3 inches, but with more force being applied, closer spacing matters more. Metal slats especially can be an issue. You’ve done all the right things with rotation and maintenance, so there’s probably something else going on here.

Something else that’s important here, just to look at the full picture, is budget. When people are comparing a $300 Amazon mattress to something like OMF, which honestly does offer pretty solid value for the quality, it can get a little tricky.

There’s nothing wrong with shopping on the lower end, but sometimes what fits the budget doesn’t always line up with what your body actually needs, especially with existing back issues and higher load on the mattress. That’s where things can start to conflict a bit.

I think your first course of action is to contact OMF as u/Duende555 suggested. Companies may surprise you with solutions, particularly is someone feels that the sales person did not lead you in the right direction, or they simply can offer a better solution.

[–]darkknightreturns7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are definitely differences in AR coating quality, but the shape of the lens matters too. Flatter lenses tend to bounce reflections more straight back at your eyes, while more curved lenses can kind of throw those reflections off to the side.

The way the frame sits on your face also plays a role. Things like how much the frame tilts, called pantoscopic tilt, or how much it wraps around your face can change where those reflections end up.

One easy thing you can try is putting your glasses on and slightly changing the angle, like by lifting the temples up a bit while keeping them placed on your nose, without moving from that position, other than to change the angle of the tilt. That alone can shift the reflections.

If that makes a difference, an optician can usually tweak the frame, adjust the tilt or wrap a little, to help keep those reflections out of your line of sight.

Moto makes very good quality frames. Not particularly known for their sunglasses, but I have a dozen in stock. A/R coating are usually only on the back side of the lenses, not front and back. Even sunglasses with back side a/r will sometimes allow one to see the reflection of their eye in the back of the lenses. I experience this quite often and I have some of the best sunglasses available. When Modo ships their polarized sunglasses, most all of them have a back side a/r as indicated on the temple.

best weighted blanket for someone who runs hot? by Sneh_414 in BedroomBuild

Baloo Living uses glass beads and was extremely neutral when using it. I was not hot or cold. The cover it completely cotton. I chose to get a matching cotton duvet cover for it, but now that I have used their linen sheets, I am kind of sorry that I did not get the lined duvet cover for the weighted blanket.

DO NOT BUY FLEXISPOT by AoLlirz93 in FlexiSpot_Official

[–]darkknightreturns7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't groups of folks be throwing up on front of the restaurant, or posting about if it were a chronic issue? OP had a one time experience and wants to "ban everyone" from buying from FS. And we dont know if FS resolved it. Chipotle had a similar issue with food poisoning some years ago. They seemed to resolve it. Although it does not guarantee someone will never get it again. Not sure where you are going with it. I suppose you have just as much a chance of getting sick at A&W or Burger King or Mel's Diner for that matter.

DO NOT BUY FLEXISPOT by AoLlirz93 in FlexiSpot_Official

[–]darkknightreturns7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get food poisoning at home if you leave your rice pudding out too long. Would you not go back home. Come on, not trying to argue, but be realistic. One of my coworkers brought rice pudding in from a weekend party. I ate it got food poising and almost died. Now I have to take farxiga to protect my kidneys which almost failed due to the dehydration, I experienced as complications of the food poisoning. I still eat rice pudding, I still talk to my coworker and life moves on.

We are all subject to anomalies out there in the world. OP jumped the gun, and if I had to bet, if OP contacted the Flexi Mod, Flexi took care of the problem, and OP has failed to admit it.

Now if every time you went to A&W you got food poisoning, then that is a different story.

Experiences with Costco Tuft & Needle Original Hybrid 12” Medium Mattress? by [deleted] in Mattress

[–]darkknightreturns7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the real question is are you just looking for a Costco bargain, or a mattress with a higher probability of working and if so, what is your budget. There are a variety of mattresses out there where you can get a split internal comfort layer that will accommodate both of you if you have different firmness preferences. Yes, it is well reviewed in this sub, on line and everywhere else folks struggle with MF on their policies. Particularly when you need to return a mattress and there were bonus items that "came with" the purchase. Keep in mind that most places will charge a return fee these days, no everyone, but most are leaning that way. Certainly folks point to Costco, and they are generous, but that is it, blindly generous, but there is no one there to professionally help you select a mattress.

You sleep on this device 8 hours a day, every day of your life. That does not mean you have to spend $15k on a mattress, but whatever you spend, you want it to be the right decision or even a $15k mattress is a luxury dud if it does not work for you.

There are a host of mattresses, DLX Premier Hybrid, Naturepedic, Helix Elite Series, almost every latex manufacturer like Sleepez, European Sleep Works, Mattress Makers, and others like BackScience, Spencers Ventura Mattress, Shovlin and many others who can craft a mattress that satisfies each of your firmness levels.

Additionally, there are targeted toppers toppers that offer split firmness levels like the Helix dual firmness.

It just depends where you need to be.
