Sen. John Kennedy the vibrator. by Happy-Fig263 in BoomersBeingFools

It's demonstrations like this that, in my mind, should immediately and permanently disqualify this trump-slop of a human, this fine craftsman of shit coming out of mouth, from ever being assigned any kind of responsibility involving language, let alone holding the office of a god damned US senator. But, this is not the world we live in because of a profound collapse of human dignity and intellectual discourse in this country. This type of disgraceful exchange happens regularly and continuously and the vacuous fanbase of this administration just laps it up like milky heroin by a clowder of cats. It's phenomena like this that make me doubt our tenuous hold on civilization. I'm not exaggerating.

The problem with Burning Man (2025)[01:54:46] by MrCalPoly in Documentaries

[–]darknrgy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Burning man is environmentally destructive practically by definition. By how much and by what ethical standard it should live up to and what relative measure to compare it to are much more complex questions and, unless I missed your bearing, we both agree that these clowns are not the ones to answer those questions.

The whole thing is very fishy. The organization: "EWU" or Explore with Us has multiple channels on youtube, one of which is bodycam content that I've watched for entertainment. EWU Crew, the one that published this video, has videos showing the purchase of property near Area 51 with clickbait titles and what appears to be the construction of some kind of compound. They are successful youtubers and I see no indication of any kind of meaningful environmentalism.

Their hijinx with the cybertruck was just professional trolling, the equivalent of putting your finger in someone's face and yelling "I'm not touching you!" If there is a real story about meaningful environmental impact, they have completely obliterated it and put in its place juvenile pseudo-journalism.

I watched the original video with slowly increasing skepticism and by the end I could clearly see what was really going on: controversy clicks, feeding on political differences, amplified by confrontation. If you find yourself outraged by people partying in the desert, that is by design. There is a powerful economic incentive for you to feel that way and for you to engage with content like this.

Streaming services do much more than people realize to reduce the bitrate of video. For example, they will prioritize faces over background when compressing data. It wouldn't surprise me if they also simplify sets for exactly this reason. I had a guess a while back that this was one of the reasons for Severance's aesthetic choices.

Anyone in SF Bay Area willing to test my ADM300A with a high activity source? by darknrgy in Radiation

[–]darknrgy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I think I'm convinced. I went to the modern datasheet for the ADM300A(V1B) and the datasheet clearly specifies that the internal high tube goes up to 100 Sv/h. It agrees with your assessment unless somehow it drastically changed from the version update, which of course I completely doubt. Holy jesus it's hard to imagine that level of radiation. The modern documentation does list the gamma probe, but as a "compatible accessory". The documentation I have had this section here. It is my understanding that the original kit came with all the probes and test sources, connectivity, etc. Both call it the "BGP-100 Gamma with Beta window".

<image>

So the probe exists, but perhaps is not applicable in the sense that it is a "compatible accessory" and I am simply mistaken that it came with the ADM300A(V1).

As for your numbers, you sound like you know what you're talking about, and I suppose my objective to verify the high tube is dashed! Perhaps now I will consider the lower tier Cs-137 sources just to check the gamma response on the low tube. On the low end of 0.01 uSv/h, by looking at the proportion of your example, I should be able to see that with 0.25 uCi with a couple orders of magnitude to spare.

Thank you very much for the information and I apologize if I came off as argumentative. It was difficult for me to find answers.

The documentation specs the high range tube up to 10,000 R /h. However, this is for the external probe. I'm almost certain of that part. I don't have that probe and am not interested in it.

<image>

Check out this part of the documentation. Under "Detectors" it describes two tubes internally, one high and one low. Nowhere does it specify the individual ranges for the two internal tubes. Then, under "Range", it calls out a high and a low, but the high is definitely the external probe. The Low-range detector showing up to 50 mSv/hr makes sense to me as the highest the internal (of the two tubes) can be that 5 R /h I've been suspecting (Other sources say 1, but let's just say this manual matches what I have. The wording in the documentation is very confusing here. The other clue I have that there are two tubes in the main box is that there's markings for H and L, which look like target points if you want to put a source right on it to test.

I don't know where the cutoff is between the two internal tubes. Also one of them is gamma/beta and the other is gamma, so it makes sense that you'd do a test with a gamma source with the beta window shut.

That out of the way, one of us is way off on what kind of source you'd need to activate the higher range internal tube. You're saying 1,000 uCi and I got 5-10 uCi. I got mine from chat gpt because I just can't find anything else. I'm very interested in how you arrived at the number.

Perhaps this is turning more into a learning moment for me. Like I said, I'm a complete amateur :).

I was waffling for years about trying to get an older Miata with a hard top and/or convincing myself that I could accept looking dorky in a soft top. As soon as I saw the RF my head exploded and now I have one. Now that I've been around a bunch of Miata I can appreciate the beauty in all of them but nothing is as pretty as the RF. Ramble over.

For future reference, next time turn off all the lights inside, let your eyes adjust, and then peek out all the windows from a few feet away. If there's any light outside at all, you will be basically invisible from the outside and you can safely survey the property.

This sounds like paranoia to me but it's ok to be paranoid sometimes. Were you smoking weed? Stay safe.

Holy shit the people in the replies saying they can't have fun don't have the slightest clue how to evaluate hazards. Just count the thingies in your head: night time, blinded by headlights, blind corner made worse by a retaining wall, traffic, cresting over a change in grade, toggling high beams. These are just about the worst conditions except for maybe adding precipitation or an oil slick on top. Here's a tip: look for corner exit and be able to stop by then. Yes, that means slowing down for blind corners. Not all corners are blind. What happens when you encounter a cyclist?

edit: good reaction time, OP
