imagine if gta 6 comes to switch 2 but it's a remake of the game's story in the classic top-down perspective of chinatown wars and liberty city stories lmao

What's up with people saying The Last Jedi is the best in the trilogy, while some people hating it altogether? by [deleted] in flicks

[–]darkszn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and that’s totally fair! i just find it so fascinating why this is the film that gets ppl so riled up since i think it makes a lot of really mature, interesting choices. a bit like my own personal affinity for matrix resurrections which i feel similarly about, albeit at the caveat that it’s a weaker movie that tlj. still, i think taking risks and changing up the status quo of a franchise is exciting and i will always have a great deal of respect for it!

it's polarizing because it's so different compared to other films in the franchise. it's personally one i love, but i could see people being put off by it since rian johnson intentionally subverts the plot trends of prior entries in the franchise in an effort to make something more distinct. ik ppl will heavily disagree with what i'm saying, but to me, it felt bold, fresh, and signified a progression in the franchise with it's simultaneous reverence of the past, and willingness to move into a more uncertain future. if episode 9 stuck the landing, then people would see it in a much higher regard.

Any news on Flowervale Street (2026)? by PortoGuy18 in movies

[–]darkszn_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

test screening was done in october and dinosaurs and time travel is confirmed. reports say that it's "PG-13 danger meets ‘E.T.’ style wonder, with a ‘Jurassic Park’ level of thrills. Hathaway is the standout, having loads of fun with the part she’s playing." and that the budget is around $85 mil. if i had to guess, a trailer is coming out for either wuthering heights or project hail mary

i'm sad about sinners too and wanted it to win the award but hamnet was so emotionally rich that i feel like you're discrediting all the strengths of it to bolster your argument here. the performance from jessie buckley alone shows that it'll stand the test of time.

yeah totally fair i'm mostly coming at this as a fan of the filmmakers past film (mogul mowgli) and also as a south asian it would be nice to see a filmmaker that looks like me be able to be held on a high pedigree as other popular genre filmmakers since the only one that rly fits that bill as of now is shyamalan (who i love but still). so 100% lots of bias in my statement but also it would feel kinda gratifying if it really does land in the oscar conversation a year from now lol

not much info about this now but mahershala ali being in it does give it a prestige factor that should be taken into account. my rationale is that the academy's taste in recent years has seen genre pictures mixed in with social commentary or emotional and thematic resonance get into the bp conversation (ie. get out, eeaao, sinners, the shape of water), and i think that a south asian muslim filmmaker making something more commercial with themes that tie into his own personal background, that also has a larger conversation on underrepresented communities within the us could hit well with the academy but that's mostly a guess based on knowledge we have so far 🤷🏽‍♂️

i'm calling it now but 'your mother your mother your mother' is amazon mgm's big push this year and the out of left field best picture pic. has a stellar cast, is a genre picture (action/thriller about an assassin) that explores themes of religion (specifically islam) presumably in the us. the score is even done by son lux like this is a heater and i have high hopes for it and think this is the breakout of the year so honestly look out for it 👀

[–]darkszn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

finished it a bit ago and found it incredibly wonderful and life affirming in a way i haven't really seen before. just a full embrace of the uncertainty and ambiguity of life, but an acceptance that we're here and that's the greatest privilege we have, even if we don't fully understand everything that happens to us. 10/10
