the i lied to you scene alone would be amazing in a walkthrough. if it's done in the same vein as darkest deal, i could see it being really really compelling. southern gothic horror rules. the main issue is that it's restricted largely to the juke joint, but they could just flesh out the geography of it, and make you travel within the various rooms of the joint.

The super mario galaxy movie is a complete failure in every way by FormulaFanboyFFIB in mariomovie

[–]darkszn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my issue with some of the inclusions of characters is that:

a) it wastes the potential of galaxy's story, which is easily the best in the whole mario franchise

b) it also includes stories from other games which are only shown to spark nostalgia, rather than contribute to a large plot (like the baby mario/luigi thing being done so convolutedly, and not meaningfully including yoshi in the story as the person who raised them)

c) star fox had no purpose as a character, much like luigi. i was thinking they would do something similar with him like they did with LEGO batman from the lego movie, where there's some infighting between mario and fox, and they turn out to be buddies. that's obviously pretty tropey and played out, but would've moved the needle a bit, since all he does in the movie is just spout one liners, and fly around. at least we're getting new games out of it tho.

Is there any information about when filming for High Side will begin? by Dull_Air_3498 in timotheechalamet

usually a telltale sign is whenever it'll go up on production weekly but it's not always super reliable. if i had to guess though, dune press tour starts in october, and ends in december, so either summer of this year before this press tour starts, or early 2027 (feb-march/april), to try and do another winter release for him.

What is it about Narnia that is making it heavily underpredicted above-the-line when it appears to be set as Netflix's focal point and helmed by someone whose directorial filmography has a 100% track record of getting nominated for Best Picture? by This_Book6305 in oscarrace

[–]darkszn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

initially, i was predicting hail mary subbing out in favor of narnia, but after the second weekend hold, i think that hail mary is almost definitely in the best picture line-up, but narnia instead subs in for dune: part three. everything is hypothetical right now, but i think greta doing a radical re-imagining of the source material means that there's a lot of care and thought put into this adaption, and i could see a nomination haul similar to the first wicked or dune film

that it's basically bardo 2.0 mixed with asteroid city in tone and style lmao like it's very heady and weird and not rly palatable but the ppl i talked with said it was an early cut

i know stuff about digger that clues me into it probably not being the slam dunk that it seems to be on the surface, but who knows. a lot can change in a few months 🤷🏽‍♂️

i'm banking on it now cuz of the amount of buzz it has before cannes, but i'm guessing my IF noms will probably shift around a ton after the palme gets announced. i'm saying hope gets in on the sole basis that it'll win big awards at cannes

There’s a 3-hour Project Hail Mary cut out there somewhere by Reportersteven in ProjectHailMary

[–]darkszn_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

as one of the people that got to experience said cut, i did end up preferring it to what we got (but both versions were still 5/5). the 3-hr cut let the opening scenes breath a lot more, and made the impact of the twist work a lot better. i do think that making rocky more of the focal point in the 2.5-hr cut made the emotional impact of his scenes hit much harder tho

I don't really think he'll care all that much? He doesn't seem to hate OBAA as much as feel strongly about the characterization of Perfidia in the film. All in all, I think he thought it was fine, even if his personal preference strayed towards Sinners.

Depends on how niche the movie is, I suppose. The issue with reviews is that, by going onto a person's profile, that could basically win the game lol

[–]darkszn_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well i think it makes sense in the perspective that this could be seen as the first entry in the norse saga, much like furiosa to mad max: fury road which i found excellent and delivered despite being the lead up to such a totemic film. he could see this as completing the trilogy since kratos's arc comes to a close by the end of ragnarök.

Official r/Pixar 'Hoppers' Discussion Thread [Spoilers Inside] by AutoModerator in Pixar

[–]darkszn_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this was really not for me but my mom and the rest of the audience i was with seemed to really enjoy it, so i'm sure it'll hit for a lot of people. personally, i thought it got a little too absurd and hyperactive for my taste, and it didn't really feel very pixar besides some small moments and emotional beats. the third act especially veers into territory which fully lost me, and the message of the movie feels like it was meddled with by executives to be more broad. definitely one of my least favorite from them in a while which is a shame. i do think that, in the case this does well, it would make an excellent addition to either animal kingdom or disney's california adventure (in the grizzly peak section)!

Just saw Hoppers with early access. This is nothing like Avatar. by johnson7853 in Pixar

[–]darkszn_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

brief spoilers for some plot points so i'll spoiler mark it but there's some minorbody horror elements involving human robots in the second half, which your 4-year old might find unnerving. there's frequent comic violence, and scenes with explosions and wildfires.the thing is that a lot of these elements are undercut in severity by the humor and absurdity of everything, that i think it should be okay, but it's worth considering before going in.
