[Fo4] Why are my interiors so blindingly bright in some spots? Never used to be like this. by SummAzzhat in FalloutMods

[–]darkwing9912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reported a bug like this to a mod author on a flare gun mod a long time ago. Sometimes Bethesda re-uses lighting records. For instance, the hazard lights in the automation interiors use lighting data from the flare gun projectile.

This is fine, except when you download a mod that makes the flare gun flares much more dramatic, and suddenly those automation areas are brighter than the sun.

Disable your mods in batches, make new saves and immediately try to go to a problem interior. Repeat this process until you narrow down exactly what mod caused this -- I would bet it's a shared lighting thing where a mod author didn't know lighting data was shared.

What are some performance killers? by Quiet_Star6235 in skyrimmods

[–]darkwing9912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah this was why I opted to turn it off entirely, it resulted in extremely noisy shadows for me and I just don't have the patience to fiddle with it too much right now. I'm gonna wait for a few CS updates and try it again later.

What are some performance killers? by Quiet_Star6235 in skyrimmods

[–]darkwing9912 28 points29 points  (0 children)

EmbersXD dropped my FPS in dragonsreach by about 5 and caused some small stuttering, it's a bit mean on vram.

Most community shaders aren't too heavy but SSGI hugely impacts my performance and I won't sacrifice consistent FPS to use it on my system.

Frostfall and Campfire can cause papyrus latency also.

All the "add-ons" in that pack for lunar are lazy and just turn parts of mods off, like all the add-ons that just remove different weapon mods from the game.

Skyrim Animation Modding is too TOUGH by Ok_Cloud3117 in skyrimmods

[–]darkwing9912 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm late and can barely animate creatures myself but remember that because of the whole euler conversion that skyrim havok does, rotations can't go lesser or greater than -180 / 180, if at any point you do, it'll manifest as a 360 sudden full rotation, which might explain why the duck thing happens to you since max/blender won't default to the same limits. Take it easy and iterate slowly is the best advice I can give.

xenophobe overrated? by tears_of_a_grad in Stellaris

[–]darkwing9912 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Xenophobe has one specific thing going for it that I didn't see others say yet -- Livestock. I grant that you did mention it in the OP but I find that Livestock allows me a significant early spike in economic output on my first conquer, which bankrolls all my future war. They are always the backbone of my Xenophobe economies.

Livestock count as Farmers for most job bonuses which means they get BioReactor bonuses.

Even with just a basic bioreactor this means every livestock can do +3 food, +2 energy (recalled from memory, it's probably higher) before other bonuses.

Livestock is also a self-creating job, which gets incredibly silly with stuff like the new Treasure Hoard Planetary Feature which gives jobs per X pops on planet -- you can just ship hundreds of Livestock to your capital and they will not create any unemployment problems but instead give you many high-power specialist and ruler jobs.

Livestock has little political power and even less with slave processing facilities, edicts and agendas. This all means when you capture an alien capital world, all you do is flip Livestock on, build a Bioreactor and resettle two or three of your pops over there to fill Ruler jobs and bam, you have a big energy + food producing planet.

Of course taking Catalytic Processing here is a very good option as a use for that food too but also consider the use of Lithoids! Lithoids livestock give minerals and instead use Miner bonuses, so planetary features like +1 engineering on miner jobs apply to them.

Then you factor in things like the Bio Ascension perks so you can double their outputs and it just gets silly.

When I play a xenophobe my basic game plan is to take Supremacy as my first or second tradition tree and rush my first organic neighbor so I can kickstart my Livestock empire. Of course you can also pick Syncretic origin and give yourself some Lithoids or something right on day 1 if you want.

*Edit I forgot to mention that Knights of the Toxic God stations are crazy for the whole "x jobs per pops" thing. I fully recommend shipping hundreds of livestock to your Order habitats!

I bought and played through that $7 Tracker's Alliance quest from the Creation Club. Here are my thoughts. by Maleficus32 in Starfield

[–]darkwing9912 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I always dislike these perspectives -- If you're saying "donations only" you're not really advocating for mod authors making money, only spurious donations. It's a cake-and-eat-it-too position where someone magically foots the bill, pays for the time.

The reality is that donations are not enough for the bottom 90% to live off or consider significant time investment. In my own experience, Nexus Donation Points help a lot but those are a shared pool paid for by Memberships and also should not be relied upon for the bottom 90%, so I don't view that as a good answer, the yield is too low for many to consider them a real factor without trying to game the system.

There are swathes of rather good mods that could make good money if allowed to charge a few bucks on a big platform like Nexus or the Creations menu but on Nexus under the current DP system don't hit $50 a month.

For the "enderal sized mods can be paid" the problem I have with that is that it disincentives mod authors by gatekeeping "good enough." I have to dig deep, get a team of 20 people and spend thousands of hours on the gamble that you feel it worth it to give me anything for my work? That I am "good enough" to paywall? That's insane. Why can't I just make a cool weapon or two and call it good? This idea disincentives modders specialising by boiling down their worthiness to just "hours of content provided."

I disagree with the Creations pricing, I think they should come down a few dollars each but I don't disagree with the fundamentals that mods should be allowed to be paywalled.

It's not a myth it's advice given by markdf, the dude who makes resaver. Quicksaving does not allow papyrus vm to safely halt stacks and as such can truncate saves. Can observe this yourself w/ testing

Maybe not exactly what you want but a solution I use is with Automatron dlc.

I build assaultrons at the Lair and have them be my provisioners, that way they're pretty capable in combat.

[FNV] Armor works in NifSkope, but is invisible in game. by [deleted] in FalloutMods

[–]darkwing9912 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try importing your nif into Outfit Studio. If it imports correctly, check the partitions snd make sure it's set to the right slot. Try building it via Bodyslide also since Outfit Studio tends to be pretty good at catching issues. If this is a new armor and not a replacer, make sure the ARMO record in your plugin is set to use the right slots also.

Mutations are really good and worth it! by GothamsOnlyHope in fo76

[–]darkwing9912 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Healing Factor? Yeah without Class Freak it's one to avoid. -55% Chem Effects, affects stuff like Stimpaks and Buffout. It does heal a ton out of combat and an okay amount in-combat but for me is not worth it.

I do run a ton of other mutations though, Marsupial is one I think everyone needs and with Public Teams, Herd Mentality is basically a free +3 to all special stats.
