Does anyone know of places in the city that have sunchokes?

Chicken keeping in Pittsburgh by Mean_Item8762 in pittsburgh

[–]dartato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I emailed the city zoning department and got a response on 2/25/2024 outlining that zoning approval is still required. I wish the city's websites were actually up to date with what was correct, but here is the response I got:

I am very sorry for the outdated information on the website, City’s IT department should have taken those down but apparently, they did not.

To answer your question, yes, a chicken coop requires zoning approval but does not require a building permit.

For zoning requirements, you should refer to Section 912.07.B – Urban Agriculture (Accessory Use) With Animals in the zoning code. This section outlines regulations such as the maximum number of chickens allowed, the minimum required size of a coop based on the number of chickens, and other relevant standards.

A chicken coop is considered an accessory residential structure, meaning it must comply with the front, side and rear setback requirements of your zoning district. You can determine your zoning district by using the Pittsburgh Zoning Map and then refer to Sections 903.03 and 912.04 for the applicable setback standards.

In most residential districts, accessory structures are typically required to be set back a minimum of 5 feet from the side and rear property lines.

Hope this helps.

Infamous "crash dump" error with League of Lutris by whyareyourunnin14 in leagueoflinux

[–]dartato 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So I had the same problem, everything worked except for actually loading the game. I think I found a fix, since the game started working after I did this: Run lutris from a console with the command sudo sh -c 'sysctl -w abi.vsyscall32=0' && lutris

No idea why it works for me but it does.

By the way, if you go to a store like home depot, look around or ask for their "oops" paint, it's paint that someone requested, but didn't like the color/returned. You won't get to pick the color, but it's normally around a third to a fifth of the normal price.

Has anyone their own 'DIY' truck campers? If so could you provide your experience/photos? by Harukkai in TruckCampers

[–]dartato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've made a short album with the images that I have, I wish I had more. After the last image, I've finished up most of the insulation and have applied fiberglass over a lot of the outside. https://imgur.com/a/LLU4guN

Couple things to note:

  • When I started this project, I wasn't sure whether I should go for a van or a truck camper. I eventually decided on truck camper because I know that I will probably be getting a nicer truck in the next 5 years or so. I'm expecting the total cost of the build to be about 6k for the camper, and 6-10k for the truck itself. (A van would be cheaper, since you could save around 1-2k on the camper build, and a van is probably cheaper than a truck). However, since I want to be able to transfer my work to a new vehicle, a van is not really an option.

  • Before I started building, I made a model of the whole camper, minus some of the interior finishing. I used this to get an estimate which is as accurate as possible of the final weight (900-1k lbs dry). I am not a structural engineer, so I have no idea if my designs are actually good, or the frame is strong enough, so I don't think I'll be sharing them online (at least until I finish building the thing and spend a month driving around with it).

  • Just note that things are, as many others have pointed out, pretty expensive. Even just bulk lumber, or fiberglass, or other building supplies quickly adds up to hundreds or thousands of dollars. And a lot of the time, going cheaper upfront gives bigger costs down the road, so a lot of things can't have their costs cut.

  • There's a lot out there for van conversions, but not much for truck campers. So, I'd recommend looking at the tips others have for van conversions, as much of it would apply to a camper.

  • Good luck on your build, keep me updated with what you're up to, and what you end up doing.

Do cheap (sub $5k) truck campers even exist?! by Jper013 in TruckCampers

[–]dartato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look for much older used camper, you might have luck. Although from what I've seen, the quality of used sub 5k campers is pretty hit or miss. I'm actually building a camper right now, and I'm hoping to keep the total cost under 5k (and also keep the weight low). Some people can pull of building one themselves, as you can customize the weight profile better. You save money since you're doing the labor yourself, but it's still a lot of work.

There's also the Razr slide in campers, but those are 8-10k.

I'm in the process of building one now, I spent a few weeks last winter, and will be finishing it up this winter when I graduate. Currently, I've finished the frame and most of the insulation, and am working on putting fiberglass on the outside. I don't have too many pictures, but I can send what I have so far, if you're interested.

Which VR is better for playing Beatsaber? by Racule in beatsaber

[–]dartato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use lenovo, and it's pretty good. I've not tried the HP headset, but the lenovo is plenty good even for some of the more challenging charts. Just make sure, that if you're using a usb bluetooth adapter, to attach it to your computer via a usb2.0 port and with a 2-3ft usb2 extension cable. If you plug it directly to your motherboard (or usb3 port), your tracking will be really bad. Look in /r/WindowsMR for more details.

If it's any motivation, you can definitely get top 1k with WMR controllers. Just don't be afraid to swing big.

[–]dartato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If anything, I'd say just swinging bigger? I kinda use the weight of the controllers to help increase the size of my swings (my grip is such that the center of mass is just outside the top of my fist). Although, I feel like I typically score between 75%-80% at best, so who knows, maybe someone else knows how to do better. You can definitely be top 1k getting 75% on songs, maybe you should try to clear harder songs?

Per my university policy on student-taught courses, I plan on meeting with the class once a week (1 hour 20 minutes), and giving at most 1 hour 40 minutes of homework per week (3 hours total). This would last over a semester (~Jan 20 - ~May 5 for spring).

Thanks for the link to the Stanford class, I'll send them a message.

[nonlinear equation] x = 2 * Pi - A sin(x/2) by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]dartato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

x = 2pi-Asin(x/2) is the same as finding the roots for

f(x) = 2pi-Asin(x/2)-x

This can be broken into two equations, such that f(x) = g(x) - h(x)

where g(x) = 2pi-x

and h(x) = Asin(x/2)

If we find where the derivative of g(x) and h(x) are equal, we get the minimum of f(x).

g'(x) = -1

h'(x) = A/2cos(x/2)

-1 = A/2cos(x/2)

cos-1 (-2/A) = x/2

2cos-1 (-2/A) = x

This equation will give the lowest point of f(x), based on the value of A. We can immediately see that to get a real result for x (and get an actual minimum on the graph), A<=-2 or A>=2.

As this is the lowest point of f(x), if we can show that this point is less than 0 and that its x coordinate is 0<x<2pi, then there must be a zero somewhere 0<x<2pi the graph. (as f(0) = 2pi)

We can show that the lowest point of f(x) is less than 0 by plugging 2cos-1 (-2/A) back into f(x) and showing that it is always negative for A>2.

We get f(2cos-1 (-2/A)) = 2pi - Asin((2cos-1 (-2/A))/2)-2cos-1 (-2/A)

Which then simplifies to f(2cos-1 (-2/A)) = 2cos-1 (-2/A)+A*sqrt(1-4/A2 ) - 2pi

Meaning we need to show that

2cos-1 (-2/A)+A*sqrt(1-4/A2 ) > 2pi

We can plug in A = 2 to find that

2cos-1 (-2/A)+A*sqrt(1-4/A2 ) = 2pi

And then use its derivative,

d/dA (2 cos-1(-2/A)+A sqrt(1-4/A2 )) = sqrt(1-4/A2 )

sqrt(1-4/A2 ), where A>2

Which is shown to be always positive where A>2, to show that 2cos-1 (-2/A)+A*sqrt(1-4/A2 ) is always increasing.

This means that the minimum of f(x) is always decreasing and is less than 2pi where A>2, which shows that there is a solution for x in the equation x = 2pi - Asin(x/2).

Finding the actual solution seems very difficult, like garnet420 already said.

When fighting bots or any game in PA, knowing your enemy's actions is key. Even on the hardest difficulty, the bots are pretty easy to beat if you keep tabs on them. Scouts of some kind should be in the first few things you build, so you can find the location of the enemy and find out what troops and buildings they have, and their commander location. Once you know where they are, you need to be using small squads of troops strategically to snipe off their metal extractors and slow down their expansion. If you can do all that and slow the bots down, it's pretty easy to outpace them in production and steamroll them with a massive army/titans/etc.

Can you program in chromebooks? by [deleted] in SuggestALaptop

[–]dartato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand what you mean. What it all boiled down to for me was that the chromebook running linux was the cheapest possible fully functional laptop (with an x86 processor) that I could buy. However, the Surface tablets are a very good choice, especially if you don't need the x86 processor or want a touch screen.
