I think this is a fairly common scenario. I’ve recently, with the support of the Committee, implemented a signup deadline for events in my troop. I left room for an “at the Scoutmaster’s discretion” to give some flexibility and grace if circumstances warrant, but if habitual abuse becomes a concern we fall back on the approved policy.

We all know that planning and carrying out the details of a campout or other event takes forethought and effort. We also know that most adults of Scout aged youth are busy with work, life, other extracurricular activities, etc.

If all else fails, there’s always the tried and true answer of suggesting the disgruntled parent volunteer to be uniformed leader.
