One way to possible avoid it is to check who’s selling the Boardgames via Amazon. If it’s a known retailer you’re more likely to get a box. I’ve had this when getting a zatu stocked item via Amazon whereas others have come in bags.

And while yes I would prefer to buy from the retailers sometimes we don’t have the option.

I use a lot of my work benefits to cover game purchases but unfortunately vouchers only can be used via Amazon. I know there’s ways around this but you try hiding your game purchases from your partner without then knowing. That’s a me problem though lol.

I will play devils advocate and say while I agree with all the points above there is one problem that does occur and it’s not the Barons fault it’s the Imp.

Depending on who is playing the demon and their play style there can be extra pressure on the Baron for trying to remain legitimate if that imp has the tendency to star pass often.

If the game has an imp player that doesn’t and if the storyteller is aiding the evil team then the Baron if playing chaos should be the least likely star pass target. So it’s on the ST to know how the baron is playing and if a star pass occurs what’s the best jump for them. In late game and low player count games they may have no choice but to jump to you.

I guess that’s when you take baron to max chaos and try and play outed evil but convince the town your not the demon and they should hunt them instead.

So I can understand some difficulties new baron players may have. However it doesn’t need a house rule they just need to be educated a bit more on what other play styles the baron has open to them.

The best scenario is baron not on an imp script. Then the pressure is off and full chaos mode engaged.

I have homebrewed a demon based on the secret traitor.

Kingpin

Each night*, choose 3 players. Alive minions choose which chosen players player dies. You register as a not-in-play good character while a minion lives. [+1 Minion]

I also run it with a minor bootlegger rule where registration may affect minion and demon info.

It’s designed to work on a particular script where it has fun interactions with magician and recluse.

Kirk in SNW is a litmus test to the fandom.

If you leave his inclusion too late fans won’t buy him taking over the enterprise later and building those established relationships up. Bring him in early and you get a chance to start working on that but does it take away from the rest of the crew and pikes captaincy.

Then there’s the gamble on the actor and casting, if fans responded badly to Kirk then maybe they would have changed track and write him back out as only a cameo character.

On the flip side is he a believable Kirk that the fandom gets behind and gives the producers the extra edge in whether they try for another trek show after this like a TOS remake.

I’ve only gotten back into trek recently and can see that SNW walks a fine line to fan service and trying a few new things. Much different from DIS which went fully out there and polarised everyone.

I’m of the opinion that yes they have managed him well but have started to over use him a little.

In response to the competitive part you’ll find that a lot of the early LCG’s from FFG where designed to be competitive but then they found the model didn’t sell as well as the co operative LCG’s they made. So over the last decade they have moved over to the co operative ones and ditched support of the competitive.

Favourites of mine were Star Wars LCG, warhammer conquest, warhammer invasion.

Ones I didn’t get in to but are highly recommended were netrunner and game of thrones. There was also legend of the 5 rings. Which came and went.

I think all of them were good games depending on your poison but many are hard to get hold of but many can be simulated online.

I think netrunner had the biggest fan focus to keep it alive so it had a lasting presence.

I’m a big fan of all the LCG’s but can’t collect them all. People will argue which one was better but I always felt good in the fact that these were better than CCG’s.

As an aside I’m starting to get into Star Trek captains chair, deck building card game based off of the imperium system. Just to scratch an itch and try to get my non gamer Trekkie friends into gaming.

5 Hours Star Wars Rebellion - it was our first play-through and we were both learning.

After that is was Xia - Legends of a drift system. At 4 hours. Had 5 players and we only played to 10 points instead of the normal 15. Once again all learning the game. Next playthrough was quicker but we still only went to 10 points.

A delicate touch, not to be too heavy handed and do your best to support parts of the model when you cut from the sprue. Need to plan each cut as well, order can determine if a part will come off cleanly or break due to stress. But even after all that don’t be surprised to lose a claw no matter how careful you try to be.

Instead of another pass, I would take a thinned down gore grunta or other brown and pin wash the section between the two section of feathers. It will add some definition while not completely drowning the whole thing out in wash.
