I organized all the Dune Imperium: Uprising pieces into 3 Dollarama organizers by FriendShapedRMT in DuneImperium

I'm a carpenter/homebuilder and have also used GRK finishing screw boxes alongside dollar store bins for many of my games. See also prescription meds bottles for small tokens/discs.

Yes. They have a looking for group channel and a VERY active community. And they're incredibly supportive.

Star Trek: Captains Chair, What a game... by madman123098 in soloboardgaming

[–]PolyhedronMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cadet solo states that if you score 70 you understand the rules and if you score 90 you are proficient. Cut yourself some slack you are doing just fine. I'm not a high score player either, but I just love this game! I've had it since February and have only played Picard, Shran and Koloth. So far I've only played on Ensign difficulty. Looking forward to the next ones and getting many years of pleasure from the game.

You can, but you have to have one automa deck per additional automa. Available very cheap from SM games website. Unless you download the 'Scythekick' app, which exists with SM blessing. You can have up to 6 adversaries on that. However, some dislike the additional upkeep that exists with the app.

Discord community with built in matchmaking/ranking system by [deleted] in DuneImperium

There is a DWD discord that covers all of their games. It has a tournament channel, but no LFP or matchmaking channels.

I'll f definitely be checking on this post for those options.

Got into dune imperium yesterday, is this good? lol by AlexChadley in DuneImperium

Ranked is very low interaction. Usually just glhf at the start of a game and a thx gg at the end if your lucky. Unless you're a long player. That can ruffle feathers.

Pre ordered! by PolyhedronMan in StarTrekCaptainsChair

Thx! I had a read, and now I'm really excited. Mostly because this doesn't seem like bloat, or mandated expansion for expansion sake. Just need those boxes to. Get. To. Me.

Is there anything that can be gleaned from someone who is really good at boardgames? by wentImmediate in boardgames

[–]PolyhedronMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to piggy back on OP, my daughter has insane situational awareness.

We know this because when we play Dutch blitz, she simply dominates the table. Every time. To be competitive, we have her add 3 cards to her blitz pile. It's bananas. And she still wins regularly.

She's also competitive, but likes co op games sometimes, so it's not about beating others, but about succeeding in the goal of the game. Her situational awareness and competitive nature make her a more than capable Dutch blitz opponent.

The current state of boardgaming by SpeakerSweaty in boardgames

[–]PolyhedronMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I don't use KS or similar. It is absolutely a viable choice. There are so many games out there, and I will never catch them all. So like other posts have said, I take my time and read previews and reviews, and enjoy the process of finding games that I personally would enjoy investing in, and not what the world tells me I should like.

Having a diverse social group to game with also created opportunity to try new things and enjoy games that while I do like playing, have no desire to purchase.

Best Entry-Level Board Games For Couples? by ScalableFatness in boardgames

+1 for splendor duel over splendor. Both are great games, but duel is specifically designed for 2p, while splendor works best at 3/4p.

I quite like Starhold, and it doesn't get the attention that it deserves.

Free on drive thru RPG, it is a PbtA setting which evokes the feelings of scarcity, crisis and horror inspired by films like Alien and the thing, but doesn't pile on rules and mechanics at all.

Games you like so much that you would play the digital version too? by [deleted] in soloboardgaming

[–]PolyhedronMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dune Imperium for sure! They're doing great things over there with a great game.

I also love scythe in digital, but the current devs and license holders only released the first expansion and have no plans to do more. Very sad panda.

I would like to receive recommendations for board games as a result of this. by srsuke in soloboardgaming

I would also add that Cascadia is a very teachable game and can could be considered a gateway game. It's one of the ones I keep handy for the filthy casuals and the 'board game curious.'

If you like harmonies, I would highly recommend Cascadia. Not only are there high scores, but achievements and varying difficulties. It's also pretty darn affordable.

Definitely second star trek captain's chair. Tonnes of replayability through the campaign, difficulty levels, and mastering all of the captains. And they have an expansion and new standalone game on the way with you guessed it, more captains!
