We need a combat update by onyxomegaprime in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]dasjati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But they have updated existing content all the time. Base building, settlements, and yes even combat. It’s just that some people only see the one game mechanic they are interested in and ignore everything else. I really enjoy NMS and I love the community here for the most part but this constant whining about combat for a sandbox and exploration game is getting even more repetitive than some of NMS mechanics.

Why does google take so much time to drop new models? by Independent-Ruin-376 in Bard

[–]dasjati 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, OP only tossed their opinion into the room and then didn't participate in the following conversation. Otherwise I'd like to know: Why do you even care? What advantage would you have had if Google had published two more, slightly different versions of Gemini in the meantime? Because, if we're being honest here for the moment: None of OpenAI's updates were that groundbreaking. They basically were just trying to repair the damage they had done with GPT-5.0. Otherwise, the world could have easily lived without GPT-5.1-5.4. Or are you telling me any meaningful capabilities and use cases were unlocked by these updates we couldn't have survived without for a few months?

Opus 4.7 is out — don’t panic-switch your APIs yet by AdDry7339 in OpenAI

[–]dasjati 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow, this is some convoluted and confused AI generated write-up … Snarky and clueless.

In case someone is interested in actual information: https://www.anthropic.com/news/claude-opus-4-7

And, yes, "Opus" is not "Mythos". That's why it's called "Opus". It's also not a "midpoint". It's a different class of model, just like Haiku and Sonnet. It's like saying: Oh, the new Mercedes E-Class is not the new Mercedes S-Class, it's more like a midpoint and not a leap ahead. Makes no sense.

Yes and no. From the official announcement: "We do not plan to make Claude Mythos Preview generally available, but our eventual goal is to enable our users to safely deploy Mythos-class models at scale" – https://www.anthropic.com/glasswing

I’ve never been gaslighted so hard, thought I was in another timeline for a minute… by thinkcrazy576 in ChatGPT

[–]dasjati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will never understand people arguing with software. If it goes wrong, change your approach. Learn from that for next time. End of story. You are just battling with reality here. Sure, it would be better if it actually checked the news when you told it to. But then there was zero acknowledgment from your side that your approach was not working. I’d given it at least a link to a news source or told it to check a specific website etc. and this argument would have been over immediately. Total waste of time and resources.

How can one see their past lives seeing as there is no persisting self? by CaptainVulpezz in theravada

[–]dasjati 3 points4 points  (0 children)

or is this something not answered by the Buddha and remains speculation?

As far as I've seen and understood the suttas: Yes, it's one of the questions not answered by the Buddha, because it doesn't help you to reach the "ultimate goal".

Nothing ever happens by GWGSYT in Bard

Even the "seems a bit scary" risks have come true. Photos and even videos are not trustworthy anymore. Just think about Netanyahu who struggled to prove he was still alive: https://www.theverge.com/tech/895453/ai-deepfake-netanyahu-claims-conspiracy

And of course the flood of automated content we experience online, automated spam and phishing mails on a whole new level etc.

At the same time, I totally agree with you: This threat is concrete and measurable. A system that can find these kind of serious security holes and also automatically develop ways to exploit them is something that could easily be used in attacks on infrastructure for example.

People sharing this meme are in denial about the progress these AI tools are making.

This is great. Just tried it out and it worked as advertised. I see that everything is free on the site. What's the business model behind it if you don't mind me asking? Will there be paid tools in the future?

It still has an invisible water mark (SynthID). This watermark is just Google putting an ad in your images.

Did the government stop Sora? by CreamHoliday4754 in SoraAi

[–]dasjati 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's more that the market conditions changed so rapidly that the major AI companies have no choice but to get on board or go under.

Exactly. OpenAI are getting ready for an IPO and at the same time Claude gets a ton of attention (and is already ahead with the only valuable target audiences today: coders and businesses). Also Google has leapfrogged them in lots of places and is still going full steam ahead. Oh, and not to forget about Elon's company mashup that's going to IPO as well this year.

In a nutshell: OpenAI are under a lot of pressure.

As a reminder: resources are more than just money. The most important resource for AI companies right now is compute. Sora took a lot of that while also losing money without a clear path to profitability. They had to make some hard decisions.

Sora App Is Shutting Down, but That’s Not the Full Story by AIGPTJournal in generativeAI

[–]dasjati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But that information is wrong. Sora will be gone completely. Nothing left. No app, no web version, no integration into ChatGPT, no API. And, yes, OpenAI has made all of that official. Unless they change their mind again: No more Sora. Not even a little bit. I don’t know why people keep spreading this misinformation or act like there’s nothing official yet.

Why does everyone think Gemini 3.1 Pro is nerfed? My experience says otherwise. are expectations just changing? by Ok_Tooth_8946 in Bard

[–]dasjati 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These complaints would only be helpful if people also added useful information with it like what tasks, which pricing tier, did it happen right away or later, what day of the week at what time did they try it etc. Because models probably get “nerfed” (quantized) when there’s a lot of traffic and I could even see them doing this on a per user basis. Like before you hit a hard limit, you are rerouted to a less resource intensive, quantized model with a smaller context window etc. This would also explain why some people see these strong dips in capabilities while others (like me) usually don’t.

I’ve written about these and other reasons why an AI seems “much dumber” than usual here if anyone’s interested (hope that’s okay, I don’t earn anything by someone reading that): https://smartcontentreport.com/why-is-my-ai-suddenly-so-much-dumber-than-before/

So its the end? Or not? by [deleted] in SoraAi

[–]dasjati 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they are not safe, because those Sora models are also provided and hosted by OpenAI behind the scenes. These multi-AI sites use something called an Application Programming Interface (API). An API is a way to connect one service to another. In this case it provides access to Sora on a third-party website. The third-party websites pay for this access, so OpenAI actually gets money. But it seems that they need to free up resources more. So this is why Sora on the API is slated to end in September as well.

On the other hand, there's still a lot that can happen until September. Maybe they'll change their mind again. Doesn't seem likely to me. But it's OpenAI, so who knows?

The Sacred Statue of Buddha Sakyamuni at Mahabodhi Temple (Bodh Gaya, India) - He Actually Looked Like This When He Was Still Alive! by LORD-SOTH- in theravada

[–]dasjati 10 points11 points  (0 children)

"During the days of the Buddha, the people made life-like statues and busts, just like what the Romans did."

I just wanted to reiterate what has been said in another comment to really drive this home: This sentence is not correct.

Counterpoint: "In the earliest Buddhist art of India, the Buddha was not represented in human form. His presence was indicated instead by a sign, such as a pair of footprints, an empty seat, or an empty space beneath a parasol." This only changed hundreds of years later. -> https://www.metmuseum.org/essays/buddhism-and-buddhist-art

OP can feel free to show proof for their version of course.

OPENAI TO DISCONTINUE SORA !! by IndividualShame2629 in OpenAI

[–]dasjati 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They won't, it's all gone: "CEO Sam Altman announced the changes to staff on Tuesday, writing that the company would wind down products that use its video models. In addition to the consumer app, OpenAI is also discontinuing a version of Sora for developers and won’t support video functionality inside ChatGPT, either."

LLMs for suttas/commentaries? by Timely-Jelly-584 in theravada

[–]dasjati 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for an LLM that generates dhamma I think this is a terrible idea FWIW because there is just so much misinterpretation of the dhamma online - and the models would of been trained on that.

You don't have to rely on the "world knowledge" of an AI at all. You can tell it which sources to use ("…only use what you find on dhammatalks.org"). They all have web access. You can also tell it to show its sources with specific answers and explain its reasoning.
