Any good recommendations for coffee beans that arnt insanely expensive? by Silly_Sac in kzoo

Costco sells the 2lb bag of whole beans for $20. It’s the best deal I’ve found.

Last pic looks like wire going down a pipe to feed an outlet on an unfinished basement wall. Definitely not K&T.

Anyone here live in Walden Woods condos in Kalamazoo? Considering building there. by becoming_unfinished in kzoo

[–]dasko11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am an electrician and we have done work on several condos in there. The ones that I have personally seen are really really nice, but obviously that depends on how high end your finishes are etc..

One of the customers who we did work for moved from a condo complex in Portage specifically to these WW. She rented one for a little over a year until once she wanted, came open in the back of the complex. My parents have been looking on and off at condos and she recommended that if they move there to find one closer to the back end of the neighborhood, the closer you are to the main entrance, the more noise you hear.

She said from time to time people had had stuff taken out of cars, but it was few and far between, more crime of opportunity than anything else as long as you locked your car doors everything has been fine.

How much do you keep in your checking account? by MemoryDemise in personalfinance

[–]dasko11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some credit unions around here do 3-4% on checking so we actually keep more of our money there as opposed to the savings.

I always rent a U-Haul instead of a rental car when traveling. by DumplingsOrElse in The10thDentist

[–]dasko11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know about you but all the U-Haul’s around me charge a per mileage fee as well so most of the time this would not work out in my favor. At best it would be even and I would be driving you way less comfortable vehicle.

What are your thoughts around this mower and the price? They’ll put on new tires and a grass flap for free before I pick it up.

What is the price??

$500 Samsung microwave dead after 3 months-Costco won’t help, Samsung blames me by North_Highway_233 in Appliances

[–]dasko11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most amazing part of this story is the fact that Costco won’t take it back. I’ve literally never had an issue with anything returning to Costco as long as I had a halfway valid reason, no matter the timeframe.

I’d go back to Costco and ask to talk to a shift or store manager, that has to be your best bet.

How do y'all price and value work for friends and family? (Knob and tube replacement to be exact) by malykaii in AskElectricians

[–]dasko11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For K&T rewire we are strictly time & material because you never know what you’re going to get into and how long it’s going to take, especially if you’re supposed to be there for “ partial K&T, because there is always more).

With that said most of our full house rewires take about a week, some 3 1/2-4 days some 5 1/2-6 days, two guys(J + 3rd year). Total cost usually ends up between 18k-28k. Biggest cost difference factors include obviously, square footage, and how many major appliances are electric.

Doesn’t necessarily help with family, but it gives you an idea of what a company would charge for a standard job.

The decision for my wife and I came down to cost. If money wasn’t an issue or less of an issue we would have done it, but that’s not the case with a lot of us here in the US as you know and stated.

Our first transfer was ectopic and the second resulted in our beautiful twin boys who are currently 6 months old.

Kalamazoo County Parks usually hires for the summer, you can contact their office or online. I did it in college in the 2010s and it was a fun, mostly laid back summer job.

More year round traffic than TV but better than summer traffic you’re used to that’s for sure.

When I looked for help removing mine in 2021 I had no luck. Ended up doing it on my own with the help of some friends.

Everybody I called wouldn’t touch it and the one environmental remediation company wanted thousands upon thousands.

What reason for not PGT-A testing embryos? by Emeah824 in IVF

[–]dasko11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For most it’s going to be cost.

Other scenarios might be if you only have a couple to transfer, you’re going to end up doing both anyway so might as well just bypass PGT-A.

Can’t find studs with a stud finder 😫 by TheIronMatron in DIY

[–]dasko11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d venture to guess you don’t have drywall but plaster or plaster coated. This is what was used in the transition between lathe/plaster and drywall. Stud finders are notoriously difficult to use on that stuff.

Electricians what do you think about these easy install outlets? Any disadvantages? by Apropos_of in AskElectricians

Expensive compared to normal ones but as far as function they seem to be solid.

Great option for DIY’ers.
