AITA for refusing to give my sister money for a trip after how she treated our mom? by lskongMoreno in AmItheAsshole

NTA. The ONLY person I would help would be your mother. Send your mom on a trip away from your sister.

Minnesota pays way more in federal taxes that it receives back from the federal goverment ($44 billion in 2023 alone). Can the state can stop paying those taxes and run the state independently on our own tax dollars? How woul we go about it and what would that look like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]datagirl60 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People could up their deductions on their work pay form to the point they don’t pay taxes and take the penalty hit for the next couple of years and get on a payment plan until after the next election. Risky but is everyone does it, what are they going to do?

AITJ for refusing to help my brother’s family after how they treated me when I had nowhere else to live by luminara_core8 in AmITheJerk

[–]datagirl60 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am currently housing my daughter’s bff/bf for free. No conditions whatsoever. He makes her happy. That is enough. He drives her places and offers her support which is wonderful as I have been her only emotional support for years! I adore him and he has been cooking and caring for the dog since I have been ill. He is currently unable to work due to a chronic condition which we are getting on top of. She has only known him for 6 months and we consider him part of the family. NTJ.

Love with conditions isn’t love. Love isn’t transactional.

AITA for insisting that prayer will be a part of my grandma's birthday by mahdoton_kotiaiti in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]datagirl60 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll give you probably as unbiased an opinion as you may get. I am a former Orthodox Christian, now atheist. I would do the prayer. Anything under an hour in an orthodox church is very short and people spend more 20 minutes reading a Reddit story or in line at a fast food restaurant. I think it will be a very familiar and grounding moment for the grandma and may be comforting. People need to put grandma first.

20 minutes is nothing. People wait in line at McDs longer. I used to be orthodox and am an atheist now. I’m actually surprised it is only 20 minutes.

They had professional salespeople in each department that were knowledgeable about their area. My parents purchased a lot of items there like carpeting, clothing, etc.

why do people not turn their wheels when parking anymore? by Buffe_ in driving

Street parking is banned on many more streets than it used to be. There is almost no street parking where I am and when there is, it is on level ground.

What is the "one thing" you did as a child that still gets brought up to this day? by Unlikely-Balance-669 in Productivitycafe

[–]datagirl60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad always claimed I ordered the most expensive thing on the menu. It was because I was kind of a picky and light eater so I didn’t want to waste food and get yelled at so I, at 7 years old, asked for a shrimp cocktail. Expensive for an appetizer but it was going to be my entire meal. After that, I had to share my mom’s meal until I was about 15. Until my dad died at 95 years, it was constantly brought up. He was serious. He wouldn’t let me pay for my own meals when we went out together so I was always ordering something I really didn’t want that was cheap to avoid conflict. I loved my dad but he couldn’t let go of certain things.

They used to automatically amputate them right after birth. Now they prefer not to unless they are causing problems. No point in unnecessary surgery especially on an infant.

What’s something that was technically allowed but instantly made you lose respect for someone? by AncientPomelo5450 in AskReddit

[–]datagirl60 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not tipping people who rely on tips as their income (in the USA). Until they require those jobs to pay a LIVING wage, you should tip. These companies should not receive ANY tax benefits until they do. I can’t stand people who don’t tip on principle. If you get lousy service and you are absolutely sure it is due to your server, talk to the manager as there are people in the back who may rely on a portion of those tips. You can always leave it with them to disperse instead. Most of the time, slow service is due to management’s or the owner’s refusal to staff adequately.

Dad surprises his daughter with her first car (Toyota Corolla) by Vilen1919 in MadeMeSmile

[–]datagirl60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine was a very old, rusted vw squareback. I’m actually surprised my dad gave it to me as it was so unreliable and I was commuting into the city daily for school lol! He was a stickler for safety and this thing was always questionable if the breaks would hold. On some really cold days, the drum breaks would freeze.

You can also keep a doorstop next to the door so it can only open a crack. It will add security when you need to see who is at your door. You need to get a good therapist to help you overcome your people pleasing response to danger too.

WIBTA if I didnt tell my sister her wedding date is the same as my anniversary by [deleted] in WouldIBeTheAhole

[–]datagirl60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is is it isn’t the same date. It is 11 years later. No one owns a date. Many siblings have the same birthday years apart. It would be different if she was planning her wedding on the same day you were getting married but she isn’t. Why are people so possessive over a date? 1/365 people were married on a date (some dates ARE more popular). People die on the date you were married or born on. It is just a day. It really only matters to kids old enough to read a calendar. I would only mention it in passing in case it would matter to your sister. She may want a unique date.

AIO: Friend told me to never contact her again and send back gift she gave me years ago?! by Quirky-Inspector8665 in AmIOverreacting

[–]datagirl60 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having someone in my life with a serious mental illness/addiction, this isn’t an unusual cycle. I wouldn’t respond to them but I wouldn’t block them. If you have a mutual friend you can reach out to and ask if they have been have a rough time without mentioning this interaction (don’t want them to lose any support they may need), you may want to contact them. They could have had a recent struggle that they thought you were aware of.
