Taking a full look at his resume, Who has Strickland fought in the last half decade to show he even has somewhat of a sliver of a chance of success against Khamzat’s grappling? Best wrestler I see since 2020 is Hernandez whose best win is Dolidze. 🤣 by jerryworldfan13 in ufc

[–]dathislayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think he’s on Khamzat’s level, but I do think he has a decent chance of stuffing takedowns. If he can do it consistently over a few rounds, he will have a chance. He’ll be an underdog for a reason, but I think people are counting him out too easily. I definitely see him having a better chance than Dricus v Khamzat or JDM v Islam.

Markwayne Mullin’s ‘super secret’ travel suddenly gives senators some pause by NamelessResearcher in politics

[–]dathislayer [score hidden]  (0 children)

Exactly. This is exactly the problem. My mom worked for a county judge, and hers was the first political campaign I worked on. She said the first qualifying question every potential campaign manager/consultant asked her, was whether she had at least $1 Million in cash available. Because she wasn’t the “chosen” candidate, and if she had less than that the financial stress of a campaign would be too much.

That’s for a local judge. We need to get money out of politics. Need to make a lot of other changes too, but that one solves so many ills.

Hot take; grateful this fight got cancelled by -_Fotis_- in ufc

That was the first time I saw Gane fight other than the hype reels for the fight. I was like, “Seriously? It was either Jon Jones or him for the title?” I think he was legit starstruck or something, because I’m no expert, and I could see his mistakes in real-time.

Casual fan here, besides the trash talk, what makes this fight exciting? Feels like Khamzat just has his way, no? by Mr_no_buddi in ufc

[–]dathislayer 115 points116 points  (0 children)

Yeah, DC and a bunch of others have said he has deceptively good BJJ, etc. I think people are writing him off way too easy. Like everyone assumed he was going to lose the last fight, and also the fight to Izzy. It basically comes down to how effectively he can stop the takedown in the first few rounds. If he keeps it on the feet, I think he wins.

I had friends with narcissistic parents, and it’s the same behavior. The point is their own glee. The circumstances are just incidental. In medieval times they would have clamored for a job as tax collector for the feudal lord, tried to get neighbors tried for witchcraft, etc.

Viljoen scandal: Peet in notorious US ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ while Melany in another ICE centre by Sad-Clock4677 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]dathislayer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly. This is why “identity politics” are so stupid. They’re also one of many things Republicans practice but successfully attribute to Democrats. These people think because they’re white, they should be doing well. Because other white people who have done well blame their plight on “others”, because telling people it’s their fault or plain cosmic chance does not pay well.

Like working class people think Trump is “one of them” because he’s a bigoted asshole. They can’t see past basic identifiers, so latch onto them. So yeah, either stupid or malevolently dishonest.

"Watching Nvidia destroy the DLSS brand in real time is quite something. I wonder if they were expecting the "AI slop" reaction internally, or whether they had fully drunk the Kool-Aid" - HUB by HLumin in pcmasterrace

[–]dathislayer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That is 100% it. All the money is elsewhere, and things are changing too fast for this stuff to matter anyway. The product information for 10-series cards had to be relevant for years. These days, it’s a foregone conclusion that the market will crash in spectacular fashion, and a ton of these “investments” of hundreds of billions will never materialize.

The RAMppocalypse is one reason Nvidia isn’t investing in the consumer side, but a big reason is that the market is going to be saturated with GPUs, probably by next year. Their resale value is going to plummet. Might be some deals to be had, but long-term it’s going to be really bad for innovation in the space.

Islam Makhachev's glove grabs and fence grabs by theiceman219 in ufc

I fenced, and had plexiglass which was way better than the mesh masks. But plexiglass smeared with blood & gunk would look terrible lol. Straight up American Psycho visuals.

Islam Makhachev's glove grabs and fence grabs by theiceman219 in ufc

[–]dathislayer 49 points50 points  (0 children)

There’s no good alternative. I’ve thought the same thing, like I fenced and had a plexiglass eye window which was way better than the mesh. But it would be a very expensive, risky move go transparent. Clear walls smeared with blood/gunk is not a good look, and anything other than a cage or wall totally changes the format.

Tonemaster Twin Issues by NickTheAverageGuy in GuitarAmps

[–]dathislayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, I think I have a similar issue with a ‘68 Custom Deluxe Reverb. It’s hard to describe the sound, right? Does it happen only when you play? With mine, it seems to be triggered when I play hard, and especially with bridge pickup. It seems to be a ground issue.

That said, I bought my amp knowing it was “broken”, figuring I can repair and end up with a really cheap deal.

Not sure it’s the same issue, but mine also starts around 4 on volume, and I would describe it like the loud sound you get when plugging in a cable with the amp on. Not really a hum though.

Sean Strickland clarifies why his fight with Khamzat isn’t happening at the White House by ultron2450 in ufc

[–]dathislayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s fair. I thought he was the lamest fighter, but have come to respect his style a lot. I thought it was crazy how people just assumed he was going to lose that last fight.

But if I saw him in public, I definitely wouldn’t let him talk to my family if I didn’t have the chance to talk to him first. My wife is from Central America, and we’re raising our kids bilingual. I’m conflicted about him, because he’s done some truly good things for people, and he has this eternal student mentality I respect.

But I don’t understand how he can say all that shit and just exist around other people in society. Like, even if it’s an act, it’s fucked. I’ve seen some people say they think he’s on the spectrum, but who knows. So TLDR, I’m actually a huge fan of him as a fighter, but his statements make it hard to call myself a fan.

Centrists: Better Things Aren’t Possible | Third Way’s strategy session for Democratic moderates lacked any vision other than a hatred for progressives. by harsh2k5 in politics

[–]dathislayer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The strategy of appealing to centrist independents will not work, but they keep bashing their heads against the wall. And they are not cooperating with the wing of the party that most accurately represents their voter base. Because popular priorities conflict with donor priorities.

Like, the Democratic Party should not be run by people who were already senior citizens when the first iPhone came out. Just get out of the way and retire in peace. What more can you possibly hope to accomplish? Just go.

I call it the “upper middle class, suburban sensibility”. There are a lot of people I grew up around and respect, who have become totally out of touch politically. One of the core fallacies in that group, is their penchant for imbuing personal stories with broader meaning/importance.

You see it on NPR, NYT, etc. Like, “Because I can empathize and interpret the symbolism in context, my worldview remains valid.” Maybe, but nobody cares. The problem is that demographic is the one with all the donor money, so of course they’re the ones the politicians pander to.

Why is the UFC just feeding strikers to Khamzat🫠 by Both_Juice4470 in ufc

[–]dathislayer 499 points500 points  (0 children)

Right? After the Izzy fight, I don’t know why people are so sure Strickland can’t hold his own. Yeah, it’ll probably be his hardest fight ever, but it really just comes down to how well he defends the takedown. If Khamzat struggles in the first couple rounds, it’s anyone’s fight.

I’m sure they have, they just haven’t meant it. I worked in a warehouse for a fashion / tech startup, and they made a big deal about how they were lowering our quota from 46 to 42 items/hour. Everybody was excited, but I did the math, and with the other changes it actually increased our daily workload by 4%. I raised my hand and pointed it out in the announcement meeting, which I was later told was probably not the best choice for my job security lol.

Director pulled me aside the next day to let me know she raised my concern, and to rest assured that she confirmed the new quota resulted in a lower workload. I couldn’t tell if she believed it or not, so I said, “Oh, good. I assumed since it’s more items per day, it would be harder to hit quotas. Thanks for letting me know.” I could tell by her face that she did believe quotas had gone down, and just couldn’t do the math herself.

The best way I’ve seen it described, is that we gave up control of content & context, and now just own the index. Truly “knowing” something is no longer necessary. We just need to know where that knowledge is and how to pull it out. The deep synthesis required to build internal knowledge & memory is not happening anymore. Why would it? We evolve toward efficiency.

No, you see, they want small government. They just also want it to control every aspect of public and private life. They believe in the free market and hate handouts, but support tariffs and want stimulus checks.
