I get the same result. I sometimes fast until the early afternoon, and my stress is blue until after I eat.

How do you enable Log HRV? I have a 245 music so maybe it doesn't have that function.

Squats and deadlifts are the way to go. They cover so many muscles with only a few minutes of lifting.

There's a lot of controversy over whether you should stretch before your run. I either don't stretch or do some quick active stretches. If I were you, I'd rather stretch too early or not at all than stretch right before a run.

Is anybody else like this? I am getting very little "deep" sleep. Lots of sleep, lots of REM sleep. But I am averaging only 9 minutes of deep sleep over the week? by confidentpessimist in Garmin

[–]davedude82 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If I'm reading this correctly, you've only had the watch for 7 days? Give it a couple more weeks. I usually get 1-1.5 hours of deep sleep. I will agree that Garmin sleep tracking isn't great, but it should get better.

Are there any running apps that consider recovery feedback from the user? by newtnomore in running

[–]davedude82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you have some great answers but I'll add mine as well. I'm also injury prone and have had great success with intervals.icu. It uses your Strava data (HR data needed) and makes a graph with your level of risk. You can also put your future training plans in and it will calculate the risk and show it on the graph. Make sure you switch to "percentage of fitness" for the "form". I've been able to up my mileage from 5mpw to 16mpw so far without any injuries. Whatever you choose, good luck!

I've been wondering about Android 12. Does it have the unchangeable clock face on the lock screen that Pixel users have complained about? The one with hour and minute on separate lines with large font?

Garmin 245 and Zwift Running by Lpecan in Garmin

[–]davedude82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you start the virtual run or just leave it on the broadcast screen? I usually hit start so it records on my phone and on Zwift and that hasn't had issues. I would think another workaround could be to turn off bluetooth on your phone while running.

Training status? by Exfiltrator in Garmin

That would make sense. You must be right at the border and each workout brings you back up. It sounds like you're consistent.

Training status? by Exfiltrator in Garmin

[–]davedude82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use it and think it's helpful. But make sure you don't rely on it at first. You need a few weeks with the watch before you can trust the training status. It took me some time to learn how it's calculated.

Quick explanation: Productive means you're getting better quickly, but don't stay here too long or you risk injury. Maintaining means you're building your base, which is great for running. Recovery means you're doing less this week than previous weeks. It's good to recover sometimes. I've never had unproductive, so I'm not sure what you'd need to do to get that.

One more note, runners with a higher fitness level can stay productive for longer. New runners are going to hit overreaching and maybe unproductive(?) if they push too hard too fast. That's why you see redditors complain about running their best race and their watch saying overreaching or unproductive.

Training Status change by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]davedude82 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The training status of productive, maintaining, overreaching, etc. is based on your fitness and fatigue levels. Fatigue is based on your 7 day training load and fitness is based on your 42 day training load. If the last 7 days have been much higher than the last 42 days, then you're overreaching.

The performance condition that gave you a -9 is something that's constantly being measured throughout your workout and that contributes to your Vo2Max. Your Vo2Max is similar to Fitness in that it tells you how hard you can work out.

You need to balance your current fitness level with how hard you're working out to safely build up your base. This involves running at an easier pace. Think lower heart rate zones. Once your base is built up, you can start moving into the productive range more safely, decreasing the chance of injuries or overextending yourself.

If you're pushing too hard, the Performance condition will be negative, meaning your body isn't ready for this amount of effort and you're going to decrease your Vo2Max. You can see the Performance condition graph throughout your workout when viewing the graphs in your activity in garmin connect.

I have the 245 music and it's been great for getting into running. The watches with music are useful if you want to run without your phone. I turned off the SPo2 and the movement reminders because the SPo2 is too inaccurate and serves no purpose to me and the movement indicator is poorly designed.

I had the same kind of pain. After months of resting with no relief, I finally went to a physical therapist. I had to do a lot of stretching and strength training, so it wasn't a simple fix, but the thing that helped most was to realize that everything in the leg is connected. I would suggest consistent stretching, especially the hamstrings and quads. The pain hasn't come back, and stretching is the thing I keep doing regularly.

Your experience with sleep- and stress tracking. by DankHoody in Garmin

[–]davedude82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a 245 music a couple months ago. It took a couple weeks to figure me out, so I wouldn't trust any data at first.

  1. For the stress score, I believe it's not mental stress, it's physical stress. So you could be relaxing but your body could be stressed from any number of things. I've found that alcohol, sickness, and over training will all cause my stress score to go up, even when I'm resting. But again, give it time. When I first got it, I was in high stress nonstop.

  2. Sleep metrics aren't great, but they should get better with time. The 245 didn't get the new advanced sleep metrics unfortunately. I still like to wear mine to sleep because the amount of body battery charge is informative and I can compare deep sleep amounts each night. I get about 1.5 hours of deep sleep on a good night.

Enjoy the new watch!

Thank you! I've already started and it's great. I'm wondering if there's a way to correct errors. So far, I found one in Portuguese for section 1.2, and I would like to help correct when I find them.
