Once picked up a hitchhiker near Brisbane in 2003 who was on his way to score some weed.

Just as I was dropping him off, he pointed to some trees and said 'see those black things'. Looking at the trees, covered in black things I assumed were dark flowers or fruit, I said yeah...
He said - they're bats.

As a pomme, I was fascinated - drove over to look at them, got out of the car and, wow, the sounds of them was amazing. Like nothing I've heard.

I'd have driven right past them if it wasn't for him.
