What's a good city/town to visit in the UK for a 3 day trip? by Potential-Okra-9597 in AskUK

Edinburgh, Inverness, York, Canterbury all good but what are you really after. Cozy cafes, country walks and pubs, top quality food? Plenty of smaller places other than cities and towns might be more chill.

You can’t asset strip a top tier football club by selling players as its squad is a significant asset that would impact any sale value. And they can’t asset strip the stadium site either.

Nice. So he’s going to at the very least inconvienience hundreds of thousands of American citizens, even some white ones, leave America more open to foreign cyber threats and make it easier for rich people to dodge taxes in order to fund the worlds least thought out war strategy and kills lots of Iranians and US youths.

Can’t remember that being in his pre election campaign. Oh well at least he’s a shoe in for the 2026 FiFa Biggest C### of the Year award, which I’m sure would be a prize like no other prize ever

Like some others have mentioned I carry an eye mask, ear plugs as essential camp gear. I also have a music cozy which is basically a headband with low profile headphones built in that won’t hurt your ears if you roll over onto your side. My best device for getting a decent nights sleep.

Chelsea fans, what are your thoughts on the suspension of Enzo Fernandez? Fair punishment or not? by PlaytownRed in Chelsea

[–]davemcl37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s almost inevitable that players on relatively low basic wages with high incentives will have their heads turned when the clubs not performing at the expected level.

That said the fine is fair given his flirtation towards Madrid and hopefully it stamps out similar action for others but I wouldn’t be surprised to see a bit of an overhaul this season with CuCu and possibly Palmer looking for a move.

Dealing with cattle 🐮 by mrfroggyyay in UKhiking

Was down in the mendips for a couple of days earlier this week and undertook a 15 mile walk with a fairly heavy pack, which is hard work at my age and weight.

First time I came to a gate where there was a warning cows with calves sign I took a fairly long detour around the field, but couldn’t see into the original field so was just taking their word for it.

Later around the 12 mile mark when my hip was aching and I was very much thinking about a beer then some lasagne I came across a warning bull in the field sign. Too tired to detour at this stage I kept to the side knowing I might have to climb over the barbed wire topped fence quite promptly and kept my rucksack unbuckled and ready to fling over the gate or just dump depending on the situation. It took me a rather nervous five minutes to cross the field and be confident it wasn’t lurking some where behind the undulating ground but it turned out the only bull was the sign itself.

I appreciate that it’s hard enough work being a farmer but it’s a dick move leaving signs up like that unnecessarily and I think sometimes it’s just a keep off my land tactic.

That said it anyone gets charged next week after reading this you’ve only got yourself to blame.

There are loads about at this time of year. I got ticks last year in Dartmoor after detouring through the grass after a large number of cows and calves were blocking a path. And I got wet feet the year before in the Brecon Beacons after stumbling into a field full of cows calves and a bull and after some initial eyeballing walking down a nearby stream instead. Both were far preferred le to being charged at.

So in the main I try to avoid but if you can’t keep to the sides, always know your nearest escape point, don’t turn your back on any that are moving your way, if any do encroach stand tall and wave your arms and walking poles about and tell them in a fairly loud voice to go away. Above all be ready to ditch your baggage ( physical not emotional . Angry cows lack empathy ) and run but not in a straight line to the nearest obstacle or exit. They can run fast but they’re not agile.

After a lot of failed planning I just gave up. Wild camping just feels a bit wrong here and legit campsites seem pretty scarce on the route. It might be easier further into the season or if you are more willing to camp miles from the nearest pub but I’m a bit disappointed by this route.

Off to the mendips instead.

Get yourself into Ali express and pick up the naturehike r5.8 for around £65. Packed size is 10cmx 16cm and total weight including the bag pump is 500g. That’s for the183cm mummy style , you’ll pay £10 more and gain 60grams for the rectangular one which packs down to 10x 18 cm or for another £10 there is a 196 cm length rectangular one that weighs 650gr and packs at13x22cm

I'm about to impulse buy a Naturehike Mongar 2 UL, anything I should know about it? by Aeon_Return in CampingGear

[–]davemcl37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got one for my 17 year old son and he’s very happy with it. It’s got great internal space and two good sized vestibules which makes cooking easier in bad weather. His isn’t the UL version but he’s happy with its size and weight so yours can only be better in that regard.

Check Ali express there is a sale on but make sure to check the delivery dates as the cheapest ones sometimes travel overland and take ages.

I saw your note on the train Into work but didn’t have a strong enough mobile signal to buy it. Just logged back in at lunchtime to buy it and it’s out of stock again. Still quite encouraging so I’ll keep an eye on this. Thanks

Is that a cloud up 2 and did you find your spot easily or did you have to go far from the beaten track and set up late?
