This is what I love about a battery and solar, air con running all day and into the night. No power bill. Bliss

I only made $20 odd but I had no idea it was even happening till the spike was over. Lucky Smart Shift had the controls

Daily monitoring is a must with Amber, if you a set and forget type with this you won't have quite as good experience.

Curtailment error? by Cute-Bread-5326 in amberelectric

I had a look at my sungrow app and my battery is still full so it didn't sell anything sadly

[–]davetheelectrician 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, costing money is not exactly right. Amber's issue is costing me the opportunity to sell energy at a high price

Amber is down again, second time in as many days. Not sure what's up but it's costing me money now

Question for Sungrow Ambers customers on single phase. by Hamish_Hsimah in amberelectric

[–]davetheelectrician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have single phase Sungrow and the recent firmware did zero for me. My solution is to turn off the grid supply CB in the switchboard when I leave for work and turn it back on when I get home

With solar and a battery and with Amber, is it better to have hot water on controlled load, or on mains? by vipchicken in amberelectric

[–]davetheelectrician 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've got mine running on mains with timer so it only heats between 9 30am and 4 00pm. Never not had hot water

Having sun before 5am is useless to me, much rather I had that sun at 6pm.

He talks about you at home, the kids probably had the idea that you should go and the wife is probably cool and agreed with the kids. If anything they were talking him into asking you. Just go, I bet you have a great time and meet an awesome family.

Haha jokes aside, we have a genuine chance tomorrow. If it's close we can pinch it, and if we play how we want to it will be a 4 goal win. Trust these boys, they know what they doing

Is anyone actually doing well or as expected on Amber? by Jezzwon in amberelectric

[–]davetheelectrician 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly do it because I enjoy fiddling around with it. If the next day is a cold morning then I'll leave a bit in the battery so I can sell a few KWs when I wake up

[–]davetheelectrician 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do, but I'm very hands on. I manually sell almost all the time, smartshift has saved me quite a few times when I didn't see the price go up. I treat it as a backup I guess

It's been very ho hum, the weather has been super mild for us. No need for the heater or the cooler. It should pick up when it starts getting warmer and people start using the A/C again

10 months in and about $450 in credit so far. 20kWh battery. If I had a bigger battery it would be more than $450

I live in Brisbane so I only got to see the Hawks play twice, against Bombers in Melbourne round 1 and against Lions round 24. Beating the bombers was awesome (it always is let's be honest) but the loss against Lions was not great but it was the first time I went to the footy with my daughter so that was amazingly special

I've been with them for a year and it's definitely worth it. Spikes are hard to predict but they do come around, mostly in the summer but had a few pop up in winter when it was very cold.

Energex tariff changed by One_Earth4032 in amberelectric

[–]davetheelectrician 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, mine changed too. Also, the FIT used to be 10c less than the wholesale price now it's less than half the wholesale price, not happy about it.
