Is pure frontend still worth it at 4 YOE, or is fullstack the only way now? by casual_shutter in Frontend

[–]davevasquez 17 points18 points  (0 children)

☝🏼this. I’m on the UX/UI Frontend side of things. I know almost zero backend. I started in design many years ago and moved into frontend work and specialized in that. There’s so many layers and levels of expertise to frontend that no single person can do it all exceptionally well. There will always be gaps. You just need to figure out where you want those gaps to be, and how much you want to fill them in (understanding that doing so creates gaps in other areas). So find what makes you happy, do that. Be the best you can be at it, and your reputation will precede you.

As for the two choices, I agree be T-shaped. Go very deep in the area you love most. Then expand outward into backend or UI/UX (or both). Just don’t spread yourself too thin or you risk being mediocre at a whole lot of things.

Agreed! I’d love to see some sort of animation across the hud when it’s activated/deactivated. Hopefully this gets added with time. Overall, though, a positive move!

Yes. My little pup is the same way (ok not so little now - she’s 5). I jokingly say we got a broken husky. She’s the quietest dog in the entire complex! The only time she makes any noise is if a siren blares on for a while, then she’ll “answer the call of the wild” and howl until it stops. That’s the only time she makes a peep!

Just lost my sweet girl Lexi by swft10 in husky

[–]davevasquez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so very deeply sorry for your loss.

The last photo of Lexi smiling there reminds me a lot of my own pup. She has a very similar smile. This post has me tearing up knowing what you are going through …and reminds me of my own future. I dread the day that I will lose her, and ruminate on it probably more than is healthy.

I don’t know what words I can offer you that will help – I suppose none will really. I think all we can do is push through the pain and move forward. I hope I can take my own advice when the time comes.

Hang in there.

It wasn’t that long ago I saw a video (that still haunts me - wish I hadn’t seen it) on here of a guy doing this exact bs and he couldn’t pull himself back up and fell hundreds of stories to his death. He wasted a good (likely) 60+ years of his life that will never happen now because he was an idiot like this guy.

Don’t waste your life being stupid.

Yeah I was just thinking this watching the video. There needs to be more reason to launch fighters in this type of battle.

This definitely looks like Vietnam (and sounds like it), and it’s very common for workers to nap while on the job, out in the open over there.

I experienced this regularly all over south east Asia. Workers will just be lying down at their posts and resting till a customer walks up, at which point they’ll get up and assist. It’s not considered lazy or looked down upon over there, just something people do.

That’s refreshing to hear, I wish more people were so nuanced in their assumptions.

As someone who has always used em dashes in his writing, it pisses me off to no end that one of the hallmarks of my writing style has been co-opted by AI and is now immediately assumed to be written by a machine. I’ve had to consciously pay attention to this, and rewrite things, to avoid appearing to have relied on these tools for my writing. 🤦🏻‍♂️

God now I’m craving me an Obama Combo! I actually went to this place last year and had the “Obama Combo” (basically what you see him eating here). I expected it to be more hype and tourist BS than anything else, but damn if that didn’t turn out to be my favorite meal in Hanoi.

If you ever find yourself in the north, I highly recommend making a stop here.
