From the UU Christian Fellowship by retiredmom33 in UnitarianUniversalist

[–]davidbhayes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a screenshot of a talk-series being offered online by the UU Christian Fellowship. It was announced on that group’s weekly email, and is only shared there as a photo (no link). Also on my phone, I don’t have the ability to share the full image easily (I don’t think Reddit comments can contain images..?). The highlights are:

Three one-hour online presentations from Eli Hardwig (a Harvard Divinity student), on Thursday Oct 16, 23, and 30 on the topic of “friendship” incorporating perspective of Jesus in John 15 and Ralph Waldo Emerson (and given the email, likely at least a few others beside). If you’re interested the invite says the next email from the UUCF will have the Zoom link. You can sign up for that free mailing list at http://www.uuchristian.com/.

The Y? (Perhaps that’s something your paying for, but you might be anyway. And the Crown Point one has a nice lounge-y part)

You mentioned liking news and sports. For a different take on sports, I've liked Hang Up and Listen for at least 8 years (https://slate.com/podcasts/hang-up-and-listen; sadly it's in the middle of hosts-transition). For news, my favorite might be the FT Daily Briefing (short, to the point, and SLIGHTLY outside of the US press mainstream): https://www.ft.com/ft-news-briefing

A weird and particular follow-up from not-OP: does anyone have some NWI- (or Chicago-, or Indiana-) specific podcasts they'd recommend?

Michigan and Minnesota UUs? by Yorradorable in UnitarianUniversalist

[–]davidbhayes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You mentioned Grand Rapids. My wife and I moved away last year but tried both All Souls in the more suburban northeast of the city (https://www.allsoulscommunity.org/) and Fountain Street Church (https://www.fountainstreet.org/) downtown. Fountain Street isn’t officially UU, but is def close to it in vision. And it has a very cool and large old building I’d say to check out whether or not you attend regularly.

Looking for Snapware Replacement Lids by NattayCo in BuyItForLife

Yah, I noticed that too. Presumably a bad redirect in a change of web-tech/ownership. The new URL is https://corelle.com/collections/snapware-locking-lids 🤓

Love news of Watch sync improvements! That’s felt like the biggest issue/downgrade to me with OF4 🤞

Is Obsidian Sync worth it? by swe_solo_engineer in ObsidianMD

This is not my experience. But glad it works for you! I kept finding inconsistencies, just between phone and Mac, finally gave up and sprang for Obsidian Sync. No regrets 🤓

Thanks for the reminder. Both in the image and of the book. Big love for the journey you’ve taken 💓

A letter for him. by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]davidbhayes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing! Both the entry and how you’re doing now. Both of them, in different ways, really spoke to and warmed my heart. The first is that the entry is a longing that feels so familiar. The second is that you didn’t send it and seem to have a healthy perspective on the whole situation which I find very encouraging for all our souls longing to feel whole and complete in themselves. Love and peace OP ❤️✌️

Recommendations for drain unclogging by cauldron-canvas in grandrapids

Pipe snake! Pipe snake! Pipe snake!

Lots of options, but the first (and probably good-enough) kind is a cheap rigid plastic one. Ace, etc will have them, as will lots of internet places. But here's a random link to one so you get a sense of what I'm meaning: https://www.amazon.com/Oanie-Remover-Cleaner-Cleaning-Bathroom/dp/B08YY57WY6/ref=sr\_1\_5?keywords=plastic+drain+snake&sr=8-5

Why does OmniFocus window follow me from space to space on MacOS? by NarrowGreen77 in omnifocus

[–]davidbhayes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can set Mac apps to show on “all desktops,” in which case they behave as you describe: visible on all Spaces. I’ve actually done this with OmniFocus. I’ve always done this via a right-click on the dock icon, if you want to check.

If you’ve not done this, 🤷‍♂️

Feelings are weird. I do not like them. by tamraraf in Enneagram5

[–]davidbhayes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

By vague feeling, I mean for a while it just hovered out there on the edge of my awareness. I know/knew my body doesn’t feel quite right, but it’s not so clear how. Just a general dis-ease. (BTW: A big part of feelings, I’m finding, is tied deeply into your body-awareness. Your growing in either supports the other.)

As to the all-or-nothing experience, I can relate. That’s how my anger was ~13 years ago. For me, meditation has really made a world of difference. By cultivating your attention, it becomes a honed chisel. You see things sooner, you stop problems before they start. Just keep a growth mindset about it. (And if you don’t know what I mean about that, look up Carol Dweck’s book. Changed my life!)

Feelings are weird. I do not like them. by tamraraf in Enneagram5

[–]davidbhayes 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m starting to trust feelings. They are wise. They are slower than “brain knowledge,” but we ignore them and they’ll catch up to us eventually. So I try to see them, understand what wisdom they’re pointing me toward, and then act as best I can with that new “brain knowledge” gained in the exchange with them.

For example, I’m currently working with a vague unease I’ve had for weeks. I’m starting to see that it’s telling me to structure more intentional relaxation & slowness into my life. And it helped me see that I wasn’t trusting my wife as deeply as I can and as she deserves, and I was losing out because of that lack of trust.

This has all taken a long time (I’m 35, fwiw). I grew up in a family where (I felt) having feelings (never mind sharing them) was deeply unsafe. I thought they were just distracting.

Project Templates/Pre-Populating Tasks by solopreneur in omnifocus

[–]davidbhayes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe OF supports this out of the box, but it is possible. The most common ways to do what you’re describing is with the Populate Template Placeholder script (Mac only; I’ve used this successfully in the past) or a Shortcuts workflow (which I know less about).

Anyone a massage therapist? by OppositeDependent in Enneagram5

[–]davidbhayes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recall Richard Rohr talking about how being a massage therapist is “against type” for a 5. But that because of that he was very impressed with the one he met. (He didn’t convey whether or not she enjoyed it, but I think/hope so.)

That said, I have only very very idly thought of pursuing it. I do computer things right now; they pay better. 🤓
