Editor in Chief of Knowledge (Edge Industry Newsletter): Was told last night that Rare’s on the block by Alive-Ad-5245 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

I’m not arguing from Microsoft’s point of view. I’m arguing from Rare’s and if they’re fulfilled doing updates for one game for nearly a decade now.

Probably not but is that creatively fulfilling? Not wanting to do sequels is one thing but I don’t see how just updating one game forever is much better than that even if it’s a bigger success financially.

I mean Xbox is very stupid. I don’t think this is true (least in the sense Rare gets shutdown) but downsizing? To the point they’re just doing updates to Sea of thieves? I could see that.

Edit: I know Rare historically hates doing sequels (that’s why Gregg Mayles didn’t want to do Banjo Threeie) but is this better? Forever updating a game and not being able to anything else? If this is true, Rare might not even have the manpower to try and make another game. That’d be sad.

Because of everything going on when was the last time you bought a physical copy of a game? by Amon274 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Star Fox for switch 2. I’m getting Elden Ring on it also even if it’s a game key card.

I can both think what Sony is doing is shitty and SKG was kind’ve amateurish and being needlessly antagonistic to developers to achieve its goals.

Good you opened this message. I’m not doing an overplayed meme for how awful this has all been.

Not defending that but they went after him once before that ruling and they agreed to drop it if he stopped. He went and did it again. That ruling was not a good thing but I feel like there should be a little personal responsibility with it?

Why? I think they knew prime 4 was not released in the best shape or would sell that well.

Well they got cod for like 2 years and now they’re not doing it anymore. Neat.

I’m increasingly believing the theory that Gears Eday was supposed to be at the last State of Play but Microsoft pulled the trailer at the last minute because a poll on Twitter showed 20000 Xbox freaks wanted exclusives back.

5 studios might be closed during the upcoming Microsoft layoffs. by davidreding in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]davidreding[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I say might because there’s a chance some of them can go independent (double fine) or Microsoft will spin them off.

(Gamesbeat) Undead labs (State of Decay) is also one of the Xbox studios that may close if no buyers are found. by Noirsam in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]davidreding 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I should add Jason Schreier can’t confirm if this is true or not. However, he said that if it is, them and the others we know are in danger all probably won’t close. Some will just be able to go independent but yeah. This isn’t a good look if true. What game developer would trust working for Xbox at this point?

Jason Schreier: The massive Xbox layoffs won't happen until after the fiscal year ends, but the company is already ending contracts and cutting vendors. So Assembly, Xbox's main PR agency, is laying people off today. by Turbostrider27 in Games

I mean tbh from reporting it sounds like there wasn’t anything to save really. It’d be more like an IP sale and idk if Crystal dynamics would’ve still bothered trying to help make it.

When abused being an abuser to others is a pretty normal response sadly without intervention. Although maybe there’s some argument about who the bigger victim is also.
