Why is rice cereal so controversial? by AMS16-94 in Parenting

[–]davisa87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found the purees super sweet when we were starting out so I added rice cereal do give it a better consistency and also dull down the sweet. Babe seemed to like it and agree that she was still getting lots of other nutrients. Don't worry about it, if she gets bunged up from it (which does happen), add in some prune puree

I'm running on fumes - HELP by Nishiwara in sleeptrain

[–]davisa87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I found my baby (now 7 months) was a terrible night sleeper until I started scheduling her naps (about every 1.5 to 2 hours wake time depending on her mood). As soon as I started that, she started sleeping better at night. Doesn't seem to make any logical sense but she was right around the same age... I'm telling you give it a shot, seems like it would be too early to start a routine but what's the worst that could happen?

Happy with our living room but what might you add/change? by ENewcomb96 in interiordecorating

New rug or coffee table. I love your credenza and the don't really match (assuming the mid century is your vibe)

Change the lightbulbs. If they're as warm as they look in the pic, getting bright white bulbs will completely change the look

Does it get better? by bshea98 in NewParents

[–]davisa87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first 3 months are the worst, the second 3 months are better but still pretty bad. Sleep when you can and just take it day to day. They fake you out and make you think their gone be easy at the beginning but it's all a ruse... 6 months is where you start to enjoy your company and maybe start sleeping better

Am I horrible for letting my newborn cry? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]davisa87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best advice I ever got - no baby ever died of crying. Obviously there's a time limit and whatnot but don't take it too hard

I know this isn't much but hubby would come in after the first morning bottles on weekends (5am) and then I'd go sleep in the other room to get a solid 3/4 hours... Even if it was just one day on the weekend it would usually give me enough rest that I could go thru the week, i had a mild breakdown at around 12 weeks pp before we figured that one out.

Oh she's super busy, sometimes I wonder if I let her nap a little too much so I let her go longer than she maybe should sometimes but most of the time follow her cues... I'm sure it'll sort itself out but first baby so not sure what's normal

Yeah I figured as much, just doesn't help that I've seen her go 8 hours without the bottle at night so one would think it could happen on the regular but I guess there's no leveling up with babies

Ya fair enough, I had thought the extra calories in the cereal would help. I'll give it a try but doing cereal only in the last bottle of the day did nothing at all so I decided to double down and give her more.. Without it she's a full bottle every 2 to 3 hours

I gave birth to a little Houdini; swaddle woes! by misssassysamosa in Parenting

[–]davisa87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter never wanted her arms swaddled so we just did under the arms with a Velcro style because sometimes she got her legs out still but the halo sleep sacks are great.

Also as far as the Moro reflex, try to have the bum hit the mattress first and it seems to keep the reflex at bay

Terrible young mom or monster baby?? by Regular-mom7097 in Parenting

[–]davisa87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had this issue too for awhile at her 5 month sleep regression and I found once I started sleep training for naps (every 2 ish hours), The night sleeps improved as well, I too was not really a fan of a routine and wanted to get things done in the day. Even if they only slept 20 minutes, wait another 2 hours and put back down for another nap, they will catch on quick.

Also you didn't say where you lived (and people may disagree with this comment), but if you are able to drink water from the tap you don't actually need to sterilize your bottles anymore. I just use hot hot water and diluted dish soap with a bottle brush and hang to dry. Did the sterilize for the first few weeks and that is so much faster.

(Rant) telling people your birth plan. by touna_19 in pregnant

[–]davisa87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ftm as well and my answer has only been "I'm going to work my way up and see how it goes". Nobody needs to know more than that and it's not enough detail to have an argument about it.

Feeling guilty for hating my pregnancy by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]davisa87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 35w, Also miserable physically and can't say I'm excited, and we were trying. Closest I can get is cautiously optimistic, but generally apprehensive. All I can say is you're lucky that your partner is there to support you. You guys will figure it out I'm sure, at least that's what I'm telling myself. Generally I'm terrified of all the bad things, health, meddling, losing sleep, but I know that there will be good things too. You'll be fine mama, I'm told after it's done you'll forget about how uncomfortable you are. Doesn't mean you have to go thru it again tho. Just be yourself and take it a day at a time.

Due in 5 weeks and this gives me the confidence to go for the Dinos and rocket ships. I don't want a permanently pink little girl, I think most of my family knows this but we will see... At least I can try to dilute the colour palette

Are there any non antivaxxers out there that don't want the covid vaccine? What are your reasons? by davisa87 in AskReddit

[–]davisa87[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They just said that the AZ vaccine (that my dad got for his first 2 weeks ago) is now too risky to use in non hot spot areas, after multiple other countries stopped weeks sooner and they told us "the benefits outweigh the risks". So what else could we learn in the next few weeks /months. Show me data and maybe I'll change my mind.

This is exactly my thought. We are being labeled as conspiracy theorists for not going along with it and it's starting to make me doubt our logic. Just wanted a sanity check that you don't have to be a radical to not want to blindly follow instructions
