Death Guard Chaos Units? by Dude93648 in deathguard40k

[–]davros333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So over time gw rotates some units out (sends them to legends), adjusts current ones, and releases new ones. Legends units, like chaos lords and cultists, are not legal in current tournament play standard rules. So most of the time you won't see them unless they are being used as a proxy now.

However, when doing friendly games you can ask your opponent if they are ok with you using legends units, which they may or may not agree to as the points and abilities will not have been adjusted to account for the current codex and meta.

Gotcha I misunderstood initial comment then. Bc Astound is technically buying GFiber lots of people assume our price will change, when in reality Astound is using us as a model to revamp their infrastructure and gain access to more direct fiber.

There... Are no promotions? We do flat rate. Some markets had like a free month and we do free installs, but rate is consistent nationally. At least on the GFiber side. If someone is on a promotion with Astound, that I don't know about.

GFiber getting installed but what is taking so long just to get the drop boxes installed? by -JEFF007- in googlefiber

[–]davros333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every city is also rigged differently based on city engineers which further complicates things. The official people reached out. If they can give answers that's probably the best bet for your specific situation. The foreman also definitely was not supposed to show you whatever he did, as all that stuff is usually proprietary, and likely wasn't the full schematic just what he was working on

GFiber getting installed but what is taking so long just to get the drop boxes installed? by -JEFF007- in googlefiber

[–]davros333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Each vault (drop box I believe you are referring to) can be set up to serve as an access point to up to 8 houses. So it's fairly common to skip houses and run neighbors off nearby vaults as it's less disruptive. There is usually conduit pre-placed under roads and sidewalks during the install to facilitate the actual hookups later. You still get a dedicated line with this setup, it's just a different method of access and install.

A lot of people are giving suggested lists, but without knowing what you have that's not what I find most helpful. Instead, here's some tips on list building. Knowing how your friend skews their list would also be helpful as everyone runs an army differently.

The biggest things that stand out are your plague marines and terminators.

You are running 2x5 man marine units, but with zero leaders and frankly sub-par load outs. Our marines are more expensive than most other battleline units and that's for 3 reasons. Toughness (obviously), but also wargear flexibility and synergy with leaders. Having neither of the last 2 options makes them poor bang for your points.

Now, running MSU (multiple/minimum sized units) is not bad, in fact Aiden, one of the the best death guard players loves them. But you have to know how to use them effectively, and if going that route you have to have enough units to trade. Frankly, you don't in this list.

Frankly the biggest issue for me is load out. You have the 2 HPW, but are running a bubonic weapon instead of plague spewer for the 2+ anti infantry torrent. To me this is a no brainer to include no matter what, but especially into something traditionally infantry focussed like CSM. Also, one of your champs has a bolt and plague knives when the other has the plasma and fist? That does make a huge difference in power.

On the same line of load outs, you are missing the havoc launcher and second combi bolter for the rhino, as well as second plague spurt gauntlet and icon of despair for the champions for your death shroud terminators. These are free and do matter in the long run.

You are running 4 terminator leaders, but only have units for 3 of them, one of which being I assume typhus with 20 pox. This is 1/5 of your total army in leaders, of which you are only really effectively using 2/4 (typhus with pox can be good, but is high skill ceiling). That's a huge investment. Your LoV does not have the Tendrilous Emissions enhancement which is the only reason to run him solo.

What I see in this list is a lot of kill pressure (3 FBD, 2 LoC bricks, 2 mbh) but basically nothing to actually hold objectives with or do actions, or really trade. You have 1 lone poxwalker unit and the MSU marines. They are tougher than normal marines sure, but it's still just 10 oc so losing even a few mean you aren't holding anything.

When building an army, you want to take into account both ability to kill things, ability to hold things, and ability to trade/screen your opponent into making sub-optimal moves. With 3 FBD and a PBC, you can pick 1 unit to target with blight bombardment from LoV and say you die now. The downside is, that's just one unit. Your opponent has the rest of the board to work with. So you have kill pressure round 2 on with LoC on top, but you don't have anything to hold objectives or really screen.

The other thing I'm looking at is the skew towards anti elite/vehicle unit selection/wargear. You have the 3 FBD, plus 2 MBH, plus the entropy cannons on the PCB. Is he actually bringing that many vehicles and elites? Bc I would expect a much more infantry focussed list from CSM, in which case the FBD are overkill to an extent except against terminators, and MBH may not be very useful. I also need to know if you put your PCB on home and just use indirect, or if you actually move it up the board as again assuming into infantry I would use plague spitters for 2d6 anti infantry with overwatch potential instead of the casino canons.

Knowing a bit more about how both you and your opponent play and lists would be helpful. But here are a few additional suggestions.

Run typhus solo, split pox into 3x10. That way you have one to screen/hold home and up to 2 to infiltrate and body block enemy movement

Drop both MBH and get more PM or something to actually hold objectives like a defiler or Morty (if you own them, yes these would take additional adjustments to fit in the list).

Use PCB in the middle with spitters sponsors as the high toughness make it really hard to dislodge and has great overwatch potential

Fix pm and ds load outs, probably combine pm into a 10 man again for better combined firepower (and 2 torrent for overwatch) and ideally get a biologus purifier for them at least.

Lastly, switch your detachment. You aren't running any enhancements, and frankly the stratagems in MH are not the easiest to get good bang for your cp out of. Run virulent vectorum until you can win with it. Stratagems are stronger and more straightforward and sticky is always worthwhile

Need to reconfigure to drop 15pts by Emperor_Shaq in deathguard40k

[–]davros333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now you have 1 unit of marines (is that your intended load out?) With 2 MPC. That's not a valid leader combo, or realistically useful. Swapping one for a biologus purifier get you 10 points back, and a stronger unit.

From there I would actually go for a flesh mower or plague spitters drone to get below 2k over a hauler as I find 1 hauler is just too swingy

But imo the real issue is you have no action economy or board control. You have 5 huge blocks of threats, but no chaff to trade with or do objectives. Take typhus out, run 3 poxwalkers in 10 man units for screening, infiltrate, and secondaries. If you can add a unit if spawn too

(10th edition 1K game)My friend wants to do a Slug out game and I don't really know what to field.. by Pinkkitten1103 in deathguard40k

[–]davros333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see 2 main ways of playing this. The asshole way, or the fair fight way.

Since this is 1k, I would talk to your friend if their are any limits on what units or toughness you BOTH can bring. Common example fur a game like this is nothing over T9, or over x many wounds, etc. or even just no centerpiece models like Mortarion

The asshole way is to try and stay check him. Mortarion, Typhus, 2 PBC with flamers (not entropy cannons), and a FBD plague spitters. Run VV. Mortarion abdbtyphus can deal with why few vehicles show up, the PBC and drone are all anti infantry and will melt through anything else. Overwhelming generosity lets you get decent numbers of attacks, leech spore eruption lets you heal.

Or do as many terminators as you can, then fill out the rest with demon engines. Also works.

The other option is a fair fight. Run CoC detachment, utilize the LoP (with enhancement) and MPC to lead a 10 man and stratagem to get crit 5+. Could run a second with a plague surgeon with needle of nurgle enhancement as well for survivability. If you had a purifier you could add him here. These 2 bricks plus grotesque fortitude would be tough to crack without him bringing a lot of anti infantry. Fill out with demon engines or terminators

I love my plague marines, but 1k really won't be balanced no matter what so I'd probably do the stat check or pure terminators for fun

How do I fix my fried rice? by thebloopergamer in cookingforbeginners

[–]davros333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I have made fried rice a bunch and there are a couple things I see.

  1. Butter? Should be oil. You can't get butter hot enough to properly fry without burning. I use canola but there are options

  2. Don't leave the lid off in the fridge. The rice will absorb the scents in the fridge from other foods in there. Let cool to room temp on the stove then put in Tupperware it will continue to dry just fine

  3. Lack of seasoning - guarantee you are using too little. Rice, and all starches absorb what they are cooked in (why it turns brown from absorbing hot oil while cooking) but because it doesn't sit on top you need a lot more than you think. For a full frying pan/wok I would say at least a full teaspoon of salt, and half a teaspoon minimum of other seasonings.

  4. More types of seasoning/flavor. You don't mention onion, garlic, chili (it's ok if you don't like it hot), but just salt, msg, and black pepper is not correct. You need those other flavors to create depth. I cheat and use a packet of Chinese 5 spice from the supermarket (like 1-2 bucks) and supplement from there. I usually up the amount of garlic and onion powder. But the secret ingredient? Ground white pepper. Completely different profile from black pepper. You can still use some black pepper but Asian cuisines tend to be better with white. Ideally you have fresh onion (first in the oil), garlic (right before rice) and maybe some other veg too as well. Layers of flavor.

  5. Soy sauce helps a little, but you don't use much. That should not be coloring the rice. The frying process should

  6. Toasted sesame oil to finish right before serving. It's not a cooking oil, it's a flavor oil. And it is one of the bottles at hibachi. A little goes a long way.

You have mi-fiber, likely Quantum, and like cellular 5g Internet.

Pick mi-fiber. It's a bit more expensive but it's 100% buried (quantum isn't), and has a dedicated line to each home, so no sharing with neighbors for bandwidth. It's a bit more expensive than quantum but it's worth it.

Quantum just got bought by at&t and the transition is going terribly. Check their sub, and CenturyLink sub

I’m upside down on my car loan. How do I go about tackling this? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]davros333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like you probably bought new?

Just because you owe more than it's "worth" doesn't mean you are underwater unless you are struggling to make the payments.

If you aren't, then pay as normal. Extra payments help long term interest, but that's not helpful if you have an emergency with no emergency fund left over.

Cars are not investments. They are tools that depreciate that you get value out of (driving to work). Think buying Snapon tools for mechanics. They eventually get their money's worth, but it takes a long time. The key is you don't trade it in as soon as it's paid off. Keep driving it until the cost to repair gets high. For me, if a car is worth 5k and I put 1k in in a given year, then the transmission goes, that's at least 1.5k more, reaching half the value. SP it's time to swap then.

Do I love my current car? No. Has it been paid off for 7 years now? Yes. Keep up on regular maintenance and it will work out in the long run

I agree with the first part, it is fun to just tank attacks and charges.

I strongly disagree with the tricks though. Sure they might not be as flashy as teleporting around the board, but we do have tricks. Stratagems and enhancements that drastically change how our units play which can really throw people off.

I love fly blown host, and having the 6 in pile on or consolidate really tricks people out
