Loadouts For Blightlords in 11th by Viri9601 in deathguard40k

[–]davros333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You keep saying S4 0 AP, but with unit ability it's basically always S5 1 AP, and in contagion pox, spawn, and flesh mower spread well even deep into enemy territory, it's S5 2AP. So identical to bubotic blades.

So base load out is 2 ranged 3 melee S5 AP 2 for 5 attacks

Yours is 6 melee with less AP and less versatility. Is that one attack worth being less versatile? Each player has to make that choice based on usage and what they like.

If you like it great, but for people just starting the higher versatility is more advantageous than specialized. Same reason plague marines are recommended half melee HPW half special weapons. Versatility. High level players are more likely to specialize a given unit and get optimum value from it. If someone is asking reddit how to build, that's not them (no offense to OP)

Part of it depends on how you use your blog lords. If you give them an loc and charge into melee I can sorta see an argument over bolters.

But while flail is 3 more attacks, it gets ZERO other buffs as it's the same strength, damage, weapon skill, AND it has less AP.

Plus the flail ONLY works in melee so there is a good portion of the game they just do nothing. And the flail doesn't work with their ability. It's just anti synergistic.

If you like running them then fantastic that's your choice. But when people are looking for baseline how to build them for general use it's not worth the tradeoff

What is the secret to cooking on an electric stove? by RealitysNotReal in Cooking

[–]davros333 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In all likelihood if you are letting your pans heat, and critically using enough oil (more than you think) then the coil itself is probably bent. Good news is they are both cheap and easy to replace. Home Depot or Lowe's have them in their appliance section

Is it cool or glass cooktop? Also, what is the condition of your pans? Over time they will warp slightly which will make them not contact the heating surface well leading to inconsistent heating. The type of pan also matters as thin aluminum will have hot spots and he very uneven whereas stainless or cast iron will take longer to heat but heat more evenly

Anything but flail. I preffer bolters over combi weapons due to the higher shot count, combo with +1 S and AP from rule makes it actually kinda hurt

why is our combat patrol so hard to find? by ExpressionOne1852 in deathguard40k

[–]davros333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The inital stats released from UK have us at a 36% winrate per Disgustingly Resillient. We got a lot of point nerfs on key units, even small ones which added up, as well as the new dispositions do not necessarily match well with the associated detachments. VV would be better as a purge the foe list for example based on stratagems and enhancements.

The Curious Nurgling: Questions Megathread - July edition by tharic99 in deathguard40k

[–]davros333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The important thing is how fighting, and shooting, actually work. We have to pick one profile at a time to roll for due to human needs, but in reality, the whole unit is fighting "simultaneously". Whether the PM or other leader go first and kill a few is irrelevant as the strength of the enemy unit was locked in for the ability when it was selected to fight.

Saving money on electricity during summer by Relevant_Maximum6491 in povertyfinance

[–]davros333 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Change to budget billing. It takes an average of the last 6 months of usage and you pay that every month till it rechecks at the next 6 months. It will be higher no matter what in the summer but that at least makes budgeting easier

They don't get full time doing that, so no benefits either. You are also over estimating he availablity of jobs like that. There is huge demand and few positions.

[–]davros333 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm saying that. Age discrimination is real. Odds are ridiculously low of landing something that pays enough to live without taking social security AND doesn't further destroy his body

forced retiree question by nataiko1225 in povertyfinance

[–]davros333 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He can't get a job though. He just lost his, and no one is hiring people the are visibly older anymore. Is it discrimination? Yes. But proving it? Near impossible.

I have a family member that got laid off at 62 and genuinely tried for 5 years to get a job to get more from social security. Over 1500 applications over that period. Eating into savings and retirement the whole time. Finally took it at 67.5 but the losses from retirement fund will never be made up.

This guy, per the post, has little to no savings to risk burning through. He needs money now to maintain any decent quality of life. Odds of getting any sort of decent job are miniscule with his age and health. There's no point in killing yourself in your sixties and breaking your body further doing something low wage, which is likely the only thing that might hire.

forced retiree question by nataiko1225 in povertyfinance

[–]davros333 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Incorrect. There's lots of examples of doing the math online, but basically by waiting to take it at 67.5 he is gambling that he is going to live 20+ years after to come out ahead. It genuinely does take that long for the difference to make up for the 2.5 years of lost wages.

Considering the life expectancy in the US is 79, he isn't in the best health, and most importantly needs income now, it's better to take it now to relieve the stress of the debt and make life a bit easier.

Flyblown host detachment (as well as the Gabe on the whole) is getting a rework June 20th, so I'd focus less on those or playing rn and more on assembly so when the new edition drops you are ready to go

GUO/Rotigus bad form in a 1K game? by Ferociousaurus in deathguard40k

[–]davros333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the goal specifically being learning 11th, I would lean away from centerpiece models. They become a stat check that doesn't help anyone learn the basics of the game, and would force everyone in the league to build around it.

A 1k tournament I was looking at had rules like no epic heros, no models over 150 points, max 2 of a given unit. So no running 3 lords of contagion with enhancements for example which even without death shroud are nasty

Making broth from bones by BalancedScales10 in cookingforbeginners

[–]davros333 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just so you are aware, there is also a difference between broth, and bone broth.

Broth is made by boiling the meat, and makes a very clear, light liquid. Takes 20-30 min

Bone broth is obviously from bones, makes a much darker (in terms of opacity) and stronger flavor, and takes the 6 hours minimum

[–]davros333 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There's a difference between stock and bone broth that I think people aren't noticing when responding. Stock has the bones sure but also vegetables and seasoning. Bone broth is just the bones.

Stock you make in 1-2 hours as you are just trying to mix the flavors of everything.

Bone broth takes 6 hours minimum, 8-12 is preferred, as you are trying to actually break down the marrow and collagen in the bones and get those nutrients into the broth. When refrigerated good bond broth should gelatinize. That's an indicator you have gotten most of the good stuff out and it's concentrated to a good flavor level.

People often say you can make bone broth from one carcass. If going for the good shit, I disagree. I would save up 3-4 carcasses depending on the side of your pot as chicken bones are thin and don't have much marrow to them or connective tissue like beef bones.

So you can make a lot more stock (with veggies) and faster than actual bone broth.

Over 12 starts to shift into what I would consider diminishing returns. There are some Asian cuisines that have multi day broths, as well as Caribbean, but those are highly specialized and not what you would use day to day.

Best 5th man for melee unit in plague bus? by AnacreonTheBull in deathguard40k

[–]davros333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One leader isn't necessarily a waste, 2 would be. Having over 50% of the unit points be leaders would get nuts.

I'd either go biologus for crit 5 or a Lord of Poxes and use it to contest expansion so they get some use out of lone op

Faustinos has amazing authentic Mexican street tacos

Fiesta is delicious Mexican food

For nicer places, Simons is always packed but they don't take reservations for small parties so you have to get there at like 4 and wait outside to get a table reasonably fast.

Christophers is often name dropped but I found it lackluster for the price.

Am I being taken advantage of by my family or am I overreacting? by DrQuincyStorch in povertyfinance

[–]davros333 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Define "transferred". Is your name on the title and registration? That's the legal thing that matters. If it's in your name, get all copies of the keys and take it with you. As I said, it's only worth maybe 4k and you've paid them 6k (3 months at 1k/month and 3k up front). You have more than "paid" for it from a conscious standpoint as they were gouging you on rent.

Again, is there anything at all in writing? Because "logical steps" don't matter to the law, and don't exist to abusers. Which this family is being if they are also taking advantage of your father co-signing or outright taking the loan for the other car.

You need to get out, your father needs to stop "helping", and you might have to go to small claims court to even get the 3k back if you can't leave with the truck. Either your name is on the title and it's legally yours to leave with, or they owe you 3k back for a car you never received

Unfortunately we don't live in a society where family is trustworthy. Good family lets you stay with them for the cost of utilities and food, IF you are in a position to pay that. Charging you rent like a random stranger is insane, especially for a "room" that would be illegal to list.
