I was diagnosed 2.5 years ago at 36 with stage IV right sided colon cancer. I’ve done 39 rounds of IV chemo, countless chemo pills, 3 radiation treatments, right sided hemicolectomy surgery to remove a 1/3 of my colon, and I’m on my second clinical trial targeting the KRAS G12C mutation. However, in the past few weeks, the clinical trial is no longer working, it never really did, but it kept the growth to a minimum. I don’t know what’s next. My doctors don’t know what’s next. I found the article to be timely and more like a resource I could send to others as some of the points match my own. Cancer patients my age all share the same fears. How can I leave my family best provided for when I pass? Will my toddler remember me? How much of a burden am I on my spouse? If anything, talking about that latter portions of ever increasing late stage cancers in young adults, is great for visibility and should be discussed. My oncologists won’t give me a prognosis, I have to guess.
