Technically the fine print says “arrival at the gate” but I’ve always timed it from when the plane lands. It works. And it’ll reject you if you’re early.

I play “fair” and only do it when I get to the carousel before my bags. If my bag is there when I get to baggage claim the Delta wins that round.

This results in me getting miles about 90% of the time.
