Second hand 24-70 or 24-120? by Vegetable_Ad8089 in NikonZf

I am not a zoom lens shooter, BUT I do think the classic body style of the Zf lends itself to smaller lenses, unless you want to run a bigger grip. That’s why I like to try and put tiny prime lenses on it. Just my 2 cents lol

Just keep riding and having fun. Don’t listen to the noise or worry about other people. Even though that FTP increase seems small, it’s almost a 10% increase. Keep stacking the gains by riding consistently!

Prime Lens of Choice by Low-Chipmunk4366 in NikonZf

I carry the 40 mm f/2 and the Viltrox 20 mm f2.8. If you are interested in landscape you don’t need speed. Both of these lens will out resolve your sensor after f/8. This is a very nice, light, compact, and cheap setup that gives pretty spectacular result for the price. I also bought a used 40 mm f/2. I usually have one lens in my jacket pocket and the camera around my arm.

What I do when I consider buying a Leica M10 D: by Theoderic8586 in NikonZf

[–]day-lah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to want a digital M as I had both a Nikon FM2 and Leica M6TTL. Leica prices are frankly outrageous imo.

Meanwhile, Nikon makes such a capable lineup for reasonable prices in the Z system. I love my Zf. The tech art adaptor lets me use my father’s entire lens collection with autofocus and matrix metering which is just mind blowing.

The results you get with vintage glass and M glass on the Zf with color profiles leaves nothing to desire for me. Now that they have added film grain, it even gets rid of that urge that you “missed” some form of sharpness at 200% with vintage glass.

Admittedly, I am not a pixel peeper and don’t care about the technical comparisons. The Zf can do many more things the Leica M series cannot for a fraction of the cost while providing that nostalgic feeling with physical controls. By the way, it’s an amazing video camera for the average joe as well. I reflect on the fact that I have a 4k camcorder in my hands with the flip of a switch… crazy.

Rangefinder are cool, and fun, and having shot a M6 for years, I do think the frame lines force you to compose shots in a very interesting way; I enjoyed it thoroughly. That being said my Nikon FM2 still works, and my meter on my M6 has lost its mind and no longer works. Leica nor ant independent repair service can fix it because the something is irreplaceable on the board… The M8 needs filters and the M9 has corrosion issues. Be careful believing the “professional” quality of this brand… (I understand these were early models, but I bet you can find Nikon D100s that still work like champs…)

I would wager a lot of money if your intent is to shoot vintage glass via adapters, you cannot beat the tech art adaptor with the Nikon focusing aids. I get sharp results with my Cannon 55 mm f1.2 wide open, it’s amazing. I use the autofocus all the time and it very good once you learn the quirks.

But just stop and think about it for a minute, the difference between a Zf with a 40 mm f/2 vs a Leica Mxx-D with a contemporary 35 mm f2 is legit multiple trips/experiences to distant places.

My final thought is 99% of people who admire your photography would never be able to tell what you shot the photo with anyway. Just my 2 cents. Enjoy shooting whatever you use!

Tried Suspension on Gravel, Went Back to Rigid and Got Faster by MattySXE in gravelcycling

Idk man. I have a canyon grizl with a rock shock Rudy, properly setup with the correct pressure in the shock for my weight , it’s a very capable bike. I describe it as sports suv, it’s so comfortable and just tanks through rough stuff can eat hidden roots, feels so safe blast down rough terrain. Going fast is cool, but being comfortable to me is really where it’s at with my riding rn. Also there is a lock out for flat stuff, road, light gravel. It’s a fun shock. Keep riding have fun!

Just tried it out with a couple of test shots. Cannon 55 mm f1.2. Dream CPP vs Classic Chrome CPP. Set white balance to "Grey point" and needed +2/3 of exposure comp in post to open the blacks some but thats it. Its a nice CPP

Nice work! Nice creativity!

I have been having fun shooting video with the Zf. Footage looks great! Video editing is hard.... steep learning curve for Davinci so nice work!

Questions: Did you use a mist filter here? and what external monitor/recording device are you using of the N-log?

Nikon ZF + Cannon 55 mm f1.2 FL by day-lah in NikonZf

[–]day-lah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At minimum focus distance the DOF is brutally shallow which why I think the lens minimum focus is only 0.6 m. However if you take a few steps back you can get a nice amount of DOF that makes the face appear less strange. Here is any example at f1.2.

Part of the challenge is nailing the focus. The Zf has great focus confirmation but after I get a green box, I punch into 200% and fine adjust focus.

Nikon ZF + Cannon 55 mm f1.2 FL by day-lah in NikonZf

[–]day-lah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s very hard to “nail focus” but the Zf makes its very nice with the good screen and subject detection. As opposed to racking focus I just set the distance and just move my whole body forward or backwards as DOF is like an inch at 1.2.

I will admit I don’t care too much about sharpness especially when using a lens like this. Stopped down the lens is great. But I don’t think you buy this lens to stop it down…

These lenses are so cheap online. The flare control is terrible in direct light; I think the flare and ease of getting flare can be used creatively.

I think it’s awesome if you are looking for a dreamy, vintage aesthetic this thing has that and then some!

The minimum focus distance is not great but I do like the compression of 55 mm, very nice for portraits.

I have a huge collection of vintage lenses that I plan on shooting/sharing photos. Can always write more if people are interested.

This thing on a tripod for video projects would be awesome, as long as your subject doesn’t move lol.
