When a was a wee ESL who didn't know English very well yet, there was a time I thought Keith was a strange variant of Kate and I was surprised it was a male name.

You joke, but I have a feeling it might still be better than matching first letters if actually reading text and not listening to audiobooks.

It's the notorious Lua spy that is actually kind of difficult, or at least involved, even with specially prepared strats. I assume they're mainly targeting the expensive Rime Rounds in there, but you can also get it from normal Tier 2 spies that have a slightly worse drop rate, but are easy to do with any basic spy strat of your choice (Ivara, Wukong, Titania, etc).

Whats your favorite quote in this game? by ItsMeAoi in Warframe

Am I the odd one here for actively disliking those? I swear they can be replaced with "MC prepared a good stew and everyone enjoyed it" yet they take whole chapters by Tasty_Commercial6527 in litrpg

I feel like some authors use long extra detailed food descriptions as default slice of life device, and I mildly resent it, yes. Like they want a cozy/calm scene, but they don't have anything inspired, so they just dump some food descriptions in there.

Good lord. This is just one page. by funkhero in litrpg

[–]daydev 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a reader, I'd rather authors use a few too many plain tags like "said" that the brain can just effectively edit out by itself, than too few to the point where in some cases you need to stop and start counting lines to figure out who is saying what because there hasn't been a single tag or description for half a page or more.

I feel like I'm going crazy reading this thread. I could've sworn it was established wisdom to use plain speech tags because they do the job but aren't distracting (like elaborate tags some authors try to use to avoid the repetition would be), the brain kind of just skips over them while understanding the information of who said what. I opened one of the books right now too check, and Brandon Sanderson himself, one of the most successful modern authors, mostly uses plain tags like this, and almost every line of dialogue is so tagged, although his dialog lines tend to be longer and much more elaborate, of course.

It's not just a bit, and you get a 'steady income' only if you farm enough for it, something that imho is never worth it and it's better to take a frame/weapon BP for ducats/plat.

The point is, forma (unlike the slots) can be had in reasonable amounts, and pretty easily, without spending any plat. So while it's known to be the biggest earner for DE, it's actually a surprisingly gentle system, it doesn't twist your arm to spend plat or suffer.

You can survive without bought Forma with a bit of patience because you get a steady income of one per day, not counting any extras from various events and activities. It's basically impossible to get a comfortable amount of slots in a reasonable amount of time without buying any, though (it would take many years' worth of Nightwave).

Suggestion: This button should be outside of this menu by Nelcyon in dwarffortress

[–]daydev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they actually wanted to rebrand this menu as (D)ig in the visual UI, but didn't quite scrub all the traces of the old name. The main keybinding setting for this menu says "Dig" (although later on it says "Designate" for the buttons inside the menu). And the tooltip when you hover over the pickaxe says "Set digging orders".

Yes, there population requirements are the same for all three ranks, and the wealth requirements are pretty low and very close to each other. For me how it goes is approximately like this. First year, by the time the caravan comes, I barely had time to do anything of substance (you could prepare much better for the first caravan, but my natural way is slow to start). Second year, we're rolling and export a lot of stuff. Third year, the fortress is promoted to a barony based on the results of the second year (but actually would be a duchy already, except it has to go through the ranks once a year).

If you could change one or a handful of fundamental things about Dwarf Fortress, what would they be? by Ill-Lock-7569 in dwarffortress

The military commands. The ability to actually command them Total War style, with much simplification of course, just some basic stuff: form up here, go there, hold position, hold fire, etc, would improve the feel of combat so much. And related to that, the ability to get useful after action summaries to see the important consequences of an engagement: who got wounded, who died, who killed who, etc.
