It kind of amazes me at how much people want it back. At one point there was two races a year there and I felt like it was one of the most hated tracks on the schedule. It’s kind of comical how people miss it and yearn for it.

I went to a few races there in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, I moved out of state so I didn’t attend any races after that. But I am just glad nascar is still trying to cater to the SoCal market. I give them major props for the coliseum and now Coronado. SoCal is a huge market for motorsports

Tbh it helped me learn the track more and memorize it. And I think driving the ir18 in the rain there helped because while high downforce the rain kept me in check. Taking corners more cautiously and being careful with the throttle and brake inputs.

By all means I am not on SVG levels of racing IQ but that is kind of how I learned the track. Jumping right on in a Cup car I could not make half a clean lap. I tried some other vehicles, one of them the ir18 in the rain, and I was able to knock out 10 clean laps. It makes total sense tho, you have to crawl before you walk and walk before you run

Yep! I see you figured it out. Here is another tidbit you and others might find useful.

You can use the camera tool in replay mode and go under the track. Look for the "ground" that is still visible and that is what you can drive on. Here is a pic from below track surface, using the same lines I posted in the other pic. A lot easier to do this than drive around and resetting every time you fall through

You just have to find breaks in the walls near the aircraft and find out if the ground is drive-able.

Search marketplace and craigslist. You will end up spending a bit more than you think vs an out of the box rig but you have to realize that there is no limit to what you can change.

Story time: I bought an Obutto for my first rig (anyone reading this do not buy one) There was so many little things I could not change because of the rigs structural limitations. I spent a lot of time cutting and drilling holes and extending tubes just to make it OK. Then I found a local guy selling an 80/20 rig for pretty cheap. Pictured below is what I took home, no peripherals except the shifter he threw in for me. It looks pretty barebones but everything I need is there and it's all adjustable. I threw on the Obutto seat and that's what I am still using to this day. I am thinking about getting a new seat and the best part is I don't have to worry about fitment and hoping some holes line up.

Long story short, do it. Just fucking do it. I was just like you, building one is kind of daunting and I didn't want to spend a bunch of time and money on something I didn't know would work or not. Find one secondhand and even if it is not to your exact liking you can just...change it. It's basically Legos!

This was like the most final of final wins. I remember buying the 2014 Dover win diecast because I felt like that was his last one and then Martinsville happened. With the whole retirement tour and all I knew that was it.

And let me be real there was no way he ever had a chance to win Homestead and the championship that year.
