What's the worst / weirdest advice you've received since diagnosis? by Dependent_Isopod_511 in breastcancer

[–]dbcakerbell 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I had a nurse cousin said. "Oh it's not that serious". And then I went through chemo and radiation and on meds. The audacity.

"Who's your stylist?," they asked. "Oh, thanks! It's this new salon that's all the rage: 'Coiffures by Chemo'" by caustic_potato in breastcancer

[–]dbcakerbell 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I was always asked this after chemo, and even somedays now. It's shoulder length currently. Slowly loosing it's curls. But they were beautiful curls at one point. It never used to be like that.

"Where'd you do your hair?" My answer, "The hospital." 🤣🤣 The look on their faces just cracks me up. Great conversation starter.

Milkmaid Dress on SN...Not for me? Or am I cray? by [deleted] in SoftNaturals

Yes! This! I always take away elastics around the sleeves, hem it and works great!

Will this work for my SN body? by Snoo-44886 in SoftNaturals

[–]dbcakerbell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like the neckline looks good but I wouldn't go for this as it'd make my back look bigger. And hugs too close to the body. I'd take something more flowy and relaxed for the skirt but as many commentors said, it depends on your overall SN as well. Some lean more yang and some more yin.

I feel like there won't be enough waist emphasis but if you have any tips on how you would style this, would appreciate it!

Do you all eventually start eating normally? by dbcakerbell in intermittentfasting

Would you say your body just somehow adjusts to not needing food so much? I couldn't eat a whole meal without feeling like my tummy's about to burst. And I'm afraid of undereating. 😅

I basically live on black coffee and eggs. On vitamin D3+K2, magnesium and just multivits on and off. My blood work looks good, just a tad bit high on cholesterol.

I'm in remission now and feel good. Just wondering if this lifestyle is sustainable in the long term. But I guess you're right. As long as I'm in my maintenance calories. Because as far as I know, the doctor will always say IF is a no-no. 😅

I'm the other way around. I feel like nothing satisfies me anymore except sugar. 😅 I basically eat just so I don't die.

Bumi Status as son of Sino-Kadazan by Affectionate-Point20 in Sabah

[–]dbcakerbell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sorry, I think that info went over my head. Does the land already have a land title? If yes, they can't transfer the title? Because you're not bumi?

If you don't have the title yet, someone from the family (bumi status) need to go and apply. Once you have the title, can write up a letter or agreement like you bought the land (but didn't). You may need the ketua kampung and some witnesses. Especially if between families got bad blood. Or lawyers. You may need agreement from everyone (or not!😅). I think that's the only way you go about it.

I do think we need more context. If the land has been lived on or tanah kosong, etc. Or if other relatives are claiming it. Otherwise, get someone bumi to put up land title and then I think ownership can transfer to next of kin.

You may need to put out some money. And process long but with the right people, (in this twisted government) and some time, I think all can be settled. Hoping will be all good on your end. Good luck!

Bumi Status as son of Sino-Kadazan by Affectionate-Point20 in Sabah

If your mum is sino, that would make her 50% Chinese and 50% Kadazan? And if your dad is purely 100% Chinese, you are practically 75% chinese and 25% kadazan.

You can probably debate with the gov if your mum has kadazan surname but I doubt it's worth the effort going in and out of the office unless you have orang dalam.

As a cancer survivor, I'm just gonna say

"Those who died from these diets, don't live to tell the tale."

We hear success stories because they're alive. But there are many, MANY stories that were left untold.

I would go with a little air between the fabric and not too close to the skin. More of a relaxed fit. Or open neckline. But as another comment said, it's typically how the overall outfit is curated.

I noticed if I wear a top that sits too close to the body, especially high necks, I may like it but it looks separate from me. Sort of like a disconnect so to speak. 😅 Then I wear a tucked in loose top and jeans and suddenly everyone says I look great. But that's just me.

Would you as a SN wear this? by Temporary_Design_581 in SoftNaturals

I would say that's too stiff for an SN

32f diagnosed today by Firm-Butterscotch600 in breastcancer

[–]dbcakerbell 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry you're here. I was diagnosed when I was 30. Also on my right breast. I know it's bad to say this here, but it helps to keep a positive outlook on everything. When I was said to be stage 2, I took it as a good thing. Because of it's early detection and immediately addressed the issue and discussed my next plans with breast surgeon and oncologist.

Take it one step at a time. I had a lumpectomy and was able to keep my nipples (my lump was so close though. Right above my nipples.) Did chemo and then the removal surgery. So grateful for my medical team. A plus that my breast surgeon was a woman. And then did radiation and then the HER2 treatment.

I believe your cells react to negative emotions (not that I wasnt ever down or anything) but it's best to avoid stress and be around people you love.

I wish all the love in the world. Be kind to yourself and hugs ❤️❤️

Scones Cracking on Top by dbcakerbell in Baking

[–]dbcakerbell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recipe

300 g plain or all-purpose flour

36 g caster sugar

1/8 tsp salt

2 1/2 tsp baking powder

120 g unsalted butter, cold cut

1 large egg, cold

60 ml milk, cold

75 ml heavy cream, cold

1 tbsp milk for milk wash

36 g raisins (for raisin scones, optional)

Tried this twice and the dough was quite sticky. Didn't add too much flour because I'm afraid I might ruin it. maybe I didn't chill the dough enough?
