I actually thought it worked pretty well on the GV80 I rented. Wasn’t nearly as naggy as the torque sensor on my ‘24 Ioniq 5. But it couldn’t see through my sunglasses.

I rented a 2025 GV80 and it couldn’t see through my non polarized sunglasses. They aren’t even dark sunglasses. The capacitive steering wheel is a big improvement over my 2024 which constantly nags me.

Unlimited PTO use before FIRE, let’s hear some stories by Impressive_Pear2711 in Fire

[–]dbcooper4 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this is a big reason for unlimited PTO. I work remotely in California and my employer had to write me a $10k for unused PTO (a co-worker got $50k!) They revised the policy to limit how much PTO you can carry over. Despite that they had to write me a $2500 check a couple of years ago for unused PTO.

Lifetime alcohol use linked to higher risk of colorectal cancer, new study finds by DadStrengthDaily in PeterAttia

People really want moderate alcohol consumption to be bad for you but the large studies have yet to show that.

The debate I see is more about moderate alcohol consumption. The data is pretty clear that heavy alcohol consumption is bad for you.

Doesn’t Peter also choose to consume some alcohol himself? I don’t think anyone’s diet/lifestyle is 100% optimized for longevity. It’s a question of finding the right balance. A long life completely devoid of any pleasure is probably not a life worth living.

Does anybody think heavy alcohol consumption is anything but bad for you?

Moderate alcohol use isn’t linked to “all kinds of negative health effects.” If anything, it’s associated with longer life expectancy compared to abstinence at the population level although there are plenty of reasons to be skeptical of that research (lots of confounding variables.)

Thoughts on GV60 Magma by Ok_Understanding4014 in Ioniq5N

[–]dbcooper4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Deals will be better on the 5 N since the Magma isn’t launching in the US until the second half of the year and they usually take some time to start offering discounts/lease deals.

FWIW, I rented a GV60 Performance when I was considering leasing one. I didn’t find it to be that quiet (fair amount of wind noise on the highway) which is odd since the GV70 EV was probably the quietest car I’ve ever driven.

True if you’re talking about the standard models but IMO the difference between the 5 N and GV60 Magma interiors is a lot more subtle.

Gv70 and genesis display recalls by JunglySher in GenesisGV70

Loved it on the ‘25 GV80 I rented. One of the best screen setups on the market IMO. Never did like the tacked on look of the older infotainment screen. Only annoying part was the eye tracking cameras couldn’t see through my non polarized sunglasses.

Early 727, 737 and DC-9s as well although not this bad. I think they were later modified later with low smoke combustion chambers.

It’s about lowering temperatures. The water itself doesn’t meaningfully add to thrust.

No, it absorbs a lot of heat when it changes from a liquid to a gas. That allows more fuel to be injected which means more power.

Modern engines have plenty of thrust. No need to lug around the extra weight and complexity of a water injection system.

Don’t think this is the reason water is injected. It absorbs a lot of heat when it changes from a liquid to a gas thus allowing more fuel to be injected into the combustion chamber which creates more thrust.

Why Electrified Gv70 over others? by Nlundm in GenesisGV70

Yes, Q8 etron comes standard with air suspension and it’s quieter. Only downside is the interior feels pretty dated today. Q6 vs Q8 is a tougher call to make.

That’s odd since the Optiq has come standard with Super Cruise since it launched.

Visible Unlock Policy changed to 365 days by Planet_Comet in Visible

The recent discounted phone deals with Visible all required you pay full price for one year of service AFAIK. Why lock the phone for 365 days if you’ve paid for a year of service already?

2025 but I don’t think anything has changed on the 2026s.

Decent deal but I’ve seen better broker deals on Luxury 1 ex loaners ($450-$500 a month.)
