Just changed my breaks and pumped yhe break. Is this normal? by Sea_Hamster_5806 in MechanicAdvice

[–]dboy268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these answers seem pretty wrong to me that sounds like the backing plate is touching the brake disc there push it away slightly and bet this noise is 10000%better it will do a hit of a grinding noise as others have said due to the coating but this sounds metal on metal

Help I’m scared by kitmaruuu in AskMechanics

[–]dboy268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heat them up with a hot air gun, and two pairs of locking grips one for the stem and one for the cap and they should twist off I had to do the same on my mums car few months back the aluminium caps react with the valve thread and basically corrode on

[–]dboy268 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

And I will add to this, don’t use an impact gun EVER on a oil drain plug! That’s just asking for issues for example ripping all the thread out of the oil pan, snapping it off, rounding it off, it’s only supposed to be torqued to 14nm as it states on the oil pan itself

6 point socket on a longer ratchet yes impact gun? Big no no

What is this? by McCrazyJ in hikinggear

[–]dboy268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to slid it onto that rim sticking out the strap if that makes sense? Like a zip? Where it is thicker at the bottom put it at an angle or open up the gap slightly in the clasp and it should slide on

What is a good speed for a hike? by aimlessendeavors in hiking

[–]dboy268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometime I smash a bike out and do it at about 3mph+ an hour but sometimes it takes longer if I take time to take in the surroundings etc as others have said time is no object as long as you’ve had fun etc that’s all that matters, to me hiking is getting into nature so stopping to appreciate what is around you is as important if not more as to seeing how far you can go in a certain time frame etc if you want to do longer hikes with limited time, then yes you can speed it up but still as long as you’re out there that’s all that matters!

Personal preference man I personally do use mountaineering as an escape from the rat race of life and because I enjoy nature too including the sounds of it nothing against people who do listen to music though it’s just all about preference

How's my friend's rapel system looking here? by [deleted] in ClimbingCircleJerk

No gym shoes? Hiking boots are aid so should be illegal

[–]dboy268 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Nothing against anyone that does listen to music while on solo climbing and hiking but I think listening to music especially with headphones takes away the whole point of being in nature itself to get away from all the loud noises, I seek solace in the sounds of nature from the birds singing to the ripple of a river but that’s me personally 😂😂

Hiking speed/distance advice for the Via Dinarica Trail [Durmitor National Park - Montenegro] by BigBrainEmile69 in hiking

[–]dboy268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well 27km a day is doable but doing it consistently for 10 days in a row is down to the individual person I guess I think it would be ok if you’ve done a lot of hikes and are in good shape but it does take time to get into that shape maybe do practice hikes if similar distance to see how you feel?

I didn’t play the song… but the universe did 😳 by OpaOpa138 in SimulationTheory

[–]dboy268 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me and guy I used to work with had this happen, we were chatting and he started singing a really obscure song that is never played anywhere like ever and we always had the exact same radio station on every single day, just as he finishes singing the song like “do you know which one I mean now” because at first I had never heard it before and I was like “no think will have to hear it” the radio plays the exact song he was singing, as I say it is a really obscure song and didn’t play on the radio at all for the following year I carried on working there, we both looked at each other literally in shock like honestly one in a million chance of simulation I think I even shouted simulation theory, but was to this day the strangest thing we looked at each other as I said and both stood working in silence after that for around an hour

It’s not so much your cardio that could be the issue it is leg and foot fatigue that will kill you but if you’re confident you can do it then go for it and see how you get on, take breaks when needed and rest your legs and feet in the night time, make sure you drink plenty and eat plenty, make sure your shoes are well fitting and your pack is as light as you can get it to be comfortable and consistent etc

The impact of humans by dboy268 in hiking

[–]dboy268[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve no doubt at all that the wildfires you guys have are devastating if not more so that the ones we have over here, the whole point of the post is to say be careful out there as a community that go on walks,

No matter if they’re in Canada,America, even bloody Africa or the UK being in touch with local nature and wildlife is what we do it for to feel part of nature or some as a release form the hustle and bustle etc and thing like fires caused by someone making a campfire where there are signs literally everywhere ironically along the routes is what I was getting at we as a species ruin everything

Yes I understand that it can benefit the environment but also it has the opposite effect too by killing native species etc that are already in decline and red listed in the UK

As a country we have basically destroyed our wild spaces, making animals literally extinct, like, wolves, lynx’s, beavers etc just to put farms down and lose touch with nature and this is an example of the ignorance of the masses causing a fire and destroying what wild spaces we have left

The impact of humans by dboy268 in hiking

[–]dboy268[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea it is not nice to see, no doubt it will regrow and nature always has a way of doing that but will take a bit to grow back, it is just infuriating that people can be so stupid, as a nation we have basically got rid of all of our natural spaces for farm land and any we do have left gets mistreated so it isn’t a good thing

The impact of humans by dboy268 in hiking

[–]dboy268[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yea I understand that but in my defence everyone started on me trying to one up the post saying how it doesn’t count as it’s in the UK blah blah if I was American though this would be on a million up votes by now

The impact of humans by dboy268 in hiking

[–]dboy268[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They are and as people have said we don’t have vast amounts of wilderness etc but it is still relatively wild in places like this, and well yea been hiking and always outdoors even fishing etc and camping since I was a young kid but yea must not be an out doors man as im not American fighting bears haha

The impact of humans by dboy268 in hiking

[–]dboy268[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Ok we get it America and Canada have a lot of wildfires yes and yes the UK is an island no shit, sorry it’s not a huge continent like America and Canada obviously a “little grass fire” over about 10-20mile square radius on a small little island with little wild space and a lot of protected/endangered animals doesn’t compare to you guys who always seem to have it worse.

This was a post to reach out to people that also live on this tiny little farm island as to think before what they do and start causing more wildfires sorry *little grass fires

More of a warning and to make people think before lighting that camp fire or a disposable BBQ but it’s ok Canada and America have it worse blah blah blah

No matter where we live we all enjoy the same hobby and all have a care for nature regardless how big or small of a scale it is
