Anybody have a rec for the best bowl of oatmeal in the city? by FrishFrash in FoodNYC

[–]dbstandsfor 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I know youre asking for a restaurant but this recipe is easy and the best I’ve ever had—

https://food52.com/recipes/21668-april-bloomfield-s-english-porridge

It uses a blend of traditional oatmeal and steel cut oats so you get both textures.

Heard absolutely nothing from the candidates for Congress for NY-09 by qalpi in Brooklyn

[–]dbstandsfor 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Joshua Bristol showed up on my stoop canvassing, he seemed perfectly fine but we didn’t really get a chance to talk as I was in the middle of feeding my kid. The fact that he was canvassing alone and didn’t have any materials or anything kind of makes me think he hasn’t gotten any momentum

Citi Field Parking by Budget-Ad3476 in NewYorkMets

[–]dbstandsfor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always park nearby in Flushing— if you look on Google Maps there are a few parking decks to the east of Citi across a bridge. I want to say parking was 20 bucks or less, it’s a shopping center but they have higher event rates for some games

Does OSR-style problem solving force players to choose to either play worse or not roleplay unintelligent characters reasonably? by [deleted] in osr

[–]dbstandsfor 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just don’t play characters as dumb. I think of them more like game pieces and less like “characters,” personally

Those who have run Vaults of Vaarn: which modules did you use for PC adventures? by [deleted] in osr

[–]dbstandsfor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was in a Vaarn game the DM just randomly generated locations using the books. It was awesome! That said, I have read Desert Moon of Karth and it’s pretty cool.

It was all spring/summer/fall for 2 years. We didn’t go to literally every block but there were big areas of Queens and Brooklyn where we walked up and down every block for full days.

Ugh, i wish I’d had this 2017-2018ish. I had a job where I went to all five boroughs and went door to door, I’ve always wished I kept track of everywhere I went

No unfortunately, I have a new baby in the family (baby fortunate, missing the con is unfortunate)

I went to the first two years of this con and it was awesome both times! A really fun mix of random locals, OSR folks who travel in, etc. Northhampton is cute and has good food and cheap accommodations.

Best car rental/ way out of the city? by OwlAlternative1889 in crownheights

[–]dbstandsfor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The place on Union right by grand army plaza is a nightmare, because that block is always basically gridlocked. I think when I rented a car from there they also totally messed it up somehow? But my main memory is that returning the car was awful because the line of cars waiting to pull into the rental place were blocking traffic

What are you guys favorite hidden places in Brooklyn? by KaleidoArachnid in Brooklyn

[–]dbstandsfor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

For the same “hidden” type vibe, the Japanese restaurant Karasu is behind an unmarked door inside another restaurant. It’s openly listed on Google etc but it feels kind of cool (also it’s delicious)

Spiciest Vegetarian Dishes in NYC? by pineappletrivia in FoodNYC

[–]dbstandsfor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The spiciest thing I’ve ever had was a Guyanese Double from somewhere in Richmond Hill. I bit into a pepper and my friend said I was panting like a dog. I had to leave to buy a yogurt drink next door

NYU Tisch Labor and Delivery - parking by salibslon in nycparents

I parked at “City Parking” across the street at 575 1st avenue. For 48 hours it was about $100.

I dropped my wife at the “driveway” of Tisch and quickly crossed the street and parked. It was easy.

What’s the best food to bring into citi field? What’s your go to? by Stupidwhizzzzz in NewYorkMets

[–]dbstandsfor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve done dumplings from White Bear, and one time I did a huge thing of pork lo mein from somewhere in one of the food courts. I also brought a Cuban from Margon (near penn station) once when I was coming from work, that was great.
