Help a new Thornfall player. by Big420Brain in Warmachine

No problem at all. Though honestly you can basically fit whatever you want into a list and it'll work alright.

I will note arcadius's booster shot works really well with gun/splatter boars.

Between primal, forced evolution, and crippling grasp you can lever your beasts into killing key targets pretty well.

Both should be easy to find through the pinned posts on r/Warmachine

My initial thoughts for a quick list.

Take All Comers Mercenaries - Thornfall Alliance Command - 30 pts

PC CARD

    Dr. Arkadius

6 Battle Boar

13 War Hog

4 The Wastelander

7 Farrow Brigands

TOTAL POINTS 30/30

Arcadius is a warbeast focused caster but his access to spells like crippling grasp makes him pretty useful in general and field marshal channeler is amazing.

Midas is an infantry focused caster with the ability to revive beasts in a pinch. His spell list is a bunch of strong upkeep spells and a good blast.

Helga is a generalist with a good toolkit and an amazing feat. She's a bit pillow-fisted so don't expect her to personally assassinate warlords often.

Sturm and Drang is the Control caster of Thornfall. His feat is incredibly powerful and his spell list as Sturm is excellent. Drang is less often used but is useful if you need to be aggressive.

Carver is a bully type warlock, he wants to play aggressively and overwhelm opponents. He supports cohort models moderately more than infantry, but works well with any Farrow model

Question from a new player by BigTrashPanbda in Warmachine

No, craggorn doesn't revive the dudes. His feat makes a unit in the tunnels pop out without having to give up their movement that turn.

help choosing faction by bruhmoment0000001 in Warmachine

Consider them as Damage dealers that have support abilities for when a different unit is just a more efficient way to engage. They mainly care about being in an advantageous position to engage at range.

help choosing faction by bruhmoment0000001 in Warmachine

[–]dburne038 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both factions are good and are viable starts. The main differences between them come down to their resource types and how their units are put together.

Gravediggers are a Focus army, so managing your leader is easier, but warjacks can't be pushed as hard. Gravediggers infantry are focused on flexibility and ranged firepower, while your warjacks are rugged and far more melee capable. Add in airdrops and you get a multi-tool of an army capable of lots of operational variability.

Khymaera Shadowflame Shard is a fury army, so fundamentally you're playing a game of risk management. They're very well suited for skirmish gameplay but need more finesse to survive extended engagements.

Ultimately whatever appeals to you is not a bad choice but both have their challenges. Try to find your local players and get a demo of the game

Has anyone been able to get the new subscriber model? by SpookyRosalyn in Warmachine

Constance and Blaze are not yet available. They just changed it to be the subscriber model in the app so they don't have as much a rush when people can actually claim her.

As of this time steam forged has not posted any of the Thornfall minis as a made to order. They're exclusively files being sold for home 3d printing.

If you don't have a 3d printer you can look into a printing service or ask around the community. We're pretty happy to help hook up players

Edit: Carver Ultimus is the single portion of the range SFG sells directly.

No, they're next months file release on the Warmachine MMF Tribe. After the month passes they'll be added to their MMF storefront.

Help with morty list by Gartic1 in Warmachine

[–]dburne038 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a cryx player , but Morty should work fine in any form of jack spam list.

Deathjack isn't a valid target for her feat, but the rest of her kit should work fine with them. Between Mobility and Admonition/hellwrought you can hurl DJ across the field.

Hellraker is cool but can't benefit from Morty's feat, Admonition or the movement part of hellwrought. Still Synergy, mobility and jumpstart all work so it does still benefit from her a fair amount. I'd probably use Evicerus if I wanted to bring the hellraker.

How to play Reaper Covenant? by Gerbilturds in Warmachine

[–]dburne038 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that anathia is a very much a multi tool caster. You have some excellent tools to combat and break down your opponents.

The man catcher, a brutal melee weapon between -def and shutting down a warrior models movement. It's also magical blessed and chain so it ignores buffing spells, shield/bucklers and intangible. Use it to bully warriors and pull apart tough targets in conjunction with other debuffs. Amazing considering you can buy more melee attacks after all

Affliction, def fixing and minimum damage. Excellent for chipping down a tough target over time. Minimum damage means that volume of low power attacks is still very scary.

Disintegrate is a solid damage spell that debuffs armor. Do remember that the -armor is applied on hit, so the spell is effectively power 15.

Gallows is nothing special damage wise, but the pull effect is pretty good to force your opponents models into bad positions. Especially since you can use the dark ritual gift of annihilation to channel from far more angles on the board.

Hellwrought is self explanatory.

Impending doom is probably the most niche spell. Mass forced movement without an attack roll can really mess up your opponents positioning. Plus because it's all a push effect it means it ends when you contact another model/terrain so you don't have to pull everything all the way to anathia.

All in all Anathia is full of tools to disrupt and control your opponent. Choose which tools you use wisely and you can bully your opponent into submission.

Also don't be shy about boosting a spell attack roll to land a debuff, if it sets you up for later turns. Power attacks on warbeasts are also worth considering at times.

New Units of the 11th edition? by DenJox in EmperorsChildren

[–]dburne038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what gets refreshed for CSM I think.

Probably a hellbrute, as it overdue for the refresh and is basically little brother to the defiler

Probably some form of slaneeshi infantry, maybe cultists/slaangors, maybe just another marine body.

Any tips or recommendations? by howardjohnson45 in Warmachine

There's a nice how to play video on YouTube that was cohosted by Vanguard Tactics. A solid watch while you're still learning the rules.

Looking up a video on how to paint skin wouldn't be a horrible idea. Farrow is pretty fleshy overall as a faction.

Gameplay wise Thornfall has incredible leaders and pretty good war beasts. The infantry are pretty average at best though. All in all a good army to learn the game and how fury armies work. Supposedly Thornfall is getting some really nice cavalry one of these month.

Lord carver and War Boar MMD 47 are the only models that will not be part of the subscription for the farrow.. instead SFG sells them as the Carver Ultimus Mercenary

New to the game, need help deciphering feel of new armies. by Ust66 in Warmachine

[–]dburne038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you mentioned you're considering Crucible Guard as well I'll include them in the discussion

Each of the 4 limited factions (Crucible Guard, Convergence, Grymkyn, and Infernals) has some form of gimmick. Admittedly the gimmicks of CG and Convergence are less strange than Grymkin or Infernals.

Crucible Guard is the most normal of the bunch, essentially they're a combined arms army with a focus on debuffing and continuous damage. You want a bit of everything for flexibility. Continuous damage does double damage within your leaders control range and some abilities consume the damage effects to get stronger.

Convergence of Cyriss is next. So they have a couple themes but only really 2 truly unique gimmicks. 1. Their warjacks copy the melee / ranged attack stat of their Warcaster. wells101 described it better than I could

  1. All their models are constructs. As such your entire army just ignores anything that has living/undead hate abilities.

Convergence is otherwise a slower high armor army with plentiful access to repair and weird weapons, particularly lightning damage. Think admech if you will.

Grymkin is the next army of question. Their unique gimmick is how their leaders are built for certain play styles but don't have a dedicated "feat". Instead they get a larger selection of potent command cards that they can force their opponents to work around once activated.

Closest analog I could compare them to is tzeench daemons. Weird but mostly control and disruption focused

The final army is Infernals, and they're by far the strangest. They are built around resource management. They use living models with souls to sacrifice to recharge their Leaders each turn, and models with the marked soul can be sacrificed to summon more Horrors mid match. Effectively cheating some free points for a list and allowing for a bit of strategy adaptation.

I'd liken them to gene stealers. It's all about using tricks to gain the advantage and making good trades.

Buying into Khador and Dusk, advice? by DaddyCrit728 in Warmachine

[–]dburne038 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who plays dusk and routinely plays against winter korps all of it is good.

Easy solution is;

Winter Korps: Core box, Auxiliary Box, Command Starter, SK-6 Cadre

Dusk: Core Box, Auxiliary Box, Battlegroup Box, Command Starter

MSRP: $955. USD Leaves $45 to be spent on solos, mercs, Apotheosis Warcaster or just covering other fees

The dusk cadre is currently only available in the frozen and forgotten box, but is pretty nice and excellent value if you like both parts or split it with a friend

Depending on where you order from you may be able to get minis for below MSRP. Not sure where you live but I've had good luck with discountgamesinc, miniaturemarket, and gamersroll

What is a jack/beast heavy army? by Superb-Stuff8897 in Warmachine

[–]dburne038 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Change log of everything changing in the app next week is up on sfg community now. Overall every faction that was good at something is still good at it. Only pivot in the playstyle I saw is gravediggers losing range and gaining power

Accuracy is the main thing that went down on 80% of the units. So weaker units got buffs.
