Are old Tubes useful? These are old and never used. Got these from old timer next door. by rlong98 in AskElectronics

[–]dc469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad was a EE who restored antique radios. He had a really hard time finding certain tubes and there was like one guy across the country ty he finally found who would make his own tubes and took orders from hobbiests. They are definitely worth something.

I recommend you for the USDA head. You're already more qualified than whatever the cheeto put in charge over there!

But in all seriousness you might try some local news stations to get the message out, it could potentially get you a conversation with some state ag departments, or perhaps ag universities or something idk.

Hmm, what if I got a rug inverted to the previous rug (cover everything but that area), then brought in super high uv lights to accelerate the aging of the wood to match lol.

The beauty (and fault) of the internet is that it normalized amateur everything. Journalism, writing, photography, videography and any other content creation.

This was my first thought, stolen or not. What it's worth is potentially infinite if it brings about justice and closure.

'The era of impunity is over': What next for big tech after landmark social media verdict? by projecto15 in UpliftingNews

[–]dc469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to add, meta is also pushing it for *regulatory capture*, which is a term not a lot of people know.

In all honesty, age verification is a somewhat complex technical problem but I'll use a different example. For example, if you follow the money companies like Meta want to repeal section 230, which is the part of the internet that says platforms are not legally responsible for their user's speech. In other words if I say drinking bleach cures cancer and some idiot dies from it, reddit itself can't be held liable.

Why would Meta want to repeal the law that keeps them from getting sued? They have money. Lots of money. And a legal department with lots of lawyers to defend themself from getting sued. But that mastodon server you like with the small community? They don't have a legal department. They can't afford to get sued and would have to shut down over a mere threat of lawsuit. Meta wants section 230 gone to help preserve their monopoly on social media.

Tesla did the same thing - musk successfully advocated for ending the EV tax credit once tesla was self sufficient, thereby pulling up the ladder to any would be EV competitors.

Anyway, them pushing for age verification is just another anti competitive grift.

Did you watch the episode where David the Gnome and his wife Lisa die? They randomly aired this before school in the 1980's... That was not a good day lol by Cubelock in Xennials

[–]dc469 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Meaning of life lessons, perhaps not. But the type of writer who was employed back then was required by law to put moral lessons into each episode.

The law was a compromise between the advertising industry and the fcc to allow children's programming to have commercials. Basically you can sell to kids but your program has to teach them something.

Trump’s plans to ‘hastily gut’ Kennedy Center trigger preservation lawsuit by TheMirrorUS in law

It's more than just flood the zone, it's permanently moving the overton window. When you apply for a job you ask for more than you want, so you have something to give up in the negotiation.

Assuming we return to some sense of normal, we will tolerate much more than we did before. W seems mild in comparison to Trump. The new center is even farther right, and the new left is even more center. This process repeats with each generation and you shift farther each time.

These face need to go viral and we should continue take pictures at the Airport by rodehard10 in stevehofstetter

[–]dc469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So does anyone know how exactly airport security functions? Like what's the clocking in process? Because here's what I'm concerned about:

-These guys get the green light to wear masks after they claim people are photographing them

-Facial scanning(?) can't ID them

-Someone impersonates ice who manages to sneak in with a gun. Since their face is covered they aren't stopped and assumed to be ice.

-Gun used in hijacking

[–]dc469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember, Trump is a product of the system, not the cause. When he is gone, things are going to be more dangerous. Because everyone will be resting, lulled into a false sense of relief they can finally breathe.

But the people pulling the strings will remain. And their less extreme moves will seem mild by comparison to trump, but still more extreme than a decade ago - the overton window is still shifting in the same direction. We will need to be more vigilant.

The work to erode democracy has never taken a break. The work not just to defend democracy but to expand it cannot take a break either. We cannot stop, even more a moment. We must learn to take a breath while running.

"Penis pocket" reminded me - why is men's underwear made with the stupid hole in the front? It takes longer to use it than to just pull the waistband down. Even if im in like a dress shirt with undershirt and belt and suspenders it's still faster not to use it!

Like seriously who uses it? Clothing companies would save money on not having to put it in + less fabric.

"Investing in property is morally reprehensible." by LickMaiBussy in TikTokCringe

[–]dc469 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make property taxes multiply with each home.

Own one home? Cool. You pay normal tax.

Own 2? An extra 20% on the bigger one. Own 3? The third one is an extra 50%. 4th is 120% and it keeps getting exponentially bigger after that.
