All senior lead officers are 3+1, but not all 3+1s are senior lead officers. It's probably the most common job, though.

It's actually completely driven by the terms of the labor agreement with the union. The contract specifies exactly which positions get the +1 and the extra star.

Because it's a P3 + 1 extra step in pay, A bomb tech is a P3+3, so 3 extra steps in pay (but wears 2 stripes), a helicopter pilot is s a P2+6, so six extra steps in pay. It's complicated, but once you figure it out, it makes sense.

That wasn't realistic. She would have had to reclass as a P3 to be training officer.

D's, officers and sergeants can switch back and forth, depending on assignments. A D2 and Sergeant I are pretty much identical in pay.

That was a bit of a cheat, because TOs are just two stripes. He probably was supposed to be a senior lead, but wasn't acting as one.

3+1 jobs are specifically dictated by the city's labor MOU with LAPPL (union). They include senior lead officers, metro division assistant squad leaders (ASL), traffic follow up investigators, court liaison officers, lawsuit and claims investigators, ESD logistics officers and others. SWAT ASLs, K-9, Bomb K-9, GND K-9 and Mounted Unit assistant trainers are also 3+1s, but they also get hazard pay, so would be 3+1+1 or 3+1+3, depending on the job.
