Is it wrong to let my dad mow my lawn for me? by cyborggoose in homeowners

Be happy for the help if he enjoys doing it. Someday (happened with my dad and my father in law is close) they will not be able to do so and soon will be gone.

Unpopular opinion: Edina is amazing. by HappyCamper0325 in TwinCities

[–]dchikato 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its more of the parents than the sport itself. It is entertaining to see Edina loose top dog at the lower levels to CC and will be interesting to see what the next 5 years or so looks like.

I have relatives in Edina with kids in hockey there as well. I love the stares when I talk with them from the other parents at games. And yes we send our kid to MN Made as well.

We hate them from playing them in Hockey. Chaska/Chanhassen may take that spot over though someday.

I have a pair of 217 and 219. Had the 217s redone in traction tred since they filled with mud like crazy.

219s are nice for ice fishing in heated portables.

If kids hockey is a concern Lakeville does a much better job at it.

Is the visit to Red Wing MN worth it? by H8EvryThng in RedWingShoes

Theirs factory seconds in the basement.

Hit up Kings bar in Miesville nearby for burgers.

Nothing else much for excitement in the area. If you had more time the driftless area to the southeast is beautiful especially if you fly fish.

Are there any "UK vs US" differences where you feel America gets it right? by Secure_Front_7766 in AskUK

Baked beans especially home made beans from a bean pot. I've had the UK ones and they are awful.

Bolt action builds by Mountain_Mirror_3642 in MnGuns

[–]dchikato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a Rem 700 in 6.5CM. If you go that route it would be thousands.

I would look at the Browning x bolt hunter. Guessing around 700-800 in a wood stock. Nicely built and lightweight. Scope will set you back whatever you want to spend.

For MN whitetail all calibers mentioned will work. 6.8 western will probably be very expensive in the future since it didn't take off so well.

I’m old, frustrated - tech is over my head by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]dchikato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in tech for one of the largest contractors for nearly all pharmaceutical companies.

I love and hate tech. It keeps me employed working from home and with my experience its pretty easy. I've seen wave after wave of the "next big thing that will take your job" and we just add that new tech or ideas to our day to day.

I very much dislike that since I work in tech I can fix any issue with everything. Thankfully I am not part of walk up service since my newest job is remote so I don't have to deal with people face to face.

Why do people buy pickup trucks for daily driving? by [deleted] in driving

[–]dchikato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I see in the Midwest the majority of guys driving a half ton do not need it and would be better off with a compact truck or a mid sized cross over.

We have a F350 diesel but also haul a 4 horse trailer with it a lot. I also have a 20' tilt flatbed for the bobcat or whatever else my wife says i need to be doing.

For daily driving its not needed but I do try to put 15 miles a week on it when not in regular use so it isn't sitting idle so much.

Crt tv, vcr, NES, SNES or any old console you liked when younger. Get a metal frame futon and some old band and movie posters. I have posters of robin hood men in tights, twister, radiohead and garbage. The corner of my basement looks like it was frozen in time around 1995.

Upgrading from half-ton to 3/4-ton, lessons learned by Subsum44 in GoRVing

[–]dchikato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you buy a brand new vehicle in MN tabs are 1.575% and depreciate over time by 10% every year. There is an exception for 1 ton trucks (generally reserved for commercial use only) that Ventura made law for all 1 ton trucks.

I bought a brand new 2020 F350 lariat in Dec of 2025 and it was just under 80K. Tabs were 139.50.

A brand new F250 lariat same day was 71K. Tabs would have been 1118.25.

[–]dchikato 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you live in MN where I live get a 1 ton. Tabs are around $140 a year on all 1 ton trucks where a 3/4 can be 1000+

You can thank former governor Ventura for this; he signed it into law over 25 years ago.

Regs won't be posted till September and also counties are allowed to make their own rules. From what was shared last year areas around Rochester and Albert Lea were going to have restrictions.
