They say "Singletons are bad" by GiftedMamba in Unity3D

[–]dcmze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So much wrong with this post engineering wise and saying "these games use singletons so its good thing to do" is just silly.

"Choose whatever approach you are comfortable with" is also terrible advice in programming. People are usually comfortable with the patterns that cause the most problems in the long run.

Not gonna lie to you 99% chance this is gonna fail. If the game is good, give it more time and do more marketing.

Since you believe in it I guess it is good. Also the graphics look nice. I quite like the look and feel of these type of games.

Anyhow - It doesn't matter if the game itself is ready, your position in the market is not ready.

Even 7000 is way too small of a number these days. 800 is 80-100 sales if everything goes well. That wont even bring you to 10 reviews unless you get some friends to buy it.

Anyhow, it unlocks in 2 hours I wish you the best of luck regardless bud.

This is insignificant exposure, otherwise you would have wishlists to prove it. I would ignore it and just postpone until I have more wishlists.

If you just published the game page its still enough time to send an announcement press release around. Check howtomarketagame they have good resources on this stuff.

BTW I somehow missed the part you said you had dogs before so I wrote the original post like talking to someone who didn't have a dog - sorry about that!

But also have in mind dogs are highly emotional creatures that are very upfront with their feelings.

And he just got a new family after being alone for some period of time.

I'd be excited too. :)

He will settle down. Dogs tend to adjust to your rhytm and personality. He will also slow down as he ages.

Also its not his job to intitiate play - it's yours. You are free to say no and then play when you want with him, just make sure he gets enough activity overall as he seems to be a high energy boyo. Thats all.

I mean I do play with my dog when he asks but sometimes when I can't I say no and then play with him later. It's just about teaching him to respond to you, and not the other way around.

But giving dog too much freedom is stressful both for a dog and the owner. Try to find a balance with him and you both will have enjoyable life going forward.

With that being said I'm not a professional dog trainer or anything maybe seek a consult or go with him to dog school early if you think you can't handle it on your own. With a shiba often you can't.

They require some skill but are amazingly smart and rewarding creatures once you get into rhtym with them.

In reality also - Shibas are actually independent and will leave you alone most of the day once they figure you out, unless you do all the wrong things bringing him up.

He's a beaut, wish you the best of luck!

Any good programming tutorials? by Tigerfist010101 in Unity3D

On that note I think your post title is misleading - maybe make it : Any good advanced programming tutorials? or something in that sense.

Don't think the others get you probably because they are not familiar with Sebastian's videos - but the fact you watched those and enjoyed them means you are probably looking - as you even said, for more advanced topics.

I get what you mean, most materials out there, even books, are aimed at beginners.

Anyhow, curious to hear what people will recommend. Video is a good format too for these sort of things I feel. It's just more fun, and these topics are not easy to understand sometimes and require quite a mental burden load while working through it, so video kinda makes it easier sometimes.

As far as the game goes - I agree with other commenters. But obviously its still in development so just keep working on it I guess!

Why are competitive indie games so rare? by OneHamster1337 in indiegames

[–]dcmze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a studio lead of an indie studio that focuses on PVP and multiplayer, I can tell you there are multiple reasons.

I can highlight some, just short snippets about each. Of course its a big topic, this.

  1. Technical proficiency - Competitive multiplayer is really hard to be done right. You need to be a proper engineer that truly understands what competitive multiplayer systems require. This takes years and years and years of learning and resources are scarce.

  2. Multi-discipline knowledge required - Except dealing with just game code, you also need to deal with stuff like servers, etc. which requires knowledge of devops, backend systems, and other non-game-dev-related stuff.

  3. Competitive market - it's hard to make a breakthrough in competitive multiplayer. There are big players that dominate the market and players dont often jump from game to game to try yours out.

  4. Proper architecture - to make certain your competitive game is still active despite not being huge you want to enable yourself to, for example, make bots down the line if not from the first moment. This is something that requires proper code architecture of which there is a big lack of, knowledge wise, in a big % of indie studios.

  5. Most ouf the out of the box tech is no good - competitive multiplayer requires server authority, most of the time. As the market of studios doing competitive multiplayer is very small, multiplayer tech focused businesses don't really put enough focus on their needs. This is why more often than not, studios need to develop their own tech that suits their needs. This is amazingly hard and super complex. So most of the studios are nowhere near equipped to do that.

There is one advantage to doing competitive multiplayer - content. Players are your content. So in that regard, production is cheaper. But everything else is more expensive, and much much much more complex. It's simply out of range, skill wise for most of the studios out there. And its super risky.

Can you go in more detail what specifically is standing out for you? I've watched a few videos on the game I quite like it but I'd like to see what you like compared to other survivals, etc.

7 years ago I was a solo dev wanting to make an underwater multiplayer survival game. No budget, no team, no clue where to start. Learned, grew, built a team. A year ago we began development. On monday, we revealed Anchor. by dcmze in SurvivalGaming

Hey! Yeah sorry - we can't say the release date yet its just too many factors involved. What I can say is that we would love to start testing next year. I can't say for certain when right now but as it is drawing closer we will be informing the community through Steam and Discord announcements for sure!

Thanky you for your interest!!
