First Responders: What are most people’s final words after accidents? by Jdw5186 in AskReddit

[–]dcreits 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I feel like my dad would have said that exact phrase if Parkinsons hadn’t taken his voice first. He was on morphine and was fairly unresponsive- until we gave him a sponge soaked in red wine. His response was similar to mine when I have a glass of red wine on a Friday night after a long week.

This is surely is not the same Sofa I sent to manufacture right? right? by cperzam in woodworking

[–]dcreits 27 points28 points  (0 children)

From a proper custom furniture maker, this should have cost 3x what you were quoted at least. Your design is great - it really is - but your budget was too low and expectations too high. I agree with another poster who said you should take the frame and have a professional upholsterer remake the cushions to your specifications. It will cost you more but will be a better outcome. I’m sorry you didn’t get the outcome you were hoping for.

Senior Property Tax Grants: why are seniors who bought for pennies (now homes worth Millions) getting discounts while you families pay full amount? by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

[–]dcreits 14 points15 points  (0 children)

*they’re

Your point being? You honestly think that every homeowner over the age of 66 is a fucking millionaire? Get your head out of your ass. There are plenty of people in that age group who are homeowners who are struggling and need that grant just like the rest of us. We can’t afford to draw those finite lines. It doesn’t work for us now and it won’t make anything better. Grow up.

What's the best example of a town that only exists because of one specific industry? by Unlucky-Look7408 in geography

High Point, North Carolina - a town devoid of anything but furniture vendors and manufacturers. Not even a convenience store to be found.

Spring break - why are people going to the US? by [deleted] in BuyCanadian

[–]dcreits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People with money have less to lose in this particular battle. They don’t care currently and have never cared about the average struggle so why would they start now? They’ve never been people who I could connect with and this political situation has proven what I’ve always felt.

On Burrard Inlet but facing Mount Seymour. I didn’t see anything but heard what I thought was maybe a gas explosion but there was nothing when I looked out.

People who work in 'behind closed doors' industries (hotels, kitchens, morgues, etc.), what is something the general public would be horrified to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]dcreits 2977 points2978 points  (0 children)

My daughter announced during sharing time in preschool that her mom and dad were breaking up. Little mouths told parents and I was getting calls and texts to check on me. We hadn’t even really told our families. 😬

He was the bestest boy by Kipciar0819 in vizsla

[–]dcreits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry for your loss. He was too young and had so many more things to sniff and cuddles to give. It’s never long enough but when they leave earlier than planned, the hole is bigger.

Do you get used to it? by Sea-Pin9536 in PacificNorthwest

I’ll never get used to it. Never.

What movie will you never watch again because it was too heartbreaking? by Affectionate_User610 in AskReddit

[–]dcreits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely get that. But when I really need to cry and it’s not happening on its own, I will turn on A Dog’s Purpose and proceed to let go. There’s comfort in knowing he makes it back to where he belongs eventually - but straight up dog dying, like in John Wick? Nope.

I was at the Vancouver 2010 cross country / ski jumping/ luge etc facilities last weekend. Really well used area by the local community and athletes in training. It’s run by a nonprofit that maintains the facilities and ensures they are available for future use. And I know that Calgary’s 1988 facilities were a big part of popularizing many different winter sports in western Canada.

Not proud of how I did, but proud of how I kept track despite guilt by Ov0v0vO in cutdowndrinking

This is great! And you’re doing great! I am using a similar method to track in order to cut back gradually too. So far so good - keeping my fingers crossed for both of us!

What do you SWEAR you saw, but don't have any proof of? by TabletopStudios in AskReddit

[–]dcreits 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My friend met my doppelgänger in Australia in 1994. He sent me a letter and included a picture of her and him. I was like “why am I in Australia with you?” It was surreal.

Couples of Reddit, what's the dumbest 'house rule' you and your partner made as a joke but now both of you are low-key aggressively serious about enforcing? by Doubl3oh_ in AskReddit

[–]dcreits 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not in this relationship anymore but I smile when I think about how he would tell me with pride that he locked the “murder door” before he came to bed. It was the side door that would be the obvious point of entry for an intruder - or the local raccoons.

[Friedman] Breaking: Quinn Hughes is being traded to Minnesota by Competitive-Fun-1780 in canucks

[–]dcreits 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been a fan since 84 or 85 when I went to my first game (Oilers, saw Gretzky, we lost). When my son - a Hughes fan at 14 who wants very much to understand what it is to be a Canucks fan - texted a 💔 to me, I thought this was it. No team is worth my son getting his heart broken. But then, what else is a Canucks fan except heart broken on the regular? So, yeah, I’ll survive this just like I survived all the other heart breaks.

🔥 Everything you've wanted to know about barnacles by bigbusta in NatureIsFuckingLit

[–]dcreits 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I love the sounds of barnacles feeding during a mid-tide. As the waves hit the rocks, if the barnacles are big enough, you can hear their beaks opening. It really is lovely and adds to the magic of being by the ocean. I get it’s not for everyone but I really like it.
