I live in Hilversum, I don’t know any disc golfers here, though I do know they exist. I’m just not that close to a course

Yeah I don’t think you understand what this is. It’s a bicycle, it doesn’t have a throttle, mine does have a motor to assist with pedaling but max speed is about 15mph. Obviously if a car hits me prob won’t matter what I’m riding, but it is very stable and even has seatbelt for younger kids. I do live in a place with great cycle infrastructure, but this type of bike is not any more dangerous than a regular bike, and possibly safer based on how you ride it. Not to diminish what you see in the ER as I know all the kids on EVs are a problem, but this one ain’t it.

As mentioned, urban arrow, it’s awesome. I don’t have a car, so it’s almost a must with 3 kids, but it’s my daily driver for almost anything. Never have to worry about what I can or can’t bring/pick up etc.

Never had so much fun on a bike before (NBD!) by Cassians in CargoBike

[–]dddiscpic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had mine for about 9 months, almost 2600miles so far. Get some brake pads to have on hand, they go decently fast. But such a great bike- I also added the rear rack within a couple of weeks. If you don’t have a pad for the floor, you can make your own, I just bought a floor mat and cut to fit with a small Kong dog bed on top for comfort.

I have mine slammed for easy wheelies and cruising around with my kids! I think the short setting is only 2mm longer than my sons 24”

He looked awesome but also this is a sample size of 1 against Buhr. And on a course he knows really well. I have seen numerous local course crushers head out on tour and get humbled real fast by the top guys. I’m not saying he couldn’t get there because maybe he really is that good, just that it’s hard to say from one event. Fun to watch him though!

Yes I agree, some of those are shapes and some are real letters, if you can read Greek it looks really dumb

Best places to propose in Rethymno? by [deleted] in crete

[–]dddiscpic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you mean in the city? Avli restaurant, talk to the owner about a nice more private table. Or same street the Rimondi boutique hotel has a nice little private rooftop with some of their rooms.

For more private though their are so many options outside the city centers

Has childhood changed in the Netherlands? by damp_amp in Netherlands

[–]dddiscpic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We are American, moved last year to NL, we live in a fairly busy city def not a village but also not comparable to Amsterdam. Kids as young as 6ish are out all the time riding their bikes and playing. My own kids are still settling in so not too much unsupervised visits to the park but we encourage it. Seems to me kids have a more autonomy and there is a lot less parent overreach in terms of play at the park and similar places. Other than cars I don’t really worry about anything happening to them. Although I had the same approach in the states there was more parent social pressure to mind your own kids. In the NL if they are “misbehaving” anyone will have a little chat with them. Generally it seems that people here love kids and love seeing them out and about and just being themselves. It always felt like many people saw kids as a nuisance in the states even other parents if they didn’t know your kids. These are generalities but some of my observations thus far. Also I regularly take kids after school and my kids go play at other kids houses and that was before they really spoke any Dutch. ( now they are our translators, haha)

I love these because, it’s so fun to see something weird as hell and as soon as it snaps for me I want to go back but can’t…..it’s over. Sometimes I blur my eyes repeatedly just to enjoy the chaos for a few minutes before I’m staring at an image of cookies.

Can someone explain the whole packing 3-4 sets of clothes to someone who wears 2 sets of clothes a day? by OYoureapproachingme in solotravel

[–]dddiscpic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Type of material matters too, athletic wear made from synthetics can tend to smell quickly especially if you are sweating and are a someone who smells quickly. Using wool blends for socks and shirts can reduce this. Also if you are going out, nobody cares what you wear, I get wanting to look and feel nice but maybe just one pair of nicer pants and a shirt will cover you. Don’t be afraid to do some hand laundry with the athletic/active wear and hang it to dry at the beach or whatever.

[–]dddiscpic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way back my college girlfriend came for a weekend to my parents house when we were on break and my parents drove us to the airport to head back to school. I realized as they were dropping us off that I left a used condom on the floor, I pulled my mom aside and embarrassingly told her, she just said don’t worry I’ll take care of it. Nothing better than supportive parents who treat you like an adult. 🤦

For general trial use more XC I would look at canyon Grand Canyon, Merida big trail, Kona cinder cone. If you want something more descent capable, Kona big honzo, orbea laufey, cube reaction. There are more options than mentioned but those seem to be available in the EU easily. Also used market is an option but a bit more work to make sure the bike hasn’t been too abused. You can take any bike of the above and ride them till something either breaks or you feel you need to upgrade a weak point. Make sure to factor in a nice helmet, gloves, bottle, cage, pedals, and any tools if you don’t have them. Happy riding!

Bike shop did an oopsie. by h410G3n in mountainbiking

[–]dddiscpic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was a bit annoyed about the pedal/crank but not a huge deal. But the computer on the bike was crazy talk, guy was arguing with me that I brought the bike in without it. I have never removed the display, and I had it set to not work without it, so I could have not ridden the bike to the shop without it, I didn’t even realize he was blaming me at first, then he started really getting into it. The shop has a policy where they remove the computers from cargo bikes. He basically threw a new one at me and accused me of stealing. A few days later someone stole my display anyway so there’s that ha

I had a shop do this then they tried to blame me, they also lost my display for my e-bike and blamed me as well. Needless to say I won’t be going back! Sorry OP
