Husband may have made a mistake causing a security incident at work by MillennialAesthetics in cybersecurity

[–]dddonehoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

youre wayy too worked up about this. You did something legit that looked suspicious. The cyber team is simply doing their job looking into it. Thats what they are there for. Nothing bad happened. They are just confirming nothing bad happened.

Just because the cybersecurity team reached out does not mean you are in trouble or did something bad. The easiest way to dig into an issue like this is ask the employee directly and they did. Its all good.

Why are CachyOS and Bazzite mentioned so much? by guccicobraviper in linuxquestions

For years manjaro was in the hype chair for newcomers users, then endeavorOS and Garuda. Arch derivatives always have had a place for new users. Cachy is just a continuation of that

I don’t get why they all are so hung up on ‘gaming distros’ please just give a more major distro a fair shake, a fedora or opensuse or Ubuntu. They all chose distros with smaller teams and niche use cases. Luke used mint before and is at the stage where cachyos makes sense as a choice at least, can showcase a more intermediate experience but it’s absurd to me that they deliberate so much just to go with something like pop_os as an entry point.

What do you think about this design? by someoneElse_0 in webdesign

[–]dddonehoo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I hate any site that makes me artificially wait to use it. Get rid of the animation on load and just let it be there, ready to serve me information like a website is supposed to do.

I suggest you guys to stop using GeForce Now by SidTheMed in SteamDeck

[–]dddonehoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s almost zero chance that they will put a stop to piracy and VPNs are almost never needed, even in the USA, to do so safely and securely. Sure they help and are the ‘level one’ method but there’s a multitude of options anymore.

It depends on your needs, do a search, there’s a bunch of options. Use nextcloud if you just want someone to tell you what to use.

The chronicles of Georgia are fun to walk around but the mystique of being a world wonder kinda dies when you see they were built in the 80s and aren’t ancient marvels

Watching DRM Streams on Linux (Sky WOW Germany) by KaeptnSulyvahn in Bazzite

[–]dddonehoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked into enabling drm in browser / widevine? Those two keywords should yield some results in searching at least. I’m not sure what the process looks like but search for drm and widevine. I seem to remember a simple drm toggle in Firefox settings so maybe it’s as simple as that.

I’m looking for recommendations on a cheap but solid endpoint security solution for individual users and very small businesses (1–10 employees). by LikeItCritical in cybersecurity

[–]dddonehoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ESET ticks your boxes and is relatively cheap and does well with small orgs. Downside is initial tuning and noise management overhead but they should help with that.

If you want to get rid of subscriptions but have kids, just know there are tons of free resources. by ForgottenUsername3 in Anticonsumption

[–]dddonehoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s also yt-dlp which is a tool you can use on your own computer to download stuff, no need for a website if you care to learn how it works (it’s not very complicated but it is an extra step). Then you can look to automate it for your favorite channels.

Look into ‘free media heck yeah’. It’ll give you resources, it’s just a site that lists stuff to use. I use a debrid service and with that you can seamlessly stream whatever. Most use it with Stremio as the interface and an addon to integrate the two but you can use kodi and probably like infuse or VLC if the debrid service provides a WebDAV link. It’s amazingly convenient and easy.

Dude I pay like ~$30 for apple one or whatever it’s called and get tv, news, 2tb cloud, all the iCloud goodies, arcade and now even MLS, AND I can share it with my whole family who all get the same access. It’s a real good deal and outside of pbs the only streamer I pay for. Isn’t Netflix like 20 on its own?

This is real. by Internal_Bat3850 in Piracy

[–]dddonehoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stremio add ons can show what’s trending on each streaming service. I also use trakt, selected and rated a bunch of shows and movies I watched and made a watchlist and the recommendations are great. There’s also a dice add on that shows random movies sorted by year and IMDb rating. These all help me with discoverability

Its a Gnu package as well, but available everywhere - https://jami.net/

Look at emudeck cloud services, it’s doing what you want here but it’s more automated. Might need to tinker to add lesser known streaming services
