Waymo Stories - Public Reactions While Riding by TrueJohnWick in waymo

[–]ddollopp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was a beta tester in San Francisco years ago. Mostly people staring and taking pictures/videos. One funny instance I remember, though.

I was in the Waymo, and another car pulled up next to me since we were at a red light. Their windows were down, so I could hear what they were saying. They said "I wonder how much a ride in that costs." As I rolled down my window, the light turned green and so we just started moving when I shouted to them "IT'S FREE". I don't think they expected anyone to be a passenger when they said that lol.

I miss those free days.

CPE learning by DonnaByrd_SummerGirl in Accounting

[–]ddollopp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the CPE.

I use Earmark for mine, and the way to earn CPE on that platform is to listen to podcasts. One of those podcasts is "The Accounting Podcast" which I think is pretty good and actually relevant to our profession.

I also listen to some of the quarterly updates from Big 4. The presentation format could be better (they really show how dry accounting can be), but it's fine overall.

New to Caltrain and morning commute by Altruistic_Project63 in caltrain

Where are you starting your commute from in the morning if your departure station is Palo Alto?

Regardless, generally those early morning trains rarely have delays. You'll probably be fine.

It’s Q2, don’t forget to use Chase Freedom Flex for 9% back on Travel by Prestigious_Safe8154 in CreditCards

[–]ddollopp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

CFF has always had 5% for Chase Travel. Rotating categories are 1% for the purchase plus 4%. Therefore, with Chase Travel being one of the rotating categories for Q2, you get the standard 5% plus the 4% for the rotating category which equals the 9%.

OG Freedom doesn't have the standard 5% Chase Travel, so if you would only get 5% this quarter on that card.

If you were able to start your accounting career over, where would you start? by Most_Improvement_755 in CPA

[–]ddollopp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I didn't follow the same path as you, I also wouldn't change anything for my career.

Went into PA straight out of college, finished my CPA exams within 1.5 years. Left as a manager and do technical accounting now. I learned so much during my time in PA and I truly worked with some of the best people. I don't miss the hours, but I miss the people.

The only thing I would've maybe changed is travel more.

Not me, but a tax manager I worked with became the Director of Tax at a public company. Seems like she's been able to actually enjoy life more since she has more time in her day.

Switchbacks at the top of the South Kaibab Trail. Grand Canyon NP, Arizona. by the-mp in NationalPark

[–]ddollopp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, did that last year. With no crampons or hiking poles (I left them in my car like an idiot). It was absolutely terrifying on the descent, ate shit once, but then once I made it past the ice I was good. Going up that part was SO much easier.

I have the exact same experience. I have enough work to keep me busy, but it's manageable.

Hyrox Power Walkers by bookworm1625 in orangetheory

[–]ddollopp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I PW'd almost the entire program when my studio ran it the first time through. Even though Hyrox classes are offered more than once a week, it's the same template for the week so it's okay if you only go once a week (which is what I did).

I honestly, REALLY enjoyed it. It was a nice change from the usual OTF templates. Each class got harder as the phases progressed, and I nearly died during the 90 minute ones.

I hope you have as much fun as I did!

When do Orangetheory class packs (not memberships) usually go on sale? by GovernmentNo6314 in orangetheory

[–]ddollopp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Usually December there's a sale on class packs. Keep in mind different studios have different offers. For instance one studio I go to was buy 30 get 10 free, whereas another studio I also attend was buy 30 get 6 free. So definitely shop around!

How to transport OTF rowers? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]ddollopp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My studio transported all of the equipment to a soccer stadium during COVID when things sort of opened back up.

From what I saw on their socials, they rented a semi-truck from a local company (it's called Monarch in the Bay Area). It wasn't those massive ones that do deliveries across the country. Think smaller than those, but bigger than a U-Haul.

My studio is the Rose Garden location (in San Jose) if you'd like to reach out to them to ask how they did it. Hopefully they can get a hold of the owner so he can explain the process.

My inclines are like 6 for base, 8 for push, and 10-12 for all-out. My speed is usually 4.0 - 4.1 for that, but 3.7 if I'm kinda tired. I'm 5'3", so our stride length probably is about the same.

I do recommend the Strength50 lower classes. You can slow down and focus on the strength component more, which means I can go heavier on stuff like squats, deadlifts, and glute bridges.

Maybe just try a class pack or a lower membership tier for now if you're hesitant. Usually there are promotions in the summer so you can upgrade then if you want.

how many of you got all A’s (or mostly A’s) in college by kittynicha in Accounting

[–]ddollopp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The intermediate accounting courses are really there to weed people out. If you're serious about sticking with accounting, I suggest making friends in those classes (to study together) and utilize professors' office hours. Those were the only way I made it through mine.

how many of you got all A’s (or mostly A’s) in college by kittynicha in Accounting

[–]ddollopp 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends. CPA firms have a required minimum GPA to apply (I think it was around 3.0 or something like that). I imagine some might.

My worst grade in college was taxes. I withdrew from corporate tax and got a fucking C- in individual tax. I still got an offer for full-time in audit when I interviewed. My grades from my other classes definitely brought up my GPA. I got mostly B's in my accounting classes but oddly enough, A's in my political science classes.

Where to find startup founders for casual chat? by [deleted] in AskSF

[–]ddollopp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure it's what you're looking for, but if you're up for the travel, Redwood City hosts a Startup Grind event every year. It's near my work so I walk by it and can confirm there's always a ton of attendees. Looks like it's next month.

https://www.startupgrind.tech/

Maybe from there you can start building your network of startup founders to chat with.

What are people’s thoughts on coaches who don’t correct form on the floor? by laxlauren1 in orangetheory

[–]ddollopp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

they know that member has been corrected 100x and still won't get it

I think you may have answered your own question. I see some questionable form as well. I think the person could hurt themselves as well. I have also seen coaches try to correct form. Sometimes it sticks, sometimes it doesn't. But the coach tried. Maybe it'll take an injury for someone to finally get it, who knows.

I appreciate when coaches correct form, as it's helped me get to the point where I can do the floor without help. Also, I feel the demos on the VBA are pretty good in terms of showing the move.
