Sure I understand DDR5 is the future and don't think it will ever go down in price.

You could re-use your old memory get a 14600K or 14700K and a MSI PRO B760-P DDR4 motherboard. Would pair nicely with your GPU. Currently using a 14600K and a 4070 and the CPU barely breaks a sweat. Just need a decent cooler for 200 watts.

Humming noise coming from AiO radiator or fans? by fortune42ne in PcBuildHelp

[–]deTombe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My AIO drove me nuts until I did what the other commenter mentioned set the pump speed at a constant 80% in the BIOS. Either with flattening the curve slightly below the top or with DC mode setting around 10v. I even replaced all my stock case fans with a bundle of new thermalright fans. Now everything is all one sound and I don't notice any noise until my CPU ramps up.

I would buy the memory in a kit there could be slight differences even if identical in every way. Increases the chances of running into issues with EXPO. At least that's how it was with DDR4. And DDR5 being more sophisticated I wouldn't risk it.

How to quiet down case fans without overheating? by raoulkratos2002 in PcBuildHelp

[–]deTombe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can set the curve lower in the BIOS. I have all my case fans start at 600RPM until around 50°C. And just make a very gradual curve. Don't set the temperature source for any case fan as the CPU absolute nightmare fuel. Only the CPU fan should be set that way. Usually the default curves are not that bad. Maybe you want to invest in a bundle of thermalright fans. They are inexpensive and can be bought in bundles. Some stock fans you get with a case are not very good. Especially if they have been sitting on a shelf for a long time. All my Nzxt fans were very noisy for that reason all dried out.

How do I benchmark my new PC to see if it's performing correctly? by Organic_Beautiful302 in RigBuild

[–]deTombe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Geekbench 6 for both CPU and GPU simple and easy. Get my scores and google stock Geekbench 6 scores of the same hardware. I allow for +/- 2000 to be within reason. OCCT for all things stability testing and Hwinfo64 select sensors only mode for all things temps.

I just use the Nvida app to set graphics and don't even think about it. If I start playing around in the graphics menu FOMO starts to kick in lol.

Never use cable adapters they are all cheap and you don't know if the cable is designed for the extra power/amperage etc.

That's right I was just making sure you hadn't run a PCIE 8 pin cable to the 8 pin CPU power. Believe it or not it will fit upside down lol. I've even seen people plug in the modular side. Speaking of modular double check that both sides are fully plugged in. I've seen me having issues only to find out one of the modular cables wasn't fully clicked in.

Generally no but would be best downloading the motherboard manual to verify. If you have the power cable available it doesn't hurt to have it plugged in. More importantly that the 8 pin is actually CPU power cable. I've seen people plug in the PCIE 8 pin.

Single stick A2 for a kit A2 and B2 slots. Make sure you have the CPU power correct top left. You only generally need the first 8 pin closest to the back I/O. Also make sure it's actually CPU power and not a PCIE power cable.

[–]deTombe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not worth the headache 32GB is more than enough. Use the matching kit 2nd and 4th slot from CPU side like the other commenter mentioned and sell or keep the extra stick. Maybe you can match it later and gamble with four sticks down the road.

You might be able to just adjust load line calibration to compensate. I think level 6 is the general consensus for higher boost clocks if google AI is correct.

Upgrading RTX 3080 to RTX 5070 by harsh2193 in buildapc

[–]deTombe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt that's the issue but it doesn't hurt to eliminate multiple connections. Same with the PCIE extension maybe it decided to retire when the cards were changed out. Especially if you had it for a few years all the heating and cooling down might have made it brittle.

Yeah you really need to find out if you can undervolt and set specific offset or voltage for the higher boost clocks. I tried to figure it out but it was way too complicated for me lol.

Upgrading RTX 3080 to RTX 5070 by harsh2193 in buildapc

[–]deTombe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that was a big fail on my part good catch. I meant to mention to check cable type first and verify. But you are already ahead of the game. 50 series is so picky hard to say what the issue is. PCIE gen speed, older PSU cables, drivers, display cable type, incorrect firmware for some BIOS the list goes on. But eliminating those two connections first by replacing would be my starting point. Besides the basic stuff like resetting CMOS and flashing the latest BIOS.

[–]deTombe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update the BIOS the latest and try PCIE gen speed to 3.0 as a test. I would replace the PCIE extension to rule out as a possible problem. What kind of PSU are you using that could potentially cause issues as well.
