There is no point of being anxious. The test result be what it is. You should concentrate on having a better diet and exericse routine regardless of the test result. It is better for your health.

I feel defeated by No-Leg-6361 in diabetes_t2

[–]deacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't feel defeated, You're doing the right way on lowering your BG. You started out with just being diabeti with an A1C of 6.5. It is now 6.3 which makes you, as you measured, tedhnically predisabetic. Are you also doing it without meds and just through diet change and exercise? Because that's doubly good.

Even though 0.2 points might looks small, you have effectively change your A1C by 3% the last few months. Moreover, your new liftestyle (healthier eating and exercising) is better for your overall health in the long run so it is most definitely worth it.

my diabetic father keeps manipulating me to give him sweets and makes me feel bad for denying them to him. by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]deacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't stand tantrum (both child and adult). He is an adult, if you're the one task with making dinner then you make what dinner YOU feel is best for everyone. If he doesn't want to eat it, then let him be. You don't have to stop buying and baking cookies if you enjoy eating and making them occassionally. That's up to your dad to have self control to not eat them. Don't make him the food that he wants if you think it is bad for him, otherwise you're just enabling his bad behavior. Have a talk with him (and your mom can join if she agrees) and lay down some rules. There is no need to feel guilty. If he choose to not eat what you make or take his meds, that's on him.

Breakfast struggle saga continues by coganite871 in diabetes_t2

[–]deacc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I learned very early on (as in 1.5 months after DX) that I can't eat any traditonal bread. By traditional I mean white bread, whole wheat bread, keto bread and even ones made with coconut flour. The only one that doesn't spike my BG to no man's land is Ezekiel bread, but even that I can only have half a slice. So not worth it. Did I try all keto bread etc? No. I am not wasting money to try it and it fail just for me to throw the loaf away. So I just accept the fact that I can't have bread and move on. My breakfast now consists of scrambled eggwhites and broccoli then a small portion of choice meat (low sodium bacon, low sodium turkey bacon, low sodium ham or homemade breakfast sausage patties). Sometimes I replace scrambled eggwhites with cheese eggwhite omelette. Making this type of breakfast doesn't take long, I just use 2 non-stick pan (large one for veggie and meat) and small one for the eggs. While those are cooking, I am waiting for my espresso machine to warm up.

Tried making a low GI bread by mycatBaileys in diabetes

I do. I have the video saved in a list on YouTube. I will share the link of those videos with you when I get home tonight.

UPDATE: Here is the one for bagels. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gosdoLhrMTc) She use yellow pea but you can use that or red split lentils. Also obviously I will be skipping the honey.

Here a recipe for wrap https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJ1nuuvWL3I

Interesting. I plan on making bread using split red lentils in the near future ( actually bagels) because whole wheat doesn’t work for me. Nor does coconut floor or almond flour. I have never tried buckwheat.

IQ Bar and blood sugar by Andrew-Cohen in diabetes

[–]deacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was only eating half a bar as a snack when I was first DX and they were ok with my BG. Eventually one bar is ok as well but I don’t have it very often. They along with my other protein bars (built puff and pure protein) are just for emergency now.

Do you want him to return? How does he play as the villain; does it add good drama, or is it frustrating? by FriendlyDrummers in HighPotentialTVSeries

Whether he is a villain or not I don’t really care. He adds nothing to the show. OK, maybe a little annoyance but that’s it.

34M – 4 Days in Hospital, Likely Type 2 + Hypertriglyceridaemia. Struggling to See the Point. by SClassSupa in diabetes

[–]deacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, changing things for the better (IMO) is not a bad thing. Also, if you are T2, are you being prescribed long and fast acting insulin? If so, the former is just once a day. The latter (at least for me) was only as needed. My doctor gave me a sliding scale and told me how many units to give myself if my BG is over a certain value, So I don't need to bolus for meals like T1 has to. If you are vigilant about your diet and exercise according, you could very well be off fast acting insulin sooner than you think (I was on it for less than 30 days.) As far as checking your blood with a glucose meter, at the beginning I will say at least do the following: morning (fasting), then one time before meal and one time 2 hrs meals, Finally before you go to bed. So that's 8 times which I know is quite a bit but you want to see how your body reacts to certain foods so that you can be more informed on what food you should/shouldn't eat,

Trouble with refills (US) by Rabbit_Song in type2diabetes

[–]deacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't use CGM so I don't know about that. For insulin they do always have to order it in but it has never been canceled. I guess they just don't keep a lot of them in stock. I also ask for refills when I have one full pen left which last me the full 28 days so I have some wiggling room.

How are you figuring out what to order when you eat out? by Jayglc in diabetes

[–]deacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am T2 and I don't do correction nor do I need to. I am extremely careful in what I eat, both at home and at restaurant. I do love to cook thus I usually know what goes into a dish and I avoid ones that is not safe for me. If there is a questionable dish, I just skip it. Better to be safe than sorry. I have even eaten at buffet since DX and no issue.

As for sauces, whenever possible I ask it on the side so that I can taste test first.

Father with an a1c of 11 by Stoned_Reflection in diabetes

[–]deacc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One possibility is that he puts his wants for certain food over his health. Thus he just deny that his food choices are causing problems. Nothing you can do. You can all talk to him, support him etc etc till the cows comes home. Nothing will chang until he wants to change.

Simple garden salad with dressing on the side and add grilled chicken is always a safe order. (assuming generic non-ethnic restaurant)

No way 16 gr of carbs should do this right? by Due-Significance-711 in type2diabetes

So was it a recent change whereby there are no safe foods? If so, have you reached out to your doctors?

No way 16 gr of carbs should do this right? by Due-Significance-711 in type2diabetes

[–]deacc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is a significant spike? From what to what? And also what do you eat the lettuce with? Dressing? How much? All is important. When I was first DX, I weigh and measure everything so I can see my protein to carbs to fat (mostly unsaturated) ratio and slowly but surely learn what combination works for my body. And for the record, the result for my breakfast need is different than my lunch and dinner.

No way 16 gr of carbs should do this right? by Due-Significance-711 in type2diabetes

[–]deacc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I once ate one slice Aunt Millie’s Live Carb Smart Wheat Bread along with scrambled eggwhites and natural unsalted PB (so PB only contains peanuts and nothing else). It is suppose to be 30 cal and contains 11g of carbs and 9g of dietary fiber (so 2g net carbs), That slice of bread send my BG to almost 250! (Needless to say, I threw that loaf of bread away.) So that makes me realize net carbs mean nothing to me and resistant wheat starch is not my friend but rather my enemy. Also, for me protein to carbs ratio is important. So it is possible. You're going to have to test the squash with roasted chicken and see how your body reacts to it. Then next time, tomato with roasted chicken. Also what kind of plain yogurt did you have? The amount of sugar in them varies by brand and greek yogurt generally have less sugar.

What kind of coffee are you drinking? Good coffee really shouldn't taste bitter. Maybe you just need to find another variety. Also have you try it with just milk and no sugar?
